History
Established in 1941.
Billings Paint Company was founded by my Grandfather, Harry E Billings. The store was staffed by himself, and his three sons, Guy, Fred, and Jim Billings. Harry Billings active in local civic activities was also the head of the draft board. Soon after opening the store he faced the daunting task of enforcing the draft of WWII. Harry made local headlines when his first draft was his 1st eligible own son Fred. Harry was quoted as saying, «If I can send your child to war, I surely can send mine too» My father, Jim, beat his draft by enlisting in the Navy at age 17. Billings Paint Company continued almost unchanged for almost 4 decades. Then in 1976, Fred & Jim saw the opportunity to expand into Hardware and the store moved down the street. At this point Billings Paint & Hardware became the heart of Belmont Shore. Today we continued to adapt to our diverse neighborhood as we strive to offer great service and selection in your small town hardware store. Doug Billings, Owner

Business Owner
Doug Billings literally learned to walk in his families Hardware Store. «I remember as a child building forts with gallon paint cans and hiding out in the attic» «My first jobs were sweeping floors and filling cans of paint thinner from a hand cranked pump»
At age 22 his direction strayed from becoming a Marine scientist to taking over the family business.
The science did not stay away long, as this soon became his hobby instead, particular the field of Speleology and Cave Exploration. Claiming to be very lucky to get to work worked with the likes of many renowned organizations such as NASA, Belize institute of Archeology and the National Park Service. Work from his projects often ends up in our local classrooms and some kids get to experience it first hand as he volunteers to take kids on cave adventure trips.
Look for his cave pictures on the back office wall.
