Circle of Concern Thrift Store

I found some decent children’s clothing for very cheap, however unfortunately they use staples to put the price tags on the clothing, and actually double (sometimes triple) staple them. Needless to say they’re super hard to get out and actually damaged a couple of the shirts I purchased. Invest in a tagging gun people! Nobody wants to pick a million staples out of their clothing!

Saw three dresses by same manufacturer wanted to buy all three 1 had no price other 2 did .I was in store on Tuesday saw the dress for 14 $ today they wanted to sell it 19 $ needless to say I bought nothing, please dont treat your customers unfair, I could have taken it personal, or a race thing but I understand what kind of people work there oh yes speaking English would help everyone feel better !

I really enjoy this thrift store, clean and organized. Staff very helpful and it’s always a guarantee you will find a treasure at a decent price.

Cool spot, decent clothing selection. Lots of footwear and cool shades. Rayban and Ellen Tracy. Retro styles! On this trip I scored a lace maxi dress and a pair of platform sneakers. Hate there is tax on clothing tho-​booo!

They eventually called back and picked up my donated items so I’m updating this review.

Beware they don’t do pick-​ups in Long Beach. I tried to schedule one and the lady was rude about it.

So if this is a NONPROFIT why do they charge sales tax and on top of that add a 10% surcharge on all items??? The little letter posted on the front door says the surcharge is to keep lower prices. This is very deceptive business practice. Plus most stores you can barter for a lower price, not this store… don’t ask, and they get snipitiy with you, and laugh about the tax and surcharge. The only reason I asked was because the item has sat in the store for a few weeks, so I thought what da heck make an offer. That’s when I was told about the surcharge & tax, and I should’ve look a the memo in the front window.
I then asked if this was a Nonprofit store, and the man said it was none of my business. Please people, shop where it is truly a nonprofit and the money really is going to a great cause.
This place is very sneaky the way they do business… come on you can put the correct prices on items if your inventory sells.

This thrift shop is a hit and miss for me. They have a great selection on clothes. Although this is common, I don’t understand the need to color coordinate clothes instead of organizing it by size because it gets really frustrating when you find an item you like and it’s not your size. They always have little cool knick knacks and they have this Minolta film camera with interchangeable lens on display for a few weeks now but instead of placing it in their glass case, they have it sitting out and sadly, have other things piled on top of it. Not a fan of their surcharge (my total today was $ 9.63 plus surcharge of $ 0.96 plus tax $ 0.95) but I come back often because it’s convenient.

Kind of dirty but some good stuff.

This review is for Circle of Concern donation pick up (not the Thrift Store in LB). We are recently married and have been getting rid of a ton of stuff, after receiving a flyer on our door for Circle of Concern, we thought we’d donate to them. We made an appointment for a donation pick up this past Saturday 9÷22÷12. The person scheduling the pick up said they will be at our house between the hours of 8am and 3pm. We waited all day for them to arrive, even staying around til 4pm thinking they might be behind schedule… THEY NEVER SHOWED! Here is a breakdown of what happened… We made a pile with our donations in the garage, when it became 2pm, I called back the pick up number to make sure they were still coming but they are not open on the weekends. Called the Thrift Store hoping someone would have a contact phone number for the person doing the pick up, the guy at the thrift store spoke little English and said they do not do pick ups, we have to drop off in the back. Called the office in San Clemente and went to voicemail, the message on the voicemail stated not to leave a message regarding donations, to call the pick up number we originally called. After no one showing, we piled everything in our truck (minus the TV/​Stand/​heavy items since I recently had surgery and could not help lift them) and dropped off everything at a local Goodwill. Called the pick up number today and asked why they never showed, she said she got our street name wrong, I told her I spelled it out at the time of pick up (she said she took the pick up request) and asked why no one could have called us! She said no, they don’t do that! I asked her if someone can come out this week and she said no, only on Saturdays. WOW! here we are trying to donate to a good cause and they have awful customer service and horrible communication! Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time, donate somewhere else where people really care about getting donations! We will also make sure our community knows about our story so they won’t waste there time either! Truly hope this review helps you in your decision to donate and you decide to look elsewhere!

This store is really close to my home, so I walk over there a lot and browse. You have to scour the store and come a lot to find the deals, but it’s worth it in my case. I found two whole sets of crate and barrel dinnerware for an insanely low price there. They also have great children’s books. Some great clothes. I keep coming back. I think their biggest mistake is charging a 10% surcharge on everything. That’s frustrating. Plus, no dressing room. Pretty good store overall –it has potential.

While I used to love this place, the love is waning. For me, the joy is in finding THE treasure or treasures. I used find a lot of good stuff here and great prices. SUCH DEALS YAY! The reward of finding something great used to outway the surcharge they have (YES they have a surcharge) but not so much anyore. Unfortunately now, each time I go in, the prices get steeper and steeper and the thrill gets less and less.
I’ll still go every once in awhile now just to check in, but it’s just not as good anymore to me.
Check it out though. You never know … One man’s trash is another’s treasure.

The grab bags are a great deal if you have kids or someone young at heart like my close friend. who I always keep a lookout for Lego; superhero stuff. but other than that the price for furniture and close are reasonable but like many thrift store; musty and you need to search and have time on your hand.

It is a bit dirty and the upcharge is annoying. Several years ago, I could pick up some deals, but now they aren’t really competitive with the other thrifts or even the Wal-​Mart down the street.

It took awhile for me to like this place and I absolutely love coming here every couple of weeks to see what treasures they have to offer me. I always find at least one or more items when I come by. The only down fall about this place is that some of the employees seem to be a bit shady, but damn it’s not my fault you work here.

I love this thrift store! It’s my secret place where I like to get one of a kind pieces of clothing. I always leave this place with something in my hands, and I didn’t spend an arm and a leg for a pair of designer jeans. Sometimes I think they don’t know what they’re selling. The prices are usually always reasonable.

One of my least favorite thrift stores in Long Beach, and what a bummer it is so close to home. Like wouldn’t it be really neato if I lived next door to my favorite thrift store?
It is very hit or miss here, but that is not the problem. As Casey said, what the heck about the surcharges to purchase? If it is because it is too hard to update their tags to higher prices (that’s what the girl said when I asked) that’s just pathetic. I think it is just a sneaky little way of pinching more cash. I mean really, are you going to stand there and say no way when it is a charity thrift store?
I’ve found only a few good items here and that’s after many visits. It’s only a few blocks but I’ll drive farther for more fun in co-​co-​co-​compton or south street.

This place gets one star for the ridiculous 10% additional overcharge tacked on to your purchase. How can a place like this stays in business? Selection was very average with third rate donation bin clothing and a forgettable array of bric-​à-​brac. I would say it might be worth revisiting to see if they ever refresh the selection, but that 10% surcharge is just out of this world.

Yipes. This place is now ‘On Notice’ from me after being my preferred thrift destination for a few months. Their prices range from very cheap to a little above reasonable for a used dress (for example), but their selection is nothing really special and the really cheap items should be examined closely for breaks or tears, as the staff prices broken items for sale instead of throwing them out. No foul there. However, I recently got fed up with their ‘surcharge’, which is 15% of the total of your purchase. I thought it was ridiculous for a thrift store to charge almost twice what CA tax is. Their excuse is so ‘they don’t have to raise prices,’ but they’re not doing their customers any favors, they just want their prices to seem lower.
I found some pretty cool things there, but I find their surcharge sneaky and annoying when you’re trying to keep track of what you’ll be spending, so they’re no longer a scheduled stop for me.

So this review should be 3.5 stars, but we all know the drill.
What I like about this thrift store is that they had these grab bag dealies. The reason I like them is because I am in the midst of starting an eBay store and they always have cool things in the grab bags. Did I mention that the grab bags are like $@ and $ 3 bucks a piece?
This is also a place that I pick up books for the monkey boys. I have gotten books for 39 cents.
Keep in mind that this is a thrift store. It has that old musty smell that you all know and love. It is a bit grimy too, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
