Cookies by Design

Very unhappy when I ordered cookies to send to my Fiancé. First the order form said same day delivery, but when the calendar option came up it said next day available. Secondly, the message clearly stated I love you, and they send an Emoji cookie with a smiley face when they had many options to pick from. If I was a cookie decorator I would have thought outside the box to create a different emoji cookie which is listed in what is available. Lastly when I called to ask why they didn’t do this I was not well received with my complaint, and was told if I order again and I wanted specifics I should call. Online ordering should have options to pick which emoji but a smart decorated would think what would fit best with the message. Not satisfied at all, and will never use this service again. Especially paying $ 17.50 to have a hand delivery for same day which arrived the next day.

They did it again, how awesome is that! Love their designs and cookies! Thank you!
I ordered 24 cookies for my son’s 6^th birthday party, half iron man and half hulk. They look awesome and he is going to flip!

Went to this location this weekend and was very disappointed.
First off, I want to say that the girl who helped me was really nice and pleasant. So nothing against her.
I went here because years ago I use to work at a Cookies by Design and wanted to relive a bit of my high school days. I went in to just get a basic flat sugar cookie (which to my knowledge every where else is a staple) and they did not offer this. I was really put off by the fact that they had no ready to buy cookies in the front. But the girl assured me they had them in the back. Why would you not put your fresh cookies for the day in the front? It makes your display look really sad. She didn’t seem like the owner so this is not on her. I asked for 2 chocolate chips cookies and she rang me up and went to get them from the back. When she handed me the bag I could feel that the cookies were warm. I got in my car, drove about a block and took a bite of the cookie. The outside was warm but the inside was ice cold. Like they had not been made fresh and has just come out of the fridge only to get quickly toasted somehow. It was very unpleasant. Not what I was expecting. I paid $ 3 for 2 cookies that tasted not gourmet at all. More like a toll house cookie.
Definitely not the cookies by design way I remember. I will just make my own cookies from now on.

Read some bad things but I thought I’d give them the benefit of doubt… I do not recommend this place at all
I bought a birthday cookie cake for my manager and it looks so UGLY! the cake is sloppily made, no creativity on the message, very sad decorative touches… I gave them a few days as I called the order in advanced and there are gaps on the sheet and they just lazily filled in the gaps with frosting
The cake looks like no real effort or time was put into the cake and I spent just about the same as if I would’ve went to Mrs. Fields or something.

Cookies were good but I receive a few with icing melted and for the price they charged me for this arrangement it should have been delivered flawless… They offered me a replacement arrangement but really who needs more cookies when it was given as a gift… I asked for store credit on future purchases and have not heard back… Altogether I was a little disappointed because I felt for the money I didn’t receive the quality…

I placed an online order for a cookie bouquet for my bf’s birthday. I ordered the medium Puppy Love bouquet with 7 cookies and spent about $ 65 (I used the Aug15Off discount code).
And the reason why I am giving Cookies by Design 2 stars is because when the cookies were delivered to Newport Beach one cookie appeared to be broken. Luckily it wasnt. Plus the overall presentation did not look like the picture online. Im not sure what happened to my particular order during the delivery but Im not a satisfied customer. For the amount of money that I spent I expected my bf to get a nicely arranged cookie bouquet. That said Im not sure if I’ll place another order in the future.

Really disappointing experience. Placed an order for a baby girl bouquet. It was not delivered when it was supposed to be. I sent an email asking for a return phone call to find out what happened — no one called me back. I reached a person and she said it would go out right away. It took one week from when I placed order for it to arrive.
I paid an extra $ 8.99 for a white wooden container. When the recipient emailed me a photo of the bouquet, two cookies were off the sticks and the container was an ugly plain brown. When I wrote back to tell them I paid extra for the wooden boardwalk container, she said, «Our assembler made the call to use the natural wooden container. We thought it looked great. Sorry you didn’t like our choice.» Really? So it does’t matter what I like — what I specifically requested — or paid extra to have???
She did refund my $ 25 shipping fee, which I appreciate, but overall it was a bad experience. Would not use again. They are disorganized and make excuses. Super unprofessional.

I bought some cookies for co-​teachers as a thank you. I got there first thing in the morning and the cookies were still warm from the oven. Yum! I received rave reviews especially about the «Millionaire «cookie. I found the owner to be super helpful and very pleasant. This is a darling little shop and lots of great ideas are on display.

I placed an order to cheer up a friend who just found out her BF (of 9 years) was cheating on her. The cookies were never delivered and they are refusing to provide a full refund.
When I inquired about the delivery, they said their delivery man left it with the leasing office. When I asked for them to provide the name of the person in the leasing office he left it with, the story changed that the cookies were left at the doorstep. When I asked for an approximate time in which the cookies were left (because there is a security camera), they story changed for a second time and said that someone in the building let the delivery many in and they left the cookies in front of my friend’s apt door.
When I asked them why they would just leave the cookies without calling me first to confirm that it was ok to leave the cookies there, they said they called «numerous times and even left a voicemail.» I never received a phone call or a voicemail.
I was hoping to resolve this by requesting a refund for my order, but they are claiming that I cannot get a full refund because their delivery man has already been paid. Not sure why it is the fault of the customer if their delivery man is dishonest.
Bottom line is – this company is disorganized and dishonest. I will leave this review up on Unilocal until I receive proof (via a phone bill) that shows that the delivery man actually did call my phone and leave a voicemessage.

Horrible unorganized service, they messed up my order and lost my order! I placed an order on Friday and called me Saturday to ensure me it was there mistake and that they were refunding me and that they were still going to ship my order free of charge.
I was so please at how helpful they were I ordered another item that same day.
I call Tuesday to follow up get this! They lost my item again! And she told me they would not sent it bc it never got processed and was lost!
This place is so unorganized I will never order from them again. And to think I was about to place another order thank goodness I dodged another head ache haha

I ordered some of these cookies for Valentines to be sent to my boyfriend’s work place since I thought flowers would be too cheesy as well as what is a man going to do with flowers… haha It was somewhat a last minute thought honestly — since I forgot there were such a thing as cookie bouquets — however I still got my order in — though the unfortunate thing was they weren’t able to deliver it since his work was way too far and I was kind of late with ordering them.
I decided to order them online anyways and went to pick it up myself. I like the options that they have on their site — however I must say it’s the most expensive cookies I have ever bought. I got something called the Boutray — I got four medium sized sugar cookies and each had a design — one was «toadolly yours», on another cookie was a picture of a toad and two heart cookies with one that said Happy Valentines Day and a dozen of their mixed gourmet cookies with nuts.
It wasn’t really what I expected when I went to pick them up — it didn’t look like it was worth my $ 60…in addition I had to buy 6 more cookies there to fill the platter to make it look better (I checked in with Unilocal and they gave me two extra after buying 6).I think I should have gone with the basket cause the platter was bigger than I expected and didn’t look as nice since there were empty space on the platter.
So in total I paid about 70 dollars plus I had to drive there and drive about 45 minutes to deliver it myself — without my boyfriend finding out. so hopefully he doesn’t read this review. hah I don’t blame them for that though — cause that’s just my fault for being late on ordering… if I had ordered it a day earlier the lady at the shop said they could have delivered it.
Anyways I did have a cookie — a white chocolate macademia cookie to be exact. and it was good but still pretty darn expensive and well I don’t think I would do it again because it was just a little too expensive for cookies. Though I must say the sugar cookies were cutely designed.
The service was actually nice too — the lady that helped me with the pick up was friendly and said they use to have ones in LA but they all closed down — which I can kind of guess why. It’s really hard to want to pay $ 30 – 50 dollars for just cookies.

I ordered a custom cookie bouquet for Valentine’s Day with a Star Wars theme and they did a fantastic job on the cookies! I searched far and wide for bakeries that sold any type of Star Wars related themed cookies and with the exception of Etsy and some out of state places, I thought it was nearly impossible until I came across this place on Google. It didn’t sound like they had ever done this design before but the finished product when it was delivered looked amazing! The employees were so nice and helpful throughout the whole process. I even mailed them a card to attach with the cookie bouquet and they took care of everything. I would highly recommended them for your custom cookie needs.

I needed a custom cookie bouquet for my daughter. I wanted a girl hiker with mountains and a tent. The person taking my order said, «No Problem» and the cookie artist did the greatest work! IT WAS PERFECT! I was thrilled with how it turned out and my daughter loved it! Thank you so very much!

I had heard great things about this place and I stopped by today at 4:15 pm. There wasn’t a closed sign posted and so I walked in to be greeted by an incredibly rude woman who let me know they closed at 4 pm. When I tried to ask a question about ordering she told me to look them up on-​line. I think I will pass because if you were really closed the door should have been locked.

Ordered a Valentine’s day bouquet for my husband one day before Valentine’s day. They delivered my order right on time as promised. My husband loved the cookies. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Will definitely order from this place again.

We were eating lunch at Café Lorel and while walking out to our car noticed Cookies by design. My daughter and I have a hard time passing up cookies so we went inside. Yummy. We ordered what they call the millionaire. This cookie was amazing. Chocolate chips, pecan and oats in a yummy cookie. Delicious. We also tried a peanut butter cookie and an white chocolate macadamia cookie. All of them were Delicious and recommenced. We are definite fans now. They also have cookie baskets, cookie bouquets and plenty of gift box ideas and displays. This was so good… part of me wishes that I didn’t check it out! I cannot wait to go back!

I just got a couple of 16 inch cookie cakes and a cookie basket… and they look INCREDIBLE!!! Thank you, Rene! :) This was my 1^st time here (since it is so far from where I live, however… I WILL BE BACK!!! ;-) Rene and staff are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and each time I called… it must of been about 4 times-​for this one order, LOL ;) They were SO SWEET, INFORMATIVE and GREAT in EVERY WAY! Which is wonderful — being that I usually HATE talking on the phone! ;P Especially in these types of situations… However, I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED at how WONDERFUL the staff was and I believe I spoke to 3 or 4 different ladies and they all were so sweet that for that alone I would drive the distance… Yes, customer service is EVERYTHING to me ;) ;) ;) Only thing is that it’s a lil difficult to find the place, if you aren’t familiar with the area. I don’t ever go to long beach, and I got there at night, so it was a lil challenging to find it ~ FOR ME… Don’t know if others would have the same problem though, because I was super tired from the traffic, plus more… but other than that… A+++ ALL THE WAY! ;) I definitely recommend!!!

I honestly haven’t had Cookies By Design in years, not since high school when a classmate broken some in from work. She never did tell me the secret though, booo. I bought a deal off of groupon. I had initially wanted to order it and have it delivered to friend in SD but since they are unable to deliver it down there I decided to keep it for myself. I understand that a deal is a deal but I will they allowed the customer to purchase additional cookie or cookies for the basket. I wanted to add on ONE extra cookie and was willing to pay for any additional cost. However, the lady on the other end said no. Instead she suggested I not use the deal and place a different order. Say what??? Thanks for the lack of customer service.
I arrived at the store front or at least what I thought was the front which turned out to be the back. Turn right onto Anaheim St. Do not turn right onto North Greenbrier Road immediately after you turn onto East El Parque Street for this is the back of the store. Go further up just a bit and you will see the main entrance. The store will be on your right, more so towards the corner of the strip mall. TI arrived at the store about 15 minutes before it officially opened. I saw an employee in the front but I did not want to bother yet or seem DESPERATE for my cookies so I waited a bit before heading in. My cookies were packed and ready to go when I arrived. No waiting at all. To confirm my order she pulled the basket out of the bag and showed it to me and that was the end of it. I thanked her and rush to work. The customer service was far better on pick up day than the day I ordered the cookie basket.
The color was a bit off but that is expected since it will vary since the coloration was applied by hand. The only thing I did not like was the center of my sunflower. The application of the icing appeared to be rushed but I still ate it. I picked it up on a Friday morning but did not eat them until the following morning with my family. Everyone thought the cookie basket was amazing and they truly do travel well. A two hour car ride did not damage a thing. The sticks are 100% secure in the basket, so secure that it can be difficult to take remove them and not destroy the cookie itself. I personally ate about two okay maybe it was like 2−½ or 3. Because I ate so many I did notice a difference in moisture level between the cookies. My first cookie was drier than my second which in normal instances it should be the other way around since the second cookie was consumed first. But no, the first cookie, the leaf was dry but the sunflower with the funky center was moist. My third was the scarecrow, my fav. Super cute and yet so moist days later.

Ohhhh! How I LOVE this place so much!
The cookies can run a little expensive (Personally, I grab a pack of «second day» plain cookies for cheaper if I plan to pig out by myself), but these precious little jewels are so well worth the price via its beautiful and plentiful designs.
Customized into bouquets, or extra big «cookie pies», you can have these cookies plain, or have them decorated. Renee is mostly a hands on owner, and she really takes the time to talk to her customers and hear what they have to say regarding her cookies.
A must try! =]

Cookies By Design is GREAT for more reasons than one. Not only are the cookies delicious… but they are also committed to the community. Renee and her team have supported Cal State University Long Beach and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. on many countless occassions.
I’m personally addicted to their millionaire and snickerdoodle cookies! YUUUUUUM!!!
