The Daily Grind Espresso

They re-​opened a while ago. This is my go-​to place for drive thru breakfast and a great cup of coffee. Love their iced coffee and their hot vanilla lattes. Lots of room to park in the back in case there’s a line. They also have a rewards card for their loyal patrons. Great local spot for good coffee on the go!

Update time! The Daily Grind has been sold back to the original owners and is now the Original Grind (at leas the location on 7^th and PCH) and I have to say that so far I’m a bit bummed! I’m not even a huge coffee drinker, but I use to go here at least once a week — mostly because I love the staff and how easy it is. But since the change in ownership, which I believe happened the beginning of May, I’ve been let down each time I’ve driven through. Twice my order has been wrong, but the one time I had time to say something and wait, they made me a new one free of change and let me keep the wrong one. And all of my favorite staff is gone. I don’t know if they were fired or just left during the change over… but so far the new staff really hasn’t impressed me and I think they changed the way they make their blended mocha… it is different, not bad, just different. I think out of all the coffee places I visited during my week-​long stint in the LA area, The Daily Grind had my favorite White Chocolate Mocha, not too sweet or strong, and did not need any extra things added to it.
They also have an awesome apple fritter! Their maple donut stick was okay. I thought it was an éclair, but nope. There is no filling inside it.

Funky little coffee and donut shop near CSULB. I stopped here on the way to watch my friend compete in a Crossfit competition and really liked it!
I got a café au lait with sugar free vanilla. The coffee was great, my only complaint was that they didn’t put any foam on it, which is normally my favorite part of a café au lait.
I also got a lemon poppyseed muffin that was HUGE. The lemon flavor was subtle and not too sweet. Of course, the fact that it was FREE (they have a check-​in offer) made it taste all the better.
Side note, you will never feel fatter than when you are chowing down on a giant muffin while watching a Crossfit completition…
I’d come here again when in the area.

The Daily Grind is every java lovers dream come true. The coffee, mocha & lattes are superb, surpassing those at Starbucks and Coffee Bean. Plus the best part is there are not one but TWO drive through windows where you can place your order. There’s never a line when I go and the girls who work there are so friendly and sweet. When I’m not pressed for time, I go inside to catch up on the local Long Beach publications that the Daily Grind always has stocked up for their customers — The Beachcomber, Gazettes, Long Beach Post, etc. To top all this off, check in on Unilocal and get a free pastry. That’s a pastry and a large triple shot vanilla latte for $ 4.85. That’s what I call a deal!

We came to this place expecting passable coffee and maybe a pastry, just to get you through the morning after a night at the adjacent Motel 6. We were greeted by an Attractive, friendly staff, who served us excellent coffee and tea nearly on par with places like Starbucks. It was a bit slow, and my friend’s americano was a tad hot, but these things are forgivable. If you happen to be in the area and want a nice, cheap coffee, give them a go.

I drive by every day on my way to work and I always said if I ever hit a red light at the intersection where where the Daily Grind sits, then I will finally pull in and try it. Hit the red light today. …OK fine, I really needed caffeine and was running super late already so I just drove reallllllllly slow on the block before DG. Whatever, I timed that shit right on.
The Daily Grind is drive-​thru only… one on each side of the building (the building has a giant donut on the top; you can’t miss it… although it now looks like a giant bagel because the sun has faded out all the frosting).
I ordered a medium sugar-​free vanilla soy latte (they don’t have almond milk but they use really good soy milk) and my total was $ 4.25, pricey, but that’s what we’re paying now-​a-​days. The service was just as fast as a drive-​thru Starbucks and I liked the latte quite a bit more than I like Starbuck’s version of the same, the syrup they use here doesn’t have the artificial taste as much as others (including Starbucks), and I was not expecting to like it as much as I did.
I would definitely drive back through here again red light or not. The menu mimics most other coffee house menus with the addition of some smoothies, a «fit» menu and acai bowls! Will def be ordering one of those next time when I purposely miss breakfast.
Check this place out if you’re on 7^th heading towards the freeway, I like it more than I have liked a lot of other schmancy coffee places in Long Beach (see my bratty reviews).
Side note: their paper cups are the Louis Vuitton of paper cups. Seriously, graphic design-​wise, they are fucking gorgeous. Like I want to keep it. All black cup with bold white print, SOOOOO chic.

I pass by this place all the time and finally decided to stop in before I headed to school this morning. This place has two drive thru windows and a small sitting area inside. After some contemplation I decided to head inside so I could review some readings for school while I sip on something to drink.
As I checked in I was pleased to see that they offer a free pastry with check-​in, SCORE! So I ordered a small non-​fat white chocolate mocha and got a donut and sat down. The white mocha was ok, not too sweet like Starbucks and the donut was just ok. The thing that turned me off about this place is the snooty girls that work there.
Obviously they knew I was a Unilocaler by my check-​in offer being redeemed but they proceeded to talk about people being Unilocalers. I didn’t seem to mind but as more customers came and went I could hear them talking about all their customers in a very negative manner. That totally turned me off so I packed my stuff and left. I won’t be returning to this establishment anymore.

I dislike Chai tea latte on principle because every time I have made one it has sucked. I assure you it’s the recipe (not I) that is doing the sucking.
Pluses!
+ Chai tea latte: DELICIOUS! It even smells like it would taste good! (It’s true) Smells like a lot of cream and brown sugar. I’ve had two cups of elsewhere coffee that didn’t wake me up and I really badly needed to pee but I am still happily sipping on this drink. (⁷⁄₅)

+ Staff: lovely, quick, efficient people. They are like sunshine. Two drive-​thrus with cars and I still got my order done in two minutes. (⁶⁄₅)
Minuses!
— Sunshine bran muffin: Nothing sunshine about this bran. The lady assisting me told me this was her favorite pastry so I was expecting great things. I shared with my dad who said this tasted like ammonia/​urea and it is true. I spent too long trying to eat it and fruit flies started congregating. Really annoying. Otherwise it looks healthy. (−2÷5)
— No bathroom! I didn’t ask if I could use their employee bathroom so it is partially my fault. Consequently this isn’t a place to sip coffee and loiter; when you need to go to the bathroom, you have to go home. (⁴⁄₅)
— You would think a fat pink donut sign would stand out but you’ll miss it if you’re not looking for it. I wasn’t looking for it. I assumed it would be this neon pink obstacle screaming «COME HERE AND EAT ME!», but it’s really not that noticeable. It’s not! (³⁄₅)
Would come again to try different coffees but count me out on the pastries.

This is my favorite coffee shop. EVER.

I come through the drive-​thru about 3 times a week! Service is always friendly and great.

It’s time to come back and revisit my review from last year. My wife has brought me back here on a few occasions and first off, the service has definitely improved. I haven’t seen Mr. Dragging Ass since my last review so he must have quit and maybe even fired. The ladies I’ve encountered have been fast and friendly which is a significant improvement.
I’ve tried a number of their coffee drinks and some of them are good, I’ll give them that. They know how to blend.
It’s still a crappy location, but I’ve learned that it is better to come in and out through Flint Ave rather than 7^th St. And it still needs a makeover, but if you stick with the drive thru, you don’t even notice.

A New Year’s Resolution of mine was to visit more local business, and, since I buy an iced latte practically every day, being a patron of coffee houses other than Starbucks and Coffee Bean seemed like a great way to start.
First off, the location is super convenient for me, since it’s a quick stop at the drive through on my way to work. Secondly, the coffee is strong and consistent, whether my drink was iced or hot. Consistently tasty, that is :-) And finally, they have check in offers for Unilocalers! I got a free blueberry scone, which was quite good!
The service is always friendly and relatively fast as well. Definitely recommend!

I was tempted to lower their rating because my wife thinks all the barista-​dudes that work here are hot. Then I remembered I’m not really very jealous, so I couldn’t really penalize them for that.
Their service has always been stellar when we’ve driven through, which is doubly impressive given that it’s usually at a time in the morning when I myself suffer from lethargy. But then again, they do work at a coffee establishment, so morning sluggishness should be inexcusable. In any case, I haven’t really sampled the breadth of their offerings, but I come here for the convenience and the friendliness of the service. Ironically the only negative is the INconvenience of the location if there’s too much traffic on 7^th street, as the entance gets backed up if there are more than, oh 2 or 3 cars in front of you and the next car (s) in line don’t realize there’s a drive-​thru window on the other side of the building. So even there you can find extenuating circumstances to brush the inconvenience off.
Plus, this morning, when asking how much cream she wanted in her coffee, and my wife responded with «Just enough cream to make it like a Mario Lopez color» the barista knew exactly what she was talking about. Perhaps this is the kind of linguistic shorthand our generation has developed over countless hours of Saved By the Bell viewership. Suffice to say, I was impressed.

I started going to the Daily Grind, at first, because of the double drive through. But now I come out of my way sometimes to stop by because their coffee is good, their food is fresh, and everyone here is super nice!
They have the drive through system DOWN. For a small place, they sometimes have two long car lines, and what looks like 4 or 5 people inside making coffee and running it out. It’s fast, efficient, and I like it.
Also, they will customize any drink for you any way you want and they have never gotten it wrong, even when I want something with 4 or 5 modifications or additions. Points.
The ONLY thing that is difficult is that it’s in an awkward location. You pretty much have to be going east on 7^th street to not have to go way out of your way to stop in. But if you like delicious coffee with a smile, it’s worth it.

This place is the best. Their coffee tastes better than Startbucks and Portfolios. They have drive thru and are quick. But best of all, the employees are amazing and cheer me up before I have to head to work on a Saturday! Couldn’t ask for a better coffee shop.
Try their bagels, they are so good! I normally get coffee but their blended mocha is seriously the best I have ever had.

The most delicious coffee and espresso in Long Beach. They have great bagels, too! My favorite is the sun-​dried tomato bagel. 2^nd and 3^rd place are the garlic and everything bagels, respectively.
I get a medium americano with soy and a bagel toasted with cream cheese and it comes out to $ 4.25! What a deal!
Their drive-​through is as efficient as walking in, considering you never know who is in front of you either way.
Their service is at like 75%. Every once in a while I’ll get a bagel with the cream cheese on the side or they will forget to put in the soymilk. Kinda weird stuff, that I have to make sure I check on before I leave because the employees are doing so many things at once, service can be relatively hit or miss. But it’s great! And worth it! Most delicious espresso drinks, great food, fantastic prices AND a drive through! As good as it gets :)

I’ve fallen in love with the iced coffee here. I’ve also fallen in love with how damn convenient it is… If you’re on the right side of the road, if you’re headed westbound — good luck.
You know what else I’ve fallen in love with? The fact that the only employees I’ve ever seen here are hot dudes. And they always perfectly ride the line of good service/​flirty. Not a bad way to start the morning if you ask me.

This place has totally nice staff. They treat you like family. The girls are great. There is free wifi and a drive thru. Even the customers that come in are cool.
I stopped by. I tried the chocolate cupcake, ice coffee and orange juice. All were great. I plan on stopping by regularly so I will post updates when I do!!!
