The Belmont Athletic Club

Club continues its downward spiral. Let me say to all my gay peeps out there that this club is very unfriendly to men in our community. I’m made to feel unwelcome and «watched.» Once, a fully clothed staff member followed me into the shower area to aparantly «check» what I was doing! He was probably sad to see an older gay dude just showering, and nothing more «titilating» for him to see. This same staff member follows me into the empty fitness spaces I use to practice high impact tabata. I would have thought it a coincidence, but he follows me every time I go to the club aparantly «just to check» what I’m doing! What the fuck?! These dolts need to get their gay panic in check. I’m a married man and my hubs comes with me to the club! Jeez Belmont staff… you work in Long Beach. Get used to gay men already. Defintely ending my membership at this bigoted establishment.

I have been a member here for 7 years. I tried to receive a free one day guest pass for my father visiting from out of town and was told that there was told it would cost $ 18. When I told Justin that I have been a member for 7 years he robotically told me it would be $ 18 dollars for a day pass just as he said before. Unreal that I have spent thousands of dollars and they will not waive $ 18 for my father to just to do a day. Can’t believe the customer service and disrespect by making feel like I haven’t been a loyal customer for years. Guess I’m disposable as is anyone else who have supported this establishment for years and years.

So happy to have found an amazing place to workout! Justin in membership is super friendly and all the classes give u such an awesome workout! Thanks Belmont!

I’ve been a member here for a year and I do love this gym. My favorite part is the steam room. I appreciate the towels although they’re a bit threadbare & who knows where they’ve been.
I have to disagree with the reviewer that said they can watch netflix on the wifi. The wifi never works here. It’s frustrating. I do agree with that same reviewer that the core/​stretching area is waaaay too small & actually it’s smaller now that the remodel is done.
The facility is clean, the machines generally are all in working order. I’ve had a few problems with membership & their lack of communication.
All in all a solid gym. I would mark it 4 stars if they had more yoga/​pilates classes at more convenient times (i.e. not at 1PM during the week & not lasting until 9PM at night).

The service is good but pricey for the equipment offered. The locker room with the sauna, spa & pub makes up for alot as well as the location. Coffee is complimentary before noon. The common neighbor may never join here due to the upfront fees although no contracts are pushed like Gold’s. Overall I’m thankful for the eucalyptus sauna & close proximity to Ocean & Home. Teens can join at 14 years of age. Family owned.

Just got done taking Erika’s new 6:30pm class, Elevated Energy. She is a breath of fresh air and so inspiring. Her classes reset my mind and my energy. She beams with positivity and I leave her class feeling energized, healthy and empowered. Highly recommend.

I’ve been a member of many gyms in the several places I’ve lived throughout the United States, and the Belmont Athletic Club is among my favorites.
The facility is small, but makes great use of space. The men’s locker room has a dry and a wet sauna, as well as Jacuzzi and plenty of showers and lockers. There’s sufficient cardio equipment that I’ve never had to wait on a treadmill yet. The Belmont Athletic Club has three or four racquetball courts and even a half-​court for basketball. The weight machines are fairly few, but include all the necessary ones. There’s a squat rack, though only one. However, it is typically available. The facility is maintained well. The interior is being upgraded currently. And, from what I’ve been told by friends who have been members far longer than I, the previous upgrade was not too long ago; so, it seems the Belmont Athletic Club is always trying to improve. Makes me feel like my membership dues are being well invested. I really appreciate that.
I’ve been a member since I moved to the area a little over a year ago. I would not consider switching my membership to another club for almost anything. «The Belmont» truly has a family feel to it. It’s a bit boutique and shares space with an Irish Pub and a massage room. The staff is always friendly, and they keep members up to date with regular newsletters and social media interactions. I look forward to every visit and consider The Belmont to be a bit like my home away from home.
Oh, and the price is reasonable as well. Especially given the constant improvements, and high level of upkeep. I pay about 60 bucks a month and I certainly think the quality is worth it. I highly recommend The Belmont Athletic Club.

I have been a member for 20 years
I use the sauna and steam and jacuzzi three times a week. I noticed the bulb had burned out one day (duh! bulbs do burn out), I mentioned it to one of the employees and it was fixed the next time I came in. And I’ve never gotten sick! The dues are going up only $ 5.00 per membership (not per person)…read what they sent you! In 20 years my dues have only gone up twice. No where else do you think you can find that? For my husband and I, this is a bargain! Conditioner? I don’t want just any conditioner. I bring my own… as do many other women that I know in the locker room. We all have our own preferences. Bring a small bottle of it! this isn’t a hotel.
I have always found the gym to be clean. It’s the members who are slobs and expect the employees to pick up after them. I see members leave their dirty towels on the floor and just walk away from it, an empty bottle just left on the bench. I always see the guys cleaning and mopping.
If you fell asleep in the sauna, why would a clock help you?
The owner has always been accessible and I have found the managers to be very receptive. But then, I speak to the employees of the gym in a respectful tone.
If you want to complain, go to a big box gym and try to get something taken care of! Good luck! Other gyms don’t give you a towel or the use of a locker! Get a grip!
My friends and I are excited about the construction taking place and the bright look of the gym. The equipment is well maintained (something else the slob-​members do is NOT wipe down the equipment after they have sweated all over it or leave their dirty towel draped over the machines!!).
I’ve been a loyal customer and will continue to be!
But, if you are that «disappointed» go somewhere else!
I have used the childcare services and they are wonderful! It is clean, my children were happy and they were not just sat down in front of a TV. In fact, there is not a TV in the room.
I am walking distance to this gym. Could I go elsewhere for less, you bet! But this has a local feel and not full of body builder-​types.

I have been going to this gym off an on for years and really love it. It has a great local feel and nice people. I just started training with Erika and she is great! She really knows what she is doing and really listens to what I need.

i wanted to love this gym, it was the perfect distance away from my apt and was clean, friendly staff. but i have to say in the few classes ive been to in my week trial it felt like i was going to classes for elderly people. instructors were not that intense, actually seemed very unexcited.

One of the first things you’ll notice about this health club, is the friendly staff. Everybody always greets you with a smile, and there are no pressure sales of any kind. They have top notch equipment, classes, courts, spa needs, and more. It’s always EXTREMELY clean, and i never feel germaphopic because that is an area they truly excel in. As a matter of fact, everybody receives a complimentary towel at the front desk. Great workout place, friendly staff, no over crowding or long waiting periods due to their extreme efficiency and abundance of equipment. Completely happy with this wonderful gym gem! :-)

I love the location of this gym and have been a member for about 5 years. This gym is becoming increasingly worn down. The carpet seriously needs replacing and has needed it for the past 5 years. Also, the treadmills seem to always have a «requires maintenance! Not working» sign on them. I love the classes but they have are always the same and rarely add anything new and fresh. I really wish that they would kick it up at this place and do some updates. It has so much potential. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and nice though!

Been going here for almost three years. Very convenient, incredibly clean, great classes, friendly staff, and a sparse crowd of genuinely good folks go here for serious fitness goals. I would highly recommend this gym for anyone in the Belmont Shore area!

I’ve been a member here for a little over two years. This is a really nice, well maintained gym. Not only that, but the people who work out here aren’t creepy, like some other gyms. The staff is also very friendly. The only gripe I have is about their towels. They are the thin white ones, which are fine for working out, but it would be nice to have some other options for those of us showering there. Other than that, I am very happy with this place.

At first I thought this place isn’t that good because lack of equipment that the chain gyms have and it’s a little more expensive than some. After coming here a few weeks I really like this gym. Here is why. IT’S ALWAYS CLEAN. The staff is friendly, helpful, and give you a towel at check-​in. There aren’t a bunch of dirty ass gross people that hock loogies and don’t wipe down machines. Not too crowded. Waaaay less douche bags that stare at themselves in the mirror and lean on equipment they’re not using. NO TALKING on your cell phone. I like that one. If you don’t like the lack of machines go to to App Store and dl a fitness app. It’ll show you tons of free weight exercises and you won’t need machines.

Had to go back to the gym, its been a way to long!

I just started to train with Mike and he is awesome! Very real! He gets down to the core, tells it like it is and really works with you so you know your on track. He really takes the time to personalize my time with him.
Racquet Ball courts are a nice added plus.
The gym is sandwiched between the juice, water and power bars off to the right of the entrance and a beer bar upstairs. Now how much can you ask for? haha!
I think this used to be an old movie theater long time age.

I love this place, I love this place! Gym’s usually gross me out. The guy’s are huge bone heads, super meth or steroided out or whatever they take to get pumped up. They girls are caked in make up covering the towels with their face goop. But not this place!!! It’s a gym! A get your sweat on, take a class, bake in the sauna gym. I couldn’t ask for more. It’s a great monthly deal. The staff is always amazing and friendly. I love that their site has a list of the classes you can take, along with descriptions.

I’m the type of person that will use any little excuse as a reason to not go to the gym. Forgot my towel? Shucks, can’t work out. Didn’t bring a lock for my locker? Looks like I’ll just go home then.
What I love about Belmont Shore Athletic Club is that it truly takes away all the excuses. They give you a towel, provide you with multiple tv’s in the cardio room (which you can request to have programmed to a channel of your choice), have keypads for their lockers, and have free, quality wireless internet which I use to watch netflix while I jog.
The facility is clean, albeit older. The locker room is huge and pristine. Having access to a steam room is a major plus. I’ve never had problems getting a machine I want or weights I want to use. Other members are courteous and polite. And the staff truly go out of their way to make you feel like an important member.
My only complaints are that the core/​stretching area is waaaay too small and that spin classes are an additional charge. Considering the membership is higher than a chain gym, it would be nice if spin was included. One star docked for this.
When all is said and done, you can pop up to Murphy’s and relax with a beer. Which is totally my style. Definitely check this place out if you are looking for a gym that has quality service, machines and atmosphere.

90-​Day Review
After purchasing a membership for my daughter and myself, I felt compelled to give it some time before making any reviews on a club membership.
I must say the club is pretty damn amazing. Always clean, the equipment is always in operating order and the staff is very helpful, kind and considerate.
I did sign up for personal training and have been training with Amanda twice a week for the last three months. I am extremely happy with Amanda and the direction we are going, my body is changing and I am setting goals that I never thought I would even dream about.
It is not hard finding great reviews about this Club, it may cost a few more $$ then the Mega-​Gyms, but the service and facilities are way worth it.
