He is a HERS certified rater with SMUD & PG&E so he can get you thousands of dollars in rebates if you go with approved companies for your different needs (roofing, insulation, window replacement, etc.).

My wife and I are OCD about researching even the smallest purchase, so we did our due diligence before investing in solar. Energy Savings Pro was the best deal by a long shot. Other companies tried to sell us on certain panels or convince us to lease instead of buy, but nothing compared to ESP.
A co-​worker referred me to Charlotte, who was friendly, knowledgable, and communicated really well (even when I got busy and dropped the ball on replying to her). I just got my first PG&E bill … So cool to see a $ 5 electric bill instead of the usual ripoff. Did I mention Charlotte and Energy Savings Pro were both awesome? They are!

We contacted Energy Saving Pros for a quote. Barry was here on July 17^th at the appointed time. After reviewing various other companies, we decided on Energy Saving Pros because they had planned more panels than anyone else and their Best of the Best ratings in addition to the ratings on Unilocal.
We signed the contract on July 31 with a projected installation date of around September 1
We were going to be gone on a cruise from August 15 to August 29 returning home on August 30. While we were gone, they acquired the clearance from our HOA and the necessary permits from the City of Lincoln. They informed us they were ready to install the solar system on August 31. Since we had just arrived home from an overseas trip, we asked if they could do the install on September 1^st. Six workers showed up at 7:00 a.m. on Sept. 1 and the installation was completed in one day with us getting power from the system by the end of the day. The next morning a man form Solar Pros was here to wait around for the inspector from the city to approve the installation. The inspector showed up shortly and the system was then bought off by the inspector.
The only issue that we had was that there was a newly installed circuit breaker by Energy System Pros that kept tripping and it kept our heating and air conditioning system from working properly. It took me about 4 different telephone calls to finally get someone out here to fix the problem. They kept telling me it was fixed but the breaker kept tripping and no one came out to investigate the problem.
At this point the only hurdle left was to get P.G. &E. to connect us to the grid, which Energy Saving Pros facilitated. This was completed on September 16^th. It only took 2 weeks to get the approval from P.G. &E. Barry was terrific to work with, very available and responsive and on top of things.
In particular we appreciate having the «app» that monitors the system performance.

Five stars to these guys. It has been more than a year since our installation and must report that we have been very happy with our new solar system. Install was a breeze and the system hiccupped a couple of times after install but Brian and his crew were ALWAYS very quick to respond and get things right. And we are all the way up in Grass Valley. Having a contractor respond quickly seems to be a dying art so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these guys.

A friend recommend that I call Barry about a possible solar installation. Barry quickly realized that given the small size of our needs and our distance from their base of operations that it wouldn’t make financial sense for them to do the installation (i.e. they would not be able to make a competitive bid given their travel distance). Then, even though I was not going to hire him, Barry helped me sort through multiple bids from other contractors, gave advice about financing, etc. I was thoroughly impressed both by his knowledge, and his willingness to take the time to help me even though he did not know me and wasn’t going to get my business. If I was closer to Loomis there is no question that I would hire them.

If I could give –1 I would. I don’t know how this company has 5 stars! Out of 10 companies I’ve called over the last few months this was THE WORST! I’m very easy to deal with, friendly type of guy but this company has gone far enough to push my buttons. I had to call them 3 TIMES, not once but 3 times in 1 week to ask when someone was going to call me because I had left my name with the front desk lady. Each time I was promised someone would call me back by the end of the day. Well it took 3 calls to finally get someone to call me. Dan finally called me, all I remember is all the BS he fed me… does he not think people go online and read and educate themselves? Some of the ridiculous stuff that came out of his mouth were absurd.
Here’s the best part as per Dan he was selling me poly panels because All manufactures were moving away from Mono panels. Either he’s the biggest Bs’r or has NO clue what he’s talking about.
Well after speaking with him and then informing what type of system I was looking for and my usage etc. he said he’d call my by Friday which was the next day. Today is SATURDAY not a single call… btw I just checked my voicemail and call logs on my cell phone to be sure I didn’t miss a call and I was right… NOT A SINGLE CALL BACK…
But hey thanks guys for passing me up we signed today with a local installer to have a Solarworld 8.55kw system for a FANTASTIC $/​per watt price!!! The best part is this installer has great reviews and live right down the street and came the same day later in the evening after I called him! Now that’s prompt service you guys should learn how that works!

Our experience with the installation of residential solar through Energy Saving Pros was spectacular. Barry arrived prepared with information relative to our solar use that was above what we had expected. He listened to our needs and concerns and did not attempt to oversell. He was available through the whole process. The installation was completed in a timely manner by men who were polite, capable, and pleasant to work with. We would choose Energy Savings Pros again in a heartbeat. The design looks perfect on our roof. This is service we rarely find. Amazing!

So we made our going-​green statement and our electricity bill for our first full month is zero. Nothing. No money. We were paying PG&E over $ 200 /​month, 12 months a year. Going solar saves money.
Energy Saving Pros completed our project in the time-​frame we needed. The crew was fast and efficient. Could not have gone better. And when the work was done our electric meter was running backwards. We were «official» members of the backwards-​running-​meter club. I didn’t even know the club existed until I mentioned our solar to a friend who also went solar. «Welcome to the club,» she said.
So, if I can make only one recommendation regarding solar it is this: Do yourself a favor. Call Energy Saving Pros, call Barry McGinnis. What can I say? These guys are PROS! I did not know much about solar until I started interviewing different companies back in July of 2014. Each company was a little different. I should lease, buy, high priced, low priced, U.S.A. made, foreign made, this warranty, these watts, those watts, on and on. It all seemed to be a foreign language to me. One thing was for sure, like many of the reviews I have seen, they all seemed to be like «used car salesmen». Then, in early August I called Energy Saving Pro’s and made an appointment with Greg Hovde. When Greg showed up at our home, after the initial pleasantries, he went right to work. I was used to the hard sales approach, but not to the in-​depth knowledge Greg shared with us. Nobody could give me a clear understanding of how the solar process works. How much solar I really needed and what I should expect on a seasonal basis. What to look for on my PG&E bills (NEMS), how to read them. The different panels and inverters there are to choose from. So on and so on.
Basically, he took our hands and walked us through the process better than anyone we had talked to. What we really appreciated also was his knowledge regarding our HOA requirements. We were sold! Our decision was not based on price alone. There were several others with larger price tags. We were confident that we had made an intelligent decision based on references, ‘gut feelings’ and information from the 7 other proposals we had received prior.
Greg pretty much took control of the HOA review of my solar proposal. (We have a tough review board.) Within the 2 week review time, we passed and were approved to schedule installation. That never happens with our HOA!
I have a very difficult home, with many different roofing planes. I was amazed at the skill and knowledge of the installers who had to figure out how to put this all together. (I was watching every step of the process!) I don’t know how they did such a clean job of wiring given the lack of attic space they had to work with! In 1 day, I was up and running!
Last week, I was reviewing my solar performance (love it and I am addicted to watching !) My software allows me to see each panel and I noticed one panel was not producing. That was 4:00pm on a Wednesday. The next morning at 9:00am one of their installers was on my roof trying to determine the cause! Wow! I really thought that it would take several days to get this resolved. Happy to report it was only a software glitch, and I never lost production from the panel. I was impressed how seriously they took my call and how quickly they responded.
I can call these guys with questions and they always help! They don’t forget you when they have completed the job. If you are interested in saving money on energy usage, spend the time to call Greg at Energy Saving Pro’s. It will be time well spent!

Researching solar options can be very confusing for the novice with so many options and sales tactics used by various companies. When Charlotte Langston came into the picture from Energy Savings Pro, the clouds parted and the techno babble became clear to me. There were no gimmicks or pressure during the process and she was there to answer any of my questions. I ended up with a system to tailor my needs and not oversold on any panels that I didn’t need for my home. Energy Savings Pro took care of all the needed paperwork with the city for permits and with the county for the financing option we selected (mPower).
The installation crew showed up on time and was very professional. If they had any questions regarding placement of the system, they ensured to verify with us first.
Charlotte followed up to ensure the installation was to our satisfaction and keep us in the loop when PG&E approved our connection application. It is a great feeling to see our usage go negative with PG&E and reduction in our carbon footprint!

All I can say is WOW! My husband and I had looked into solar many times in the past and either it didn’t make financial sense or you had to deal with the creepy car salesman type but then my husband and I met Barry with Energy Saving Pro’s. We were skeptical from the get go but Barry was great. Barry simply presented all the information and then let us decide, no pressure. Barry didn’t pressure us for an answer on such a major decision on the spot. Due to our past experiences with other solar companies our trust didn’t come easy. We explained we had a relative in the industry and out of courtesy had to give them an opportunity to give us a bid. They couldn’t beat the price. Our research didn’t stop there however, we went to a home show and continued to compare and Energy Saving Pro’s couldn’t be beat.
My husband and I were truly amazed at how accessible Barry was from start to finish. From initial contact to install the whole process took about a month and a good portion of this time was my husband and I deciding on financing. I was amazed at how quickly the system was installed especially because my sister started the process with another solar company and it took her over 3 months to complete the process. She should have went with Energy Saving Pro’s.
My husband and I were also extremely impressed with Dave and the rest of the crew that installed the system. The whole team was fantastic. They arrived on time and kept us informed every step of the way. I wish I could remember all of their names because they were all wonderful. A special thanks to Dave though for putting up with our very goofy great Dane and all of our crazy questions.

This was the easiest experience EVER!
First of all, we were paying $ 500 PG&E bills in the summer and our house was kept at 80 degrees. Our family was not only hot, but uncomfortable in our own home. We knew that something had to be done before next summer.
We started to interview companies early November and no one was really looking at our house. Until we met Barry at Energy Saving Pros, he had a complete plan for our house. From our pool pump, adding an attic fan, adding attic insulation and of course getting rid of PG&E by going solar. And the amazing thing, he was cheaper than everyone else.
Barry took his time with us making sure all of our questions were answered. My husband was very reluctant about going solar and Barry took his time to answer all questions. My husband did not want to pay anything to PG&E. Therefore, Barry built a system to cover 100% of our usage. Most companies only built to 80%. One company built a system with a «true up bill» from PG&E that would cost us $ 700 for the year. UM NO!
Once we made the decision to use Barry, he took care of everything for us. He turned in our application for MPower and took care of everything with our HOA. We signed the MPower documents and had our solar installed the next day with the attic insulation done the day after.
The crew was fast, attentive, courteous and thorough. Did not leave a mess and was a pleasure.
This was the easiest home-​improvement project ever!

Our PG&E power bills were running $ 700 — $ 1500 per month. We had solar installed at our previous home and loved it, so we decided to get a system for our new home. We contacted Energy Savings Pros for a quote on our 7000 sq ft home. We were impressed with the value of the system that was quoted and we proceeded with the installation.
Dan Stout, our sales rep, oversaw every detail of the installation from drawings, permits, scheduling, to the actual installation. He went way beyond the call of duty to make sure everything was the way we wanted it. The installation crew was very clean and they completed the job in a very professional and friendly manner. Several of our neighbors were so impressed with Dan and all he did for us, that they are going with ESP also. We have no reservations in recommending ESP, Dan and their fantastic team. They are just a wonderful group of people.

I had my solar installed June 28, 2014. It is a 9.275 kilowatt system. It has been in and working great. I have seen my first PG&E since the install and I already have a credit.
This process began in January with 8 companies coming by to give me bids. Out of the 8, 6 of the companies were out of the running right away. I had 2 remaining companies that I invited over to discuss their company further. It was through this process that I decided to go with energy saving pros. They were very flexible with the install and had a very reasonable price. I was working with a sales person named Barry. He was outstanding. He answered his phone 90% of the time right away and the other 10% he called back within 30 minutes.
On the day of the install I was out with the crew. I have a construction back ground so I very interested in the work they did on my house. I have nothing but good to say about their installers. They were very professional. I was very impressed with the work the electricians did. They made a clean install in and out of my attic. Everything they did was top notch. When the inspector came out from the county, he made several comments on how impressed he was with the install.
I do not right many reviews, but in this case I feel it was well worth it. I have recommended this company to several of my friends who are using them for solar. A solid company to use for solar!!!

Start to finish, the best experience for a home improvement project! I had wanted solar for years, but it was just too expensive for us. I recently discovered that the cost had stabilized, but utilities were skyrocketing. My neighbor went to an educational/​informational class about solar, researched all the local companies, and narrowed his choices to three. Then he invited each to give a presentation, Did more research, and settled on ESP. Shortly afterwards, we had the pleasure of meeting Barry McGinnis, sales rep for ESP. Our neighbor had done all the techno homework, but Barry did something more: he walked us through. Barry never applied high pressure tactics, but merely presented his company’s product, and explained what it was going to do for us. There was ZERO PRESSURE! The financing was doable, and we were very comfortable working with Barry. We also live in an HOA, and I was dreading this. Hahaha, I had nothing to worry about. Barry handled everything!!! He got the plans, got the permit, got the HOA approval. We opted for the panels that are made in the USA. They cost more, but they are better quality, so we needed fewer panels. The crew was on time, professional, and very pleasant to interact with. I am so super excited to be an energy supplier now, rather than just a consumer.

We interviewed two companies prior to ESP. The first company was a disaster, and am so glad we didn’t go with them. The second company I think would have been really good, but the deciding factor for ESP was that we got a larger system for the money. Barry was who assisted us through the process and he couldn’t have been nicer or easier to work with. There were a couple issues where he went above and beyond to help us out with the building department and getting the paperwork to the county. Anytime we had a question he was just a phone call away, and really made us feel like he was there to help us through this. If you’re looking for someone you can trust, then Barry is who you need to see. Energy Saving Pros have my vote!

Barry and the rest of the guys at Energy Saving Pros really helped get our energy efficiency rate way up! With new insulation, and attic fans in addition to solar our monthly PG&E bill is now ZERO! Everyone we spoke to there was super friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable in their hands and never felt like we were being «sold». They beat every bid we had gotten from other companies while still managing to top of the line panels! We are very happy we made the decision to go solar and are excited every time we see our meter running backwards!

I had been looking at getting solar for about 3 years. My husband always said no because the the outrages costs of actually getting it. My husband is a finance guy so all of the numbers had to make sense or he was an firm «NO» …I had met with about 6 other companies and then I found Barry! Barry came prepared… he was able to answer all of my husbands questions. He beat the next best bid by over $ 12,000 yes…12 THOuSAND DOLLARS! Barry was not pushy, he did not say «if you don’t sign the contract today the price wont be available tomorrow «(can’t tell you how many other companies I heard that from) Energy Saving Pros had the solar on my house 2 weeks after I signed the contract, not the 2 – 3 months like the other companies were quoting!
I am so happy with our system! I love the additional insurance of knowing that if any of the companies that make any of the parts on the panel go out of business, there is Zurich Insurance to step in and take care of everything! I have peace of mind. In the first month we had our inverter malfunction. I called Barry he came that day to assess the situation. The next day I had my new inverter installed! Wow! What awesome service. No tail light guarantee here… Energy Saving Pros provide above the call of duty service! If you ever doubt if solar really makes a difference… I can show you my $ 634 PG&E Bill from July 2012 and my $-71.00 bill from July 2013! Yes… that’s right PG&E owes me!
