History

Established in 2009.

I’ve been working with computers ever since my Dad brought home our first Mac when I was 11 years old. Ever since I’ve been the go-to guy for technology related issues for my neighborhood and family friends.

I worked for an IT Consulting firm for several years, was promoted to supervisor, and decided I wanted to do business differently. I wanted to be a shining beacon for fair business practice, excellent customer service, and solid craftsmanship. I’ve built my business on word-of-mouth from bending over backwards to make sure I provide not only great value in my services, but a flexible customer service model that molds itself to my client’s needs rather than my own.

You’ll never ever hear this at my establishment: «Sorry, but that’s our policy.» My policy is that every client that I do business with has a smile on their face when I’m complete, and if not… it’s time to work out a plan to turn that frown upside down! :-)

I have a diverse background in technology. I’ve worked as a video editor, editing reels in Final Cut Pro, as a Computer Technician fixing laptops, as a Help Desk Supervisor for a large IT consultant firm, and as a Freelance IT Guy. I’m currently working on several certifications, one being the MCITP exam in Windows 7 Technologies.

I’m also a photographer and filmmaker, so I understand well the needs of creative folks. I’ve made short films, done lighting /camera for some independent films, and worked as a grip on a few TV pilots.

Bought a Groupon for a virus removal for one computer/laptop not expecting more than just that. Ed is amazing not only did he remove the virus but he wiped the laptop of any personal information and transferred all of my old Itunes files that I thought I had lost forever! I am a writer and writing is pretty much all I know how to do with my computer. So, when I got a message telling me that I was being charged by the US security department for distributing material with child pornography content I was convinced I was unfairly going to jail. The message filled my computer screen and wouldn’t allow me to do anything else unless I paid a fine. I flipped through the pages of my stories trying to find something that could be read as child pornography, but I couldn’t find anything. Something seemed fishy.
I soon found out through a desperate, way-too-early morning phone call that it was just a virus – what a relief! But… I’m not from the US and didn’t want to take my laptop just anywhere for a matter of security. Besides, the few people I know in LA were gone for the summer. I wanted home service and wanted to get the job done on the lobby, by to the landlords’ office – I know, so nit-picking.
I am very thankful for finding Ed. He came on time, did his job in the lobby, was very polite, and removed the virus quicker than I expected. He installed a more reliable Antivirus software than the one I had and gave me – a computer novice – a few tips. Now I know who to call if something like this happens again!

I found Ed on Unilocal about a year ago and I am so glad we did. Even though he isn’t in Las Vegas anymore, he still helps us out remotely pretty regularly. I found Edward about 10 years ago through Craig’s List and he has been a lifesaver numerous times over the years. He moved out of state last year which forced me to find a new computer guy and it was an absolutely disaster. He consulted as much as he could during this time but he couldn’t actually physically handle my computer problems. He is now back in LA and I couldn’t be happier. Being without his services for over a year was awful and made me appreciate his service, work ethic AND knowledge even more. I cannot recommend Edward enough. I’ve had some challenging issues over the years and he has always been able to trouble shoot and figure out the problem and fix it quickly. Edward is also prompt, reliable and easy to get ahold of.

I freaked out when I discovered one of the worst viruses had completely overrun the main computer in my office — it was truly terrifying! I searched on Unilocal,found Ed, called him up immediately. His 5 star ratings were great but I was still suspicious because his prices were so cheap compared to going to a Best Buy or Staples — something like that. In total, he was able to completely remove the virus, re install so much, back up the computer significantly, did more than what we were told he would do, and it only cost $ 220 for the whole thing. Very well priced, very efficient, meets deadlines, and is also extremely nice. Thank you, Ed for all the help!

My laptop is an HP Pavilion and the internet kept going out it because it had a touch bar. This is a problem that is all over the Internet dealing with these laptops, so I knew it was a common complaint.
I googled solutions for it, and found that I could uninstall the touch software that controlled the volume (which would randomly come on my screen and go up and down for no reason, making it nearly impossible to use my laptop), but I if I uninstalled the software for the Internet, I wouldn’t be able to connect to the internet at all. There is no manual switch for it, so I was out of luck. The only solution I could find online was to sodder the switch permanently on.
Luckily for me, Ed had a different solution. He took apart my laptop, took out the a ribbon (I don’t know what the ribbon was for, problably something to do with the touch capabilities). Now, my laptop is always connected to the Internet, which is what I want anyway.
For $ 60, Ed made my laptop work perfectly. I used to be so frustrated when I used it, because the Internet would always go off at the most inconvenient times, like when I was trying to purchase something. Now, it’s great. I’ve had no issues since Ed fixed it.
If you have a computer with issues, take it to this guy. You won’t be sorry!

Ed the computer guy was absoutely amazing!!!
I had omly bought my laptop from Best Buy less than a month ago for school in a graduate program so my laptop is my life right now. When I bought the bells and whistles kit at Best Buy I thought I would not have to worry about viruses and when they occured the Geek Squad would take care of it but I was so wrong. The Geek Squad tried to charge me $ 200 for the virus removal after I had finished buying over $ 800 worth of protection (the laptop is included in that price) and that I only bought protection for hardware. I was so upset about this and asked for my laptop back, that is when I found the ad for Ed the computer Guy (thank GOD). He fixed my laptop after two days and has it running better that the Weak Squad could ever do. Thank you so much the guy they call Ed.

I run a small business in Pasadena, CA and needed a low cost but effective computer technician. Ed responded quickly to my Craigslist ad asking for help, and we emailed enough so that I was confident he knew what needed to be done. He showed up on time and did a fantastic job of everything I needed at a bargain price.
This included adding a 4^th computer to my network, setting up the ACT! program on it, making that computer the server for my other 3 computers, cleaning up the network paths already there and making a simple new network for the 4 computers. And finding files, linking things up so they would work was easy for him — Ed’s got mad computer skills.

Let it be known that Eddie Uken is a tech god!
I knew he was good in high school… that’s why I entrusted our flock
of Mac G3s to him (they were top of the line back then, believe it or
not). He not only kept them running – despite daily abuse from two
dozen yearbook staffers – he managed to crank out an amazing yearbook
CD-ROM on them… the first in Mission San Jose High School’s history.
But little did I know that five years later, he would resuscitate my
home computer, saving it from the junkyard, and saving me hundreds of
dollars and untold aggravation.
It was a Gateway, and it was a disaster. My husband had downloaded
all manner of weird stuff, and it was infected with so many viruses
and whatnot that it didn’t even turn on anymore. My husband had made
several attempts to fix the problem, but no luck.
We were ready to chuck it and buy a whole new computer when I thought
of Eddie… and he graciously offered to check it out.
Miracles of miracles, he fixed it. I’m not sure how he did it, but it
works, better than ever, actually, and we’re very happy.
