It is awesome. Delicious, enough and nice waiter. All of us were very satisfied with the taste and the service.

I came to eat with my family on the weekend at this spot. It looked like people like the food since it was a bit crowded. Boy I was wrong !! The service was ok but the food was over cooked and had no taste ! I was truly disappointed on the results at this establishment. Never again and save you the trouble go somewhere else.

Really big restaurant and very crowded and busy. The food is not very authentic and not really delicious very much. The amount of food is small and the price is high. The waiters are also not very nice.

They don’t have General Tso’s chicken. WTF? They don’t even know what this dish is. It’s the most standard American-Chinese dish in existence and they’ve never heard of it?

The crowd misled us. My date and I decided to get Chinese food after visiting the Day of the Dead celebration on Olvera Street. I wanted bbq pork, so we headed to Chinatown. We even did our due diligence by peeking in each restaurant on the block, and HKBBQ was the most crowded. Every dish we had was not good. We got fried calamari, bbq pork, and dumplings. The frozen dumplings I had in my freezer from Trader Joe’s was better than the five puny dumplings we were served. BBQ cha shiu pork was somewhat cold. It was also simultaneously dry and fatty. I’m not sure if you’ve had this kind of day old meat, where you bite in and the only moisture is from the chunk of fat. It could be because we came at the end of the day, so the pieces served to us had been under the heat lamp all day. The calamari was the only edible(and somewhat good) dish for awhile until we got to the part where someone seemed to have dropped the salt shaker. Unbearably salty. We gave up at this point. Try the Hop Woo down the street.

Went here cause nothing else was open. These careless individual s handed me and my children undercooked pink ‘orange chicken’ with mainly fat and ligaments. I should have known it has b for health code. Not to mention the teen in the kitchen itching his foot and texting.

Ive been going here since I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s. Place still hasn’t really changed. I love this place. Great Chinese food, awesome service, and great Chinese environment. Has a to go line or a sit and eat line. Gets kinda busy during lunch and dinner, but a late night snack is perfect.

I always love this place. Affordable and really taste like food is straight out of Hong Kong. Idk what happen to their old Unilocal account? I kept it simple and got the wonton soup today. For some reason it was super salty but it could be bc I dropped the entire chili sauce into the bowl. Always a good place for Chinese comfort food.

The food came out lickety-split, it nearly worried us. Where did this dish come from? I came for the roast duck, but we liked the steamed chicken the best. Simple, clean, refreshing. The lobster can’t compare to Newport lobster, unfortunately. We didn’t like the«special» of pork and green beans — overcooked. Service is average. They got really busy and sometimes it was hard to flag down a waiter. As at least one Unilocaler noticed, food is a salt lick and you will need water. Lots of water. Hence, a waiter. So, I wish they’d just place a carafe of water on your table during peak times. Help everyone out. We will go back and try some more dishes, dishes that looked good on other people’s table and of course, for that steamed chicken. Hainan style/bai qie ji :-)

Nothing mind blowing or ground breaking. It’s a Chinese restaurant in china town. Foods good, service was quick. They did mess our order up though. We ordered a half roasted pork and half barbeque pork plate, but they brought us roasted pork and roasted duck. SALTCOMA to follow — beware!

With a place like Hong Kong BBQ I had to wonder where was the Hong Kong menu items?! Anyways the menu was your typical Chinatown restaurant menu, with your usual favorites that are most popular among the Los Angeles crowd. I ordered the 3 meat rice dish which included the BBQ pork, the BBQ duck, and the chicken. This dish also came with a side of steamed Chinese broccoli which was a nice surprise addition. The flavor on the dish was standard and it was honestly pretty good. The plum sauce that came with it also did not disappoint. The wonton noodle soup though was interestingly flavored. The soup itself was really salty and was too sweet for a clear soup. The waiter was the worst. He got 3 of our orders wrong, and then put the tea drink my mother ordered on the wrong table which we got near the end of the service because we had to inquire about where it went. There are other places I rather eat at around the area.

A friend and I came here for a late weeknight dinner. She wanted some roasted duck and rice, while I opted for the WONTONNOODLESOUP. A cheap and filling meal. And I was actually pleasantly surprised by the wontons.

Unilocal First World Problems Is it bad that I hate eating at bad restaurants but I like that I can write 1 or 2 star reviews to fill those low star quotas? I have a problem. Do you think this too? First world problems. «So much food here and I want to eat bad food just so I can write about it!» Grease Monkey No, not the oil change place… I mean the dishes, but not the monkey dishes, that only happens in Indiana Jones movies. You know, «Doctor Jones! Doctor Jones!» Indie goes to a Indian palace and eats monkey eye balls out of a monkey skull. Good stuff. Unlike how good those eyeballs probably were, dishes at Hong Kong BBQ were not as good. Everything was so greasy I could have drained out every dish and poured it into my cars gas tank and it would run. I think I just shaved off like 5 years of my life for eating here. Arteries officially clogged. Don’t be fooled by my awesome photos, all that glistening food is just the gallon of vegetable oil they pour on top of each dish. Chinese’s «New» Means Changing Names Man they fooled me good, I thought it was a «new» restaurant on Unilocal but turns out it’s just the old Sam Woo in Chinatown but they changed names. It’s still that dirty old location where food is all over the ground and you want to bring your own chair and table covers so you don’t have to touch anything in the restaurant. I better shower now.

The BBQ pork was delicious. Very authentic Chinese Food, if you know what to order. Everything has great, fresh flavor! I’d recommend the onion and pepper black bean clams, and BBQ pork with Rice. Everything I tried had excellent flavor except the wonton was okay. The prices were ridiculously cheap for how much you get! $ 12 for a plate of clams! Come on in and eat!

Last night after the dodger game it as something that hit the spot. We love the sizzling rice soup small as enough for 4 and we got wonton noodle soup beef chow fun and chicken black bean chow mein. It was exceptionally yummy we got our food ASAP but it was 11:00 and no one waiting for food. Parking is not an issue at 11:00 pm but nah other time I hate the parking.

I ordered the duck noodle soup with dumplings. The duck was mostly fat and bones, the noodles and broth flavorless, the dumplings meh. It was like the time I made instant ramen and forgot to add the powdered soup base. The Chinese broccoli was also not good, so al dente and bitter. I think it was cheap at least? As for ambiance(or lack thereof), the room is like an open cafeteria with pictures of menu items and prices on the walls and overall the place looks and feels grimy. You can even see into the open bathrooms from certain tables… It sports a B health rating. I looked up the violations online afterwards and didn’t feel very good about having eaten there. Listen, I know there are people who enjoy divey Chinese joints. If the food were amazing, I’d be willing to overlook the B rating and grungey atmosphere, but the food was bad. No reason to come back. Cash only.

Perfect place for large groups of friends/family to come and eat. Much of their food options are served family style. I prefer family style over ordering something for myself because I’m able to try a bunch of different food. Everything we ordered here was so amazing. I loved their shrimp and walnut dish and their braised pork belly, too *droooool*. They give you a pot of tea to drink which I always love. Service is amazing and food is yummy. They also offer a to-go section for people who are in a hurry(sort of like panda express style where you choose what you want) Might be confusing to find. Enter where it says Sam Woo. next to it, connected, is Hong Kong BBQ. Not sure why they don’t have a sign outside. maybe they’re trying to attract hipsters: P Parking is a pain in the a** in this area in general. I’m not sure if there’s a validated lot around here, but I know there are paid lots($ 4) around about a block away or street parking(if you’re lucky enough to find one). —minus 1 star— Overall, very authentic tasting Chinese food worth the private lot fee to come and try. I would just try to make a day of it in Chinatown if you’re going to pay for the private lot :)

Came here on Chinese New Year(woot woot) after the attending the Temple’s New Year Bash. After futile efforts to find Won Kok, we settled for this place. As per other reviews, not really sure if this place is Sam Woo or Hong Kong BBQ. So I ordered 3 things: Cashew Beef, Orange Chicken, and Chicken Wing Appetizer. I gotta say: The food here is really average. The Chicken Wings were good, flavorful, and had a fair amount of seasoning to top it off. Now, this is an appetizer. But we somehow got it at the end of the meal(??). This was the best dish. Cashew Beef had the necessary beef and cashews, with a fair amount of celery to top it off(when I say fair, I mean a plateload). It’s kinda ironic that a dish called Cashew Beef is like 20% cashews and beef and like 80% celery. Average, really. Orange Chicken is probably the most recognizable white people’s Chinese food(scoot over Chow Mein). Unfortunately, the Orange Chicken had bad balance. It was too sour(just a bit too sour) and too soft from the bread being soggy. I hate to say it, but Panda Express has better orange chicken. For being in the heart of Chinatown, I’m not very impressed. In fact, I’ve had better Chinese food in Chino Hills. Would I come here again? Probably not. I’d rather go look for Won Kok.
