The tamales are good, i feel they need to up the amount of meat they have though, or instead of mainly putting fat in the pork ones put actual meat. Their tacos are really small they also lack meat. This place is a B rating meaning they arent exactly clean.

These were a little disappointing. I compare all tamales to La Mascota and these did not compare. The Chicken ones were pretty awesome. The beef and pork had nowhere near the quality of meat at La Mascota(a lot more fat) and were a lot hotter than the ones from La Mascota. I like medium hot and these were a step or two over that. Also, the masa seemed not as light, not as good. (But I think La Mascota has changed owners recently and the quality may be falling?) Tamales were cheap, everyone that worked there was friendly.

12÷18÷15 I purchased 3 dozen tamales for my Christmas party later that evening. After spending almost 60.00 you think they’d be appreciative! But noooo! The old man operating the cash register took my money never said thank you! While he was giving me my change I asked him if he had salsa for my tamales, 1st time I asked he ignored me, I asked a second time, then with a very nasty attitude he pointed to one of the service workers and said ask her. (I was like wowwww did i just get disk by an elderly cashier??? How Dare You!!!) So anyway the service worker was polite… Unfortunately she only gave me 2 small cups of salsa For 36 tamales, I said is this all I get for 36 tamales? She replied sorry Señor that’s all I have!!! I said thanks and left the store. Fast forward to 10 p.m. that evening, «Party time» all of my guests have arrived and everyone is hungry… The first batch of food offer to my guest were an assortment of Lupita’s tamales!!! Some of my attendees were from the old school of Mexican tamale making, so their opinions mattered highly!!! These horrible tamales did not get 1compliment in fact I overheard my guess complaining to each other as I passed them during their conversations. Now my curiosity was sparked so I went and retrieved a cheese tamale for my consumption… I open the corn husk and broke a piece of the tamale, my first reaction, «what the hell is this»(pardon my french) the tamale crumbled like day old cornbread at a hillbilly wedding… it was extremely dry & bland as if «extra dry» was a menu option,(I could have digest play sand better than these tamales) I began to choke and cough, had to grab some strong sparkling cider to put moisture in my throat to use as a plunging agent ewww! In my conclusion Lupita’s horrible tamales are only rivaled by their horrible customer service which goes hand N hand. Sincerely, My experience

Friendly service, greeted with a smile and a wave to my daughter. I walked in 15 minutes before closing hoping to get 2 dozen tamales but scared that they wouldn’t have any left. To my surprise, there was a fresh batch of all choices of tamales! There were several others in line behind me as well, and we all got outer orders in on time before closing. $ 1.50/tamale or 1 dozen/$ 16.50. To top it all off, they still had some champurrado left… Yumm.

Best tamales ever! The chicken is the best. So moist and flavorful. I usually pair guacamole sauce from Super King with the chicken tamale.

One of my go to spots for tamales. Generously filled, inexpensive, quick and portable. Perfect fast food for the budget conscious.

WOW!(5STARS) This was a great find, only 15 min. from the house, and that can be dangerous. Got 6 chicken, 6 beef, 6 cheese, and 6 pineapple, at $ 16.50 per dozen. Great price. Already ate the beef, which was a little spicy, and with lots of sauce, very moist. Taking some to my Mom’s house, and she’ll certainly like them They have other stuff, like torts and breakfast plates, but I came for one thing … tamales … we’ll actually 24 things … to go of course. They were low on the pineapple, so got a mixture of strawberry.

I tried the beef, pork, and cheese. The masa was dry and tasteless on all three varieties. The meat on the beef and pork wasn’t clean and still had gristle attached. Another overrated tamale place.

I am a tamale critic and the bar is high with me. I am rarely ever impressed with 98% of the tamales I eat. These tamales are delicious and they are a good size without overdoing it on the masa. The red sauce in the beef tamale has a good spice to it, not overpowering or too spicy. The cheese and chile tamale is a dry tamale but still very good. Generous cheese and if you pour some green salsa on top it’s pretty good stuff! We also had the Champurrado which was good and tasty. I know some may find it to be a little too sweet but I just think it depends on what you are eating with the champ and how your pallette is at the moment. So, I do recommend you check this place out, I know I’ll be back. If you are looking for 5-star tamales, I recommend Juanitos on Floral by Eastern in East Los. Disclaimer: They have sauce in them, they are served just a little wet, if that’s not for you then don’t bother with Juanitos. You might try Lupitas and rate them a 5!

I’ve passed by Lupita’s many times, and finally gave it a try. The carne Asada burrito was tasty. Meat seasoned well, but not too salty, which I notice is a trend with some Mexican restaurant’s Asada. The beans were not as thick as I like, but still tasted fine. The burrito was made quickly, and service was friendly. It’s located next to ABC rehearsal studios, where I practice. So, I’ll be back to try the lengua.

These are the best tamales I’ve had, they are full of flavor and with the right texture. They only need to be consistent on the amount of salsa they put inside the tamal. Sometimes you will get a dry tamal and sometimes a tamal floating in salsa.

They have really good tamales but a really bad service and if you complain about anything the owner will say lets go out side and fix this as we do it in mexico its our money we deserve respect.

I love coming here! Their tacos and tamales are my favorite here! I never got the chance to try their other food. I really want to try their burritos too! I always get their carne asada tacos and the meat is pretty tasty. I love the way they warm their tortillas! I’ve tried their pork and chicken tamales. I love their pork, however sometimes they over do it with the sauce, but still tastes amazing, Their chicken is good too but they kind of lack sauce, just needs to add a little more and perfecto! All in all, they satisfy my craving for mexican food.

My coworker brought some of these to the office when I had a severe cold where I couldn’t even taste. I hadn’t ate so I was like I have nothing to lose. I can feel and taste the spice in these tamales and they were amazing not to mention it cured my cold. So I got them another time and omg their super juicy. It’s so hard to find good tamales like this and I’m from east la. Well Lilliana’s and la india tamales ain’t got shit on this place.

I didn’t come here for the tamales, although I did end up buying one, just because I had to — it was OK. I came here for an asada burrito. The burrito was big, filled with a great balance of beef, rice and beans. Though small, this place gets busy during breakfast and lunch. Great champurado.

Located right off the freeway. There is a small parking lot. Get there early or you might not be able to get flavors you want. This place sells out early. I usually get here at 7:30 to get the beef tamales. I’ve been here around 8 and it has been sold out. The masa is so well seasoned and the flavor of the sauce and meats are good combination. The beef and pork are usually quite spicy. It’s also really cheap to get a dozen tamales! Probably the best tamales I’ve had in LA. They also have strawberry tamales, haven’t tried it yet. I will be back. Don’t forget, Cash only!

Pros: super cheap/inexpensive(especially for tamales) & wide variety of tamales(each one is pretty big too) Cons: some of the meat they use in the tamales is too fatty; some tamales are too soft/wet that they fall apart; overall… too salty

Liked this place so much went back the next day Yummy big tamales and although some of their tacos were better than others(I really liked the lengua taco, I tried one of each kind) they were all good Service was nice to me — and mi espanol es muy malo :) I usually make tamales around the holidays and pride myself on mine being the absolute best ever(in my opinion). These were better than mine and tons of filling. The green chicken was huge. Glassell park is far away, but I may order my tamales from here this year instead of making them. I’d rather eat these.

Lupita’s is a good place to come for a quick, cheap meal. If you’re down to your last two bucks you can get a chicken, pork, beef, or cheese tamale. I liked their homemade Mexican Beef Tamale, it was quite large and filling, packed with beef and chile sauce. A good buy at $ 1.50 The sweet Strawberry Tamale is a shockingly bright red, but on the plain side. Just solid masa flavored and colored with agua de fresa/strawberry drink. I would have enjoyed it much more if it had a filling, such as a couple of strawberries, or a bit of strawberry jam, and a few walnuts. The sweet tamale was just a bit smaller than the beef tamale. Please see my attached picture comparing the two tamales.

Since my first visit four years ago I gave Lupita’s 3.5-Stars… they’ve improved quite a bit in the quality of food they are producing, I did notice one of their chefs who was previously at La Estrella! This update is for their Breakfast Burritos which they offer three varieties, Ham, Chorizo and Veggie at $ 3.95, I got two of them and I’m sure you know which two! Breakfast Burritos $ 3.95 Ham — Pretty good size breakfast burrito filled with Ham, Eggs, Beans and Salsa… I’ll take beans over potato’s any day so I really like the fact they put beans instead of your traditional«Hash Browns» it is a much«softer» feeling and messier burrito to eat than your typical burrito also due to the lack of filler(rice/potato) to soak up the juices. Chorizo — Chorizo, Eggs, Beans and Salsa, the burrito had the chorizo grease drips but damn was it good I preferred the Chorizo and the Wife preferred the Ham, it’s all good and the prices are right! 4 — 4.5/Stars ((((COMESUPPORTYOURLOCALSMALLBUSINESS))))
