This was a horrible experience. I was leaving breakfast with some friends and decided to see what they had inside. I waited outside at first to take a call and when I came in the lady at the counter (owner) was mean mugging all of them. They proceeded to shop discomforted. When questions arose from the products the shopkeeper would only give short answers and continues to eyeball all of us as if we were shoplifting. The only reasoning for these actions were that the shoppers were people of color. It was pretty blatant. I had to step out from the uncomfortableness of the situation. My girlfriend ask the lady what time they were going to close to come back for a piece and was replied with, «you’re not coming back». Now, I am a retail store owner and have been in the industry for 13 years and I have never seen something like this. She was very right, we will never come back. No one should have to come into an environment like that expecting a nice retail experience. So, do not shop at this store– the lady is a racist. And why go to an over priced thrift store anyways. There is a goodwill around the corner and I’ve personally found amazing things there. Go there instead.

It’s a shame their sunglasses are so cute and affordable, because they fall apart within a week of wearing them. This has happened to me 3 times in the past 6 months. The sales woman is also incredibly rude and watches you like a hawk every time you shop. Not a fun or comfortable shopping experience.

I sorta get what this store is about. Sorta. I mean, the cat theme is adorable, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t really see what is so special about a store with shoes lined up all over the floor and shelves of cut out cat pictures in 25 cent thrift store frames sold for $ 25. I didn’t really see any actual vintage clothes either. It was a bit misleading. I popped in to see what all the fuss was about and soon after popped out. Just a bunch of overpriced kitsch and tchotchkes.

I loved Meowdy! The ambiance of the store is parts cute and kitschy, but tastefully so.
While some items can be on the pricey side, there’s plenty of really cute things that are very reasonably priced. I think what really makes this store is just how unique or beautiful the items are; it definitely caters to a certain kind of shopper but if you are that person (like me) then this store is a dream come true, and makes for a really fun experience.
I purchased a necklace and some sunglasses for myself, and found some perfect cat-​themed items for a friend’s upcoming birthday. Bonus: there’s also unicorn stuff here as well! I will be back for a unicorn necklace at some point.

Adorable cat themed store. Definitely on the pricey end. Jewelry is very pretty and delicate and not just cat themed. Necklaces bracelets and rings ranges from $ 35-​$ 150 a piece. Shoes are gorgeous mostly leather vintage pieces in really cool cite unique styles. No two pair are the same. The shoes start at $ 65 and go up to around $ 300. I’m not a big cat person so this store wasn’t really up my alley but there were some cute journals and sunglasses and greeting cards and other trinkets to ooh and ahh over and get the estrogen flowing. Pretty great options for last minute gifts for girls.

I went back here the other day for a birthday gift and the Asian clerk behind the counter was there as usual. I went in with the intention to shower her with love, and lo and behold I had a completely different experience.
Miki, that’s her name, was helpful and cheerful and we had a lovely conversation and she told me all about her cat and when I bought a pair of earrings for my friend I asked if my friend could exchange them and she gave me seven days to do the exchange even though normally she has an all sales final policy.
Wow!!!

This is the first time I ever leave a bad review because I try to put myself in the shoes of the other person, I know customers may be difficult to deal with and a person can get annoyed but there is no way I would treat someone in a rude manner or laugh at them just for asking a question even if it was silly or not. Reading other people’s reviews looks they have too gone through a similar situation at this place. Hopefully the rude asian girl who was there gets a serious attitude adjustment and learns good customer service or gets replaced.

I was very disappointed with my experience at this place. Before going in I was really excited but the service from the Asian girl working there immediately drove me out. I couldn’t look at anything without being stared down like I was some criminal, every time I touched anything she would ask what I was looking for. I looked at some purse and apparently I didn’t put it back in its place correctly and she immediately fixed it back in its place as soon as I stepped away from it. Never again will I step in here. The service is bad and their junk is way over priced. I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

This is my go to shop when I’m looking for something cool and unique. The owner is always super helpful and knows her stuff. Plus she’s Japanese, which means top notch service, unlike most snooty or stupid American and European shops. I always find something whenever I drop by. Love it!!!

It’s weird how dead on my intuition can be sometimes. The second I stepped into the store I could feel the weirdness and bad vibe coming from behind the counter. I had my little service dog with me and a small cup of coffee. After a few minutes of looking and not being greeted (I was the ONLY ONE in the store) I decided to break the ice and ask her how long she’d been here at this location and she responded «4 years». I started chuckling out of embarrassment because I have lived here in this area for a very long time and had no idea this place existed, but before I had a chance to explain any of that she instantly goes into this weird defense mode (I guess) and starts asking «what? what is so funny??» I then explained to her «Oh nothing, I just can’t believe I live here and have never seen this store.» It was more about how unobservant I am and not anything about her or her store. I could feel she took offense to this anyways. At one point when I was looking at shoes she asked me what size I wear and I said 5 – 6 and she quickly pointed me to the section. I just wanted to feel free to browse and relax but I could feel she wanted me out of there. She followed me to where my size shoes were even tho I could walk the 5ft myself, that’s when it really hit me… Oh…she’s one of THOSE store owners. As I started to look at the shoes she asks in her nice (phony) voice can she please put my cup of coffee on the counter, I swear to god. before I even had time to answer she snatched it out of my hand and went to put it on the counter. I was a little shocked and thought it was so bizarre!!! I tried to ignore it. I bent down and looked at some amazing shoes (inspite of her HUGE lack of customer service and having gratitude that ANYONE is walking into her store, she does have some amazing things) and of course flipped them over to see the price sticker. Something just snapped in me. I went ballistic inside my head. I picked up several just to make sure that it wasn’t just that one THAT WAS WAYYYY OVER PRICED!!! I couldn’t even control myself, like a knee jerk reaction I say out loud «this is ridiculous!!!» I get up, stomp over to my coffee and walk out but before I cross the threashhold I say without turning around «you can get over yourself with those prices!!!» I know it was the chicken shit way of doing it but I was so livid!!! Are you serious???
Here’s really what it is folks… I AM SO SOO SO SICK AND TIRED OF THESE THRIFT STORES AND «VINTAGE» STORES RAPING US WITH OUTRGEOUS PRICES!!! I walked into Meowdy and maybe it was her attitude that didn’t help either but it just sent me into thinking ‘THAT IS THE LAST STRAW’. Why? Why why why do these vintage stores think they can ram us in the bum with these prices??? I lived through all of the 70’s and 80’s these items were’nt even close to being this expensive then, why mark them up 70%-80% now? I KNOW HOW MUCH THESE STORES ARE PAYING FOR THESE ITEMS! I know all the tricks and secrets. It’s costing them practically nothing!!! I buy and sell clothes myself, I’ve been in the business a long time. I have never been fortuate enough to have my own little cute store in trendy Los Feliz. but that is my dream, but I do know that if and when that happens my promise is to not charge people a great amount. like a friggen car payment! You will NEVER see an older person who has one of these shops take advantage of people, they tend to be fair in price. It’s these young store owners who most of them weren’t even born in the 50’s or 60’s and barely born in the 70’s but mostly born in the early 80’s! I’m guessing Dan K. is either a relative or got paid for his gold review of this place bc it’s phony as fuhk! LOL
As you can see I have no history on Unilocal, in fact I hate Unilocal, I never use it… but today was THE day. I started reading her reviews and see some of them aren’t good. for a reason! What an ungrateful ungracious B! TCH this woman was. If it was my store I would treat everyone with love and kindness, respect and not be so uptight! I would have faith that not everyone who walks into your store is a theif or a bad person (I’m braizilian so in the summer I get very very dark. I’m just gonna throw this out there. I think that was half the problem she had with me. she obviously didn’t trust me and I see now I’m not the only one. Araceli R. had a similar experience and poor Jenn T. apprently got more of a beating than I did!!).
Please people WAKE UP!!! Don’t allow yourselves to be bamboozled by this kind of establishment

Yes, prices are high but the things one may find here are one of a kind. The owner was attentive and even offered me her card.

I am literally outside and came in with another nanny. We aren’t stealing your use stuff and you don’t need to keep your eye on us. We do honest work and your attitude is pathetic. It’s sad you think we are going to steal.
I decide to walk in and ask her if she had a problem with us walking in her store. She immediately ran behind the counter. She said she didn’t judge us and to never go back to her store.
The nanny I was with had mentioned that I should not go in there because she had previously kicked another nanny out because she couldn’t afford anything in there!!!
Your awful!!! I wouldn’t pay for your old and used stuff anyways! If I ever had to steal I would steal new items. Thanks a lot, the child I care for learned today how awful people can be! !!

I agree… AVOID THIS PLACE like the plague. The owner is the rudest person I have ever come across in retail. She literally walked beside me while I shopped, following me and straightening everything I touched as I looked at it. It was the most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had at a store in my life. I’m not sure if she is chemically imbalanced or what, but it was mind blowing. She then screamed at me and told me to leave her store. Not surprised to see similar reviews on here but it’s a shame– Los Feliz is a great area and this woman is really violent. I’ve never called the cops on a store owner before but I almost did and I wouldn’t be surprised if one day I read about this shop owner in the paper. VERY DISTURBING.

This is shop is like the wardrobe department for an early 90s slightly fantastical indie movie set in Santa Fe. Dig it.
The shop definitely has a point of view and distinctive feel, which is what makes it special. Some of my most complimented items of clothing have been the dresses & caftans I’ve bought here, but I’ve also picked up jumpsuits, leather sandals and heels in really good condition for reasonable prices. Of course it’s a bit more expensive than some other huge «anything goes» thrift shops, but part of what you’re paying for is how well everything is curated. I say this as someone with a very small clothing budget.
I think all the shade thrown at the owner is really overblown. She’s funny and helpful and sweet, maybe a bit shy at first. I think she owns and works the place entirely by herself (she’s been in there every time I’ve been there), so it’s understandable that she’s a bit protective over her items/doesn’t dole out cheery welcomes to every single person that walks in. The first time I walked in the store she told me firmly that I can’t bring my iced tea inside, but I wasn’t OUTRAGED like people seem to get around here. I put my tea outside and came back in the shop and bought some clothes & shoes that are still holding up really well (not something I can say for clothes I get at a lot of vintage stores).
Remains one of my go-​to shops. And I don’t even like cats that much.

Yeah, they do have a few cute kitty and unicorn items, but their vintage clothing and shoe selection did not impress me at all. Most of their clothes were very overpriced for garments that were very simple/​had little to no detail. Was not impressed by the shoe section or jewelry either. I did almost buy a pair of cat earrings, but I was very turned off by the odd porno music that their employee was listening too. I have an open mind and I like all types of music, but it just was awkward!!! Like I don’t want to hear moaning while I’m trying to shop with my friends. will not return.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this charming vintage boutique after a relaxed brunch at Alcove with Candice C. A display of kitschy, needlepoint cat coin purses caught my eye as we were passing by on Hillhurst. I was drawn to an absolutely splendid display wall of 80s inspired jewelry, including golden unicorn pendants and flashy kitty-​cat broaches.
Meowdy carries a carefully curated selection of stylish pre-​owned clothing, shoes, and purses (mostly Dooney & Burke and Coach) which will make vintage-​fiends like myself swoon! Additionally, this shop sells fun, unique gifts — perfect for your stylish hipster friend or any girl who wishes she still has a Lisa Frank binder. I was beyond enchanted by the feminine, youthful aesthetic of every product. Many of the gifts are handmade my local artisans — think cream of the crop of
goods. If you love all things cute, rainbow, kitschy, and girly, stop by Meowdy!
In regards to the MANY comments about owner — I’ll chime in. Her style of salesmanship is a little overly aggressive for my taste but overall I found her to be friendly, fun, and adorably quirky. I was slightly taken aback when I asked to look at a gold necklace in a locked case and she said «it’s $ 78, are you sure?» — perhaps implying that I couldn’t afford the bauble. Aside from that, I liked chatting with her about vintage shopping in the LA area and she gushed over my choice of gold vintage flats! I thought the prices were completely reasonable — my flats looked like they had been worn once and were $ 35, sunglasses were in the $ 10 – 25 range, and there are a few bargain bins with random vintage clothing/​accessories.

Adorable stock with a great selection of cute cat-​themed things – my favorite. However the prices are stupidly overpriced and the customer service by the owner, as others have said, is UNREAL.
I got screamed at for walking in eating yogurt. I understand, there’s a sign saying no food or drink for a reason. But there is a way to talk to your customers – and screeching from across the store is NOT the way.
Once I left my frozen yogurt and walked back in I once again yelled at when I took my phone out because the owner thought I was taking pictures of her merchandise. At this point I was over it and went to walk out – don’t worry, the owner again yelled at me to pick up the bowl of frozen yogurt I had left by the door. U N R E A L.

Selections are great but it’s pricey. The jewelry section is my favorite — cute and simple, and reflects the decade it comes from. The vintage dead stock is worth buying. They don’t make them anymore. The store is themed like an 80’s teenage girl’s bedroom with cat and unicorn paraphernalia.
It’s a great store. The only reason I docked two stars was because of the service. Although the associate was hospitable, she was insistent of having my mom to purchase something even though she didn’t want to.

My cat Agora (pics in profile) is a pretty cool cat (no pun intended). She’s a spunky 8 year old who is well-​traveled (having sat in an Uhaul truck for a 5-​day ‘cross country move), loves to play fetch and with lasers, and does «rollies» for treats. If she needed clothes, I’m sure she would have amazing style and would probably shop at Meowdy. Heck, I think she would work there. She must take after her mama because as my Unilocal buddies know, I am a vintage clothing aficionado.
Meowdy is a quaint vintage/​thrift/​vintage-​inspired shop in Los Feliz. Most people know (even Agora knows this) that my biggest annoyance with «vintage» shops are claims of vintage goods which clearly aren’t. I know vintage fabrics, styles, brands, etc and can tell real from fake. Meowdy carries AUTHENTIC vintage dresses, coats, shirts, purses, shoes, accessories and housewares. This is supplemented by some new vintage-​style boutique goods (which are thankfully on a separate rack).
Even more awesome? Meowdy carries retro novelty items like a working Garfield phone, unicorn 3-​D framed photos, wood carvings, etc. Many of these items are ones you will remember from your childhood (or earlier) and are clean, scratch-​free, etc. Even if you aren’t in the market to make a purchase, a smile will cross your face simply from browsing. Speaking of browsing, you won’t have an issue with a crowded store nor with a messy display. Meowdy has a productive store flow and the racks are organized by style/​gender.
Service was so-​so. Only one Asian woman was on duty (which I gather from other reviews is the owner/​only employee); but unlike other reviews she wasn’t rude to me. Granted, she didn’t welcome me or talk to me and merely stared; but it seemed more of the Asian submissive personality than her being rude. Regardless, that lack of customer service needs to be amped up a bit.
My major pet peeve (okay, pun intended that time) with Meowdy is the prices. I found a vintage dress which I own the exact same version of (which I bought at a thrift store for $ 2) selling at Meowdy for $ 38! A purse that I can find at Goodwill was about $ 25. The markup is crazy. Again though, Meowdy is great for browsing if your wallet is merely too skinny.
Meowdy is a great neighborhood vintage shop which the neighborhood cats would dig. Hopefully these cats have jobs to afford the high prices, though!
