This is a great place to find a good gift for someone special, even though you are not looking for one, they also have a nice selection of cards made with recycled wood, which o find pretty cool.
They have all type of items with a price range that can accommodate your needs, the times that I’ve been there I always ended up with a different a nice things that I’m sure are going to make someone happy!

Quirky gift shop in my neighborhood that leans in heavily to fun dinosaur items and Wes Anderson gift-​books. What’s not to love?

Really love this place for unique, cool, or quirky gifts.
I like to be able to give my friends some rememberable gifts for their birthdays and I always find myself spending an hour in here searching for something that will work — but I’m always successful!
Their prices are a bit on the higher side but I guess it’s expected since they do all the leg work of gathering all the cool items in one place.
They have everything from cool jewelry to funny books, weird toys, to awkward coffee mugs. I just picked up a water container called «swell» for a friend’s birthday gift and she loves it!
Definitely a cool place to stop by, pass time and buy something «different»…they also have a store location on Melrose! Very cool spot!

This place is super cute with lots of fun, unique items. Some of the pricing seems waaaay off-​base, but if you search there are some items that seem to charge the perceived market value.
I did find a few things that I adored but were out of budget, thinking I could find this online somewhere for the half the price.
In the end I purchased 3 votive candles as $ 14/​ea, a bit steep IMHO; a lip stain, and a book of love poems.
I think was $ 75 all in.
It was really the lack of warm customer service that put me off. We entered the store with no greeting or even eye contact. She was too busy pretending to look busy. She was one of those hip, thrift store shoppin’ with a bit grunge mixed into her look, transplants to LA that think aloof is «thing.» Not in customer service, sweetie.
Anyway she finally cracked a smile when she realized I was a patron who is spending money. Yay! To be judged by your capitalistic habits is my favorite on a Sunday afternoon.
It’s too bad that good employees are hard to find. It’s to the detriment of business owners to NOT place good help as the face of their establishment.

Since we were short on time (January wedding) they quickly helped us get it resized down the street.

Reading the rest of the reviews, I can see that I’m not the only person who had a negative reaction to this place due to their lackluster business practices.
We purchased an (overpriced) zodiac-​themed necklace. Unfortunately, we later found out after sending it across the country that we made a bonehead move of purchasing the wrong sign. «No problem, we can easily exchange it.»…is what any normal customer would think. After having it sent back and innocently (albeit slightly embarrassingly) we went into Spitfire to explain our situation and make an even exchange (we could see that they DID have the needed Aries necklace in stock) we were not only greeted with a negative attitude from one of their trendy sales associates, but after telling us we couldn’t exchange it, even went as far as to accuse us of bringing in an item that we didn’t even purchase there?! They clearly sell the necklace there and I can only assume it’s made by a local artisan, so the reaction we received was very strange along with obviously being rude.
We used to shop here regularly for the rare gem of a gift and/​or birthday cards, but never again. I thought I understood the «buy locally» sensibility, but can attest that I’d rather shop somewhere where I’m not called a criminal and can assume typical customer service.
Anybody looking for a gift for that special Taurus out there? I have a necklace for sale. I can guarantee my exchange policy is better than Spitfire’s which is just short of a kick in the balls.

This is such a fun little store. Clothes, jewelry, off beat toys for adults and kids. They carry only the quirky and independently made and distributed type of gifts. All unique, all specific to this store. I have never seen anything in this store anywhere else.
If you are looking to surprise and friend or a loved one with a cute and thoughtful present that will not break the bank, I suggest you give Spitfire Girl a try.
The people who work here are incredibly kind and courteous and they love where they work which is always the best of signs.

Every time there’s a gift to be given, I’m always sure to pop into Spitfire Girl to see what’s the latest. Great, unique gifts for all ages. On top of fun retro toys, jewelry and cool housewares, there’s a lot of custom art and house-​designed décor you can’t find anywhere else. Check it!

My absolute favorite go-​to place for gifts for people I really like! The staff is super friendly and helpful and the variety and selection of items are great. I always walk away with something unique and quirky, great conversational pieces that always stand apart from the norm.

This store is amazing! You can find weird beautiful stuff like animal heads to hang on the wall (I love the sheep and the duck). The jewelry is amazing too. Prices are affordable after all. Definitely the best place to find an unconventional gift!

This is my go to spot for just about anything, from really nice jewelry for the lady, to art books, toys for the nephews and great stationery. Whoever buys for the store is genius. I have been going to both stores for years, the one in Echo Park closed a few years ago I think, and I have never had anything but AWESOME customer service from everyone that works there. Spitfire Girl has never let me down.

Spitfire Girl is a cute, quirky gift shop a couple doors down from Alcove on Hillhurst. It’s a short walk from my house and I tend to use it as a default stop for last-​minute gift shopping. The wares are fun, if often stunningly expensive. I always find something to buy when I need to — I can walk in without ideas and walk out with a wrapped gift within fifteen minutes.
The window displays are always eye-​catching and a little bit strange, heavy on unique home goods. The store sells a lot of these, as well as a nice selection of fashion jewelry and other sundry gift shop items. The prices are pretty high. Twenty bucks will get you a stocking stuffer or two, and you’re even fairly limited with fifty in your pocket. Still, I’ve gotten some cool jewelry in the $ 40 – 60 range, and it’s all gone over well with my friends. The staff is also approachable and helpful. If you say how much you want to spend, they will show you the best uses for your money.
My husband has gotten me a couple gifts here that are very dear to my heart. One is a wooden bookmark featuring a dog on a diving board. The other is a ceramic dish with a basset hound head on a human torso in the middle. (I am a dog lady, and more specifically a basset lady.) He got me the dish as an impromptu Christmas gift, and I freaked out when I opened it. The basset part looked just like my dog, and the torso was slouched in a striped T-​shirt, looking more or less like my husband. The plate was basically made for me. I asked how much it cost, and he prompted me to guess. «Twenty?» «No.» «Forty??» «Forty-​five. I thought about getting two, but just, no.» So yeah, monstrously overpriced, but more importantly, perfect.
I will say I have yet to test some of the finer points of customer service at Spitfire — I’ve spent money, but I’ve never tried to make a return. The other reviews do make me wary, and all potential customers should probably read them. Still, I’ll continue to default to Spitfire Girl for gifts and basset home goods as long as we’re both in the neighborhood.

I bought an item from this store. When I went in to exchange it within the 30 exchange period stated on the receipt, I didn’t see anything that struck my fancy, so I was offered store credit. When I went in to use the store credit several months later, I was told I could not use the credit because it had expired. The receipt clearly stated exchanges must be completed within 30 days, but there was no mention on the receipt or given verbally regarding store credit expirations. Had I been made aware of such a policy, I would have followed it. I called backs week or so later and asked to speak to the manager. I didn’t receive a return call. I called back back two more times. When I spoke to the manager, she said she would be fired if she honored the credit, and told me the owner would not return a phone call if I left a message. I was a loyal customer, but after this shabby and short sighted treatment, I will never return. I will talk to the owner, however, in small claims court.

This review is for the online store. I placed an order at the end of November and my credit card was charged the same day but it’s been over 2 weeks and the package hasn’t arrived. After contacting customer service 3 times, I was informed it shipped 2 days ago. I contacted customer service twice via email and once via telephone and only received a email reply after the third inquiry. I heard about spitfire from Lola Star in Coney Island, but won’t be ordering anything from here in the future unless shipping and customer service improves. I realize it’s not amazon but I certainly expected my package to arrive faster than 2 weeks (and counting) and a reply to my first inquiry — not third.

Oh, Spitfire Girl, your immaculately curated collection of home décor and accessories will bankrupt me.

Not only did you feel «in» with this friend, but the mere piece of paper solidified that you had a social gathering to count down the days, hours, minutes (maybe even seconds) to. Sadly, invitations are a dying breed in the world of e-​vites and Facebook «events». However, for those of you whom still seek creative way to invite your friends and family to your next event, look no further than Spitfire Girl.
Spitfire Girl is sort of an artsy, etsy-​type shop whose main feature are wooden and cardstock invitations and postcards generated from the mind of the owner (and other artists they work with from as far as New York). Portraying various themes (such as Victorian figures or screen-​printed/​stenciled woodland creatures); the cards at Spitfire Girl will help to add to the essence of your next party.
Not looking for postcards or you are merely anti-​social? No problem. Spitfire Girl sells other goods ranging from pillows, jewelry, paper weights and books to novelty items such as bobble-​heads for car dashboards. Despite your initial reason to step foot into the shop, browsing is a pleasure. Prices are steep, but hey: looking at the items is free!
Customer Service isn’t shabby. Although the clerk on duty didn’t immediately welcome us; once we mentioned that we were first-​timers, she gabbed our heads off about the history of the shop, the owner, the products, etc. Knowledgeable and pleasant; she added to the store’s breezy aire.

This cool ass store ain’t so cool. My friend seems to have an addiction to this store so, I tagged along.
As Christmas was near and this place being a gift shop, I figured I’d pick up a thing or 2 to close my Christmas list. Honestly, there was nothing in this store that one would absolutely ‘need’. When I shop, because I’m a Mom of 3, I try to be frugal and ask myself «Do I really NEED this? Or do I just WANT it?»
C’mon people we’ve all been victim to impulse shopping and I’m no different. A $ 45 candle later (oh my), three $ 4 toy figurines that you might find in a 50¢ machine and an overpriced lollipop Mp3 speaker (which I originally thought was a microphone… fun for the kiddos) that was actually $ 10 cheaper online, I had no use for.
When I got home, I reevaluated my purchases and decided to find something more fitting for my gift recipients. So 2 days later, with my receipt in hand, I decided to take some stuff back for return and keep the cute Christmas ornament I also purchased.
Well, this store needs to SERIOUSLY take a lesson in customer service and California State Law. Not only were they rude, but obnoxious and pretentious too. Apparently, once you spend your hard earned cash there, it’s theirs forever.
Without any sign in the store or marking on my receipt did it say, ‘EXCHANGE ONLY’. WTF? In all of my life, did I ever encounter a store that did not honor a return of unopened items, with a receipt within (at least) 7 days.
When I told them there was nothing in the store that I was interested in and just wanted the money back on my card, they treated me like I was subhuman. The woman at the counter was at least nice to ask her male coworker to reconsider (½ star) but, he just repeated the unposted ‘store policy’ (this is totally illegal folks! Consumers have rights!) So, the ‘nice’ woman at the counter told me she didn’t have the authority but, «if you want, I could come back in an hour to speak to the owner because she’s out to pick up her kid from Pre-​K.»
Really? I don’t live nearby and I have a life too… but, OK. If that’s what it takes. 1 hour later… no show. «Oh, she’s stuck in traffic» said Jason, the male coworker.
(Of course, this IS LA during rush hour!)
Well, couldn’t you or I discuss this with her over the phone?
«No. She’s driving and it’s dangerous and illegal»
Really? A business owner without a Bluetooth headset? Who are you? Are you the manager?

He proceeds to tell me, very obnoxiously that I’m the 1^st in all of their 3 years that did not want to exchange for something else. How pretentious of them to think that everything in the store is the bees knees and How Dare I not want something else? Granted, there are a few cute things (1 star)…I said a FEW but, I’m not really the tchachki type and everything here is really overpriced. I told him that they are violating CA State Law that protects consumers and besides, what’s the big deal? You can refund my money and just reshelf the items! He rudely rolled his eyes knowing I was firm in my demand.

A woman comes storming out and berates me for ‘causing a problem’ and talks to me like I’m a child.
Miss…this is terrible customer service! What happened to ‘The Customer is Always Right?’ Your ‘store policy’ is a violation of CA State Law. I just want a refund.
She cuts me off by saying «That’s enough! How about I have Jason escort you out of here?!»
Well, after much persistence, she reluctantly takes my items back and my phone number and tells me that she has NO IDEA how to even process a refund! Double WTF? So, I walk out with no items and no refund totally feeling like an ass and totally taken advantage of.
My girlfriend bought a $ 200+ necklace there (no price tag on it), then changed her mind after looking at the receipt when she got home, because her rent was due in a week. I told her to FUGEDDABOUTIT… She is screwed!
Anyways, the next ½ star goes to the owner for actually doing what’s right and processing my refund. Should I have gone through such aggravation to get it? Absolutely not! Will I ever shop there again? No way. Was it a relief to warn others about it as my 1^st Unilocal review? Hell yeah!
Hold on tight to those pockets people before you spend at this store. Not only are you fueling their greed, you’ve just sold your soul to meaningless tchachki’s.

Have you ever walked into a store and just immediately felt completely at home? I hadn’t til I stepped into this magical little store, and gradually realized that I wanted everything in it. With the exception of some raw looking black leather wallets (ehhh) each shelf had innumerable items that were just oozing with charm. I spent waaaaaaay too long poking around here and will absolutely be back.
I didn’t realize they had a second location — stumbled on this one quite by mistake — until reading the reviews here, so I’ll definitely have to check out the one on Sunset too and see if it holds up.

Moseyed in here after brunch today and instantly fell in love with the witty, beautifully designed trinkets & treasures inside. Kristin carries her own brand of sustainably harvested handmade greeting cards, postcards & artwork printed on wood. She also has one of the raddest selections of home décor, books, apothecary beauty products, gift items, gadgets & jewelry in town.
I got an antique key necklace with the word «joy» printed on it. I just had to buy it. It had my name on it, after all, right? Meant to be. I also snagged a wooden bookmark with a cherry blossom print on it.
I could have easily bought one of everything in that entire store because there wasn’t one thing in there I didn’t like.
Not one.
Next time, I want to get the mollaspace gun notebook, grenade coin bank & maybe even the golden pig piggy bank.
