Moles La Tia

This was another great find, thanks to Groupon. I don’t often venture that far east of LA and would probably have never known of Moles la Tia’s existence had I not purchased the deal. We have dined here several times since, at varying times of day and it’s never been more than a few minutes to be seated.
For breakfast: café de olla was piping hot, cinnamon-​y and sweetened the way I like. I ordered the breakfast mole dish. The perfect yolks on those over easy eggs added to the richness of the mole sauce. Hand pressed tortillas, perfectly seasoned potatoes, flavorful beans and sliced quesadilla pieces generously rounded out the plate.
For dinner, I ordered the portobello dish. It came with a soup. It was vegetarian and plenty yummy. The signature horchata comes with toasted pepitas in a sugar rimmed glass.
I’ve tried the pistachio and coconut flan, but couldn’t decide which one I enjoyed more.
Easy street parking and consistent, attentive service and I have every reason to come back.

My mother lives in Mexico and I’m a busy 19 year old which leaves me with little to no time to cook and I was really craving some Mexican food and my little brother and I decided to Unilocal it and we found this place. We walked it and we were greeted, which we found great. We had a table cleared and we were seated. We saw the prices and thought it was a little pricey but we overlooked that because we both wanted Mexican food and he really loves mole so we thought this was going to be great. We ordered our drinks and 5 minutes later another employee comes and asked us what we wanted to drink when we had already ordered it with someone else. I truly dislike when places don’t have some sort of order or organization. We got our food and we were excited because we were hungry and barely having our first meal of the day at 2 in the afternoon. My brother and I both tried the mole poblano and it was really disgusting. We were very disappointed. I also ordered agua chiles which I have an obsession with and for $ 15 it was not worth it. It wasn’t as spicy as I have usually tried my brother and I ate it though because it was decent enough to have. We also had agua de piña which was delicious but when we wanted more they didn’t have any so they offered us horchata and we accepted and when they brought it to us we tried it and it was not what we expected. We were both very disappointed with our entire experience in this place. We just wanted to pay and leave. We didn’t want to wait around for our bill to be picked up we went straight to the front, paid, and left. It was just one of the those experiences we wouldn’t want to go thru again.

I went to this restaurant last night for the first time. I was a little worried when I walked in because there was no one there. I was the only customer there.
I ordered the mole chalupas for appetizer.
They were pretty good. For my main dish I ordered Mole almendrado. Which it’s a almond mole. The food was decent but I just think it’s a little pricey for the quality.
They definitely need to lower their price.
I enjoyed the food because I was super hungry but not sure if I’ll be back.

This place has phenomenal authentic mole, and I’d be giving 5 stars, however, it is priced a little too high. Most main dishes were at least $ 18, which is more expensive than some of the other really good mole spots in the LA area. I’d love to come back, I really enjoyed the quesadilla con flor de calabaza as well as the mole poblano and their aguas frescas were delicious, but, I do think they may want to reconsider their pricing.

Breakfast is on point. The chilequiles are always bomb. The fresh aguas are super refreshing. Its a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for.

Love this lil spot, we come often for breakfast. We love the mole sauce. Traditional with a twist from the mole to the bomb horchata and pepino water. Can’t go wrong with this place, support local for sure. May not be hipster friendly so bring your madrecita to help you order.

Descent quality food but a bit overpriced. I usually pay $ 50 or more on big known restaurants and my plate alone end up being $ 27. I used to love their atmosphere but on this recent visit their décor was out the window. If you love flavor this is your spot because the food is very authentic. They are very unique on their taste and spices, so not your everyday horchata recipe or dish.

Great food, great service. La mejor comida mexicana que e probado en los angeles. The café de la hoya is delicious, they also have freshly squeezed orange juice. I would really recomend this place.

If you are in search of homemade, authentic food you must give this a try. Arrive hungry. You will not be disappointed. I’ve eaten all over these 50 states. This is truly a gem.

I asked for an horchata and they gave me dirty water. My moms mole taste better and trust me, she can’t cook! I recommend la tia takes cooking classes on how to make a tasty mole and a descent horchata.
Oh yeah and I can’t forget their potato purée soup, tasted very similar to a soup I had when I visited my grandma at her senior home!

I keep coming back, feels like home. Huevos con chorrizo and an agua de pepino with lime.

I had lunch at Moles La Tia in Los Angeles, CA on 9÷22÷2015. It was my 1^st time there. I had their Diabla shrimp ($ 18) which came with potato leek soup. I had a tamarindo drink. Plus, I took photos.

Moles La Tia, you are officially my new jam. So good.
Recently, we had plans to catch up with an old friend over dinner. He requested Mexican food (good man), so we turned to Unilocal for recs. After sifting through several pages of prospects, we settled on Moles La Tia due to their extensive mole selection and delicious looking handmade tortillas. Also proximity as it’s only a 5-​minute drive from my house.
Small-​ish menu. I didn’t find any tamales here, which was slightly disappointing as there are few things in life I appreciate more than a good solid tamal. But have no fear, there are plenty of other delicious morsels to be had.
We ordered a nopales (cactus) salad with grilled queso, chicharrón quesadilla, and the $ 40 mole sampler platter to share. The latter comes with your choice of four mole sauces and four proteins. We chose the black poblano, green pistachio, red chile, and white (!) coconut paired with salmon, scallop, chicken, and pork. Oh, and also two beverages to share — the beautiful horchata sprinkled with hibiscus petals and a large cinnamon-​spiked Mexican iced coffee.
Everything was amazing. Seriously so amazing. The white coconut mole was definitely my favorite — very light and fragrant with a uniquely savory flavor.
I also really appreciated the prompt and attentive service. Everything about my dining experience was on point. Can’t wait to come back to try everything else on the menu.

Parking on the street. Lots of signs with 2 hour parking limits.
I ordered the horchata and it was delicious. It does not taste like your traditional horchata; it has a very nutty flavor but it’s very good and different! They top it with toasted pumpkin seeds and cactus nectar! So good!
I really want to come back and try their moles, but so far the horchata is very good!
The staff is also very friendly. They explained to me what their horchata was composed of and chit chatted, and was also greeted as I entered.

Horchata — topped with pepitas and cactus nectar. The pepitas made it very nutty, it was a very different flavor but I did enjoy it. Refills are half of original price.
Quatro y Quatro $ 40 — 4 meats & 4 moles — chicken, beef, pork, shrimp & poblano (red), black, pistachio (green) & coconut (white) moles. This dish is good for trying all the moles that they have to offer. There were more choices but I felt like these were good choices with the given meats. The meats are basically grilled with very little seasoning, but they are meant to be paired with each of the moles.
The best pairings I felt were good were:
Beef & Black Mole — the smokey & spicy flavor of the black mole complemented the Beef to give it a good tang.
Pork & Pistachio — Pork was a little dry but flavored well with the nutty flavors
Pork & Coconut — the pork flavored well with the coconut cream mole
Chicken & Poblano — Chicken was good with most sauces, it had the right blends with the red poblano sauce which did not overwhelm any other flavors
Shrimp & Coconut — The sweetness of the Coconut cream tasted better with the shrimp
Overall: It was a decent meal. I would come back to try something else tho.

Moles La Tia has become my favorite place to visit when I am craving chilaquiles. From day one when my boyfriend brought me to this little gem in East LA, it was LOVE AT FIRST BITE and that love for the savory, spicy, yet delicious flavors of authentic Mexican FOOD, that tastes like it just came out of my aunts kitchen, continues to grow with each and every visit. The flavors on spot on and with the many options they have to offer, you will keep coming to try them all. From Chipotle, salsa verde, mole, and many, many more, the options are endless. My favorite are the Tipicos, with the green sauce which are not too spicy and just perfect for me. They come with beans, queso fresco, and mini quesadillas, which are pleasant and yummy side. The green sauce is drizzled over the tortillas chips and to my pleasant surprise the chips are still crispy and not soggy at all.
To complement the chilaquiles, the café de la olla is a much needed necessity, although by the time my food comes out I am probably on my second cup as they provide unlimited refills, which is a deal in itself as it is exceptionally delicious.
They are also known for their Moles of course, for which I am looking forward to a future afternoon visit to try and of course don’t forget to try their Aguas frescas, which are made fresh everyday, and of course their Horchata is a definite must as it is quite delicious and not super sweet and comes garnished with pumpkin seeds.
Aside from their delicious food and café de la olla, the service is amazing. The waitresses are super nice and very attentive and believe me your coffee cup will never be empty. They are always smiling, despite the fact that they are running around tending to all their customers which give this place another plus.
So bookmark this ace and give it a try, I promise you will not leave disappointed.

Decided to have lunch out to destress from work.
We got empenadillas that are filled with cheese and calabasa with cream and guacamole.
Office mates ordered horchatta and they liked it.
We got chilaquiles, chicken mole, and cochinita pibil.
Lunch was great, but I thought it was a little expensive.
Regardless, I will come back.

3 — stars enmoladas tricolor $ 14, I never thought some one would ever fk up pipian aka pepian hmm i was wrong. pipian rojo, mole blanco (la novia), and pipian verde with a filling of shredded chicken marinated with tomato sauce, not worth the price. i was expecting more like mexican down the border food what a disappointment. This restaurant is not far from the projects in East L.A. They specialize in 13 different MOLES… they even have mango mole. FYI, guacamole is NOT one of the real moles :-)~
Anyway, our meal started off with tasty chips and salsa. This is like the old faithful at a Mexican restaurant, right?
Then came the veggie soups. Piping hot broth was very sip-​worthy!
I had the TRICOLOR MOLE platter with 3 different moles (red, white and green), but you can choose any mole combination you want.
I agree with Miguel R. on the nice presentation, plus they were all good. The green mole was spicy-​yum. While the (semi-​sweet) white mole was outstanding!!! Unilocalers did not lie!
If you get dragged to this restaurant, don’t fret! They have non-​mole entrees as well. My husband had the seafood platter of shrimp & scallops. He liked it. Let’s just say that he polished his entire plate before I was even half-​way through with my meal.
FRESH homemade tortillas came with meals. All tortillas SHOULD be like this!
We had these exotic hot pink horchatas with pumpkin seeds on top. Oaxaca style? They were not drowned in sugar like some of the others I had out there. Get one!
Definitely not your average Mexican restaurant! Next time I want to try the Oaxacan (hard-​core) black mole, and the mole poblano. I’m also ordering that white mole all over again. BTW, you can purchase a portion of mole by itself for $ 3 if you really want to get your mole fix.
Good thing we had the Amazon local deal — it was $ 15 for $ 30 worth of food. It came in very handy because each entrée above was $ 14 and the drinks were more than $ 3 each. The hood is getting kinda pricey!
