Why MSW (Moo Sool Won) Martial Arts?

We are committed to teaching our students life skills necessary to thrive in our modern day world. Our current world is too complacent and «okay» with being average. We teach our students to think BIG and to achieve success!

We instill in every student: personal responsibility, self confidence, discipline, manners, respect for parents/​each other, positive «yes I can» attitude, emphasis on good grades at school, belief in «helping out» (specifically with household chores for our younger students), courage to stand up to bullies, balance of mind, body, and spirit, and overall well being.

With MSW’s curriculum, students will not only develop good character, but become healthy and fit. Training overcomes laziness and plants the seed of hard work and it’s rewards. We are committed to make our students life champions.

History

Established in 1968.

Great Grandmaster Yong Moon resided in Busan, South Korea (opened first dojang in 1968) where he taught Korean Kung Fu (Shaolin Longfist, Tai-​Chi, Praying Mantis, and Pakua Chang) before coming to Louisiana to open his school during the 80’s! He worked closely with NFL players from the New Orleans Saints, and with then head coach Jim E. Mora.

GGM Yong Moon opened MSW Martial Arts, Los Angeles, in the early 90’s. Since then, GGM Yong Moon and his wife, GM Ari Moon have taught over a thousand students. Their philosophy, to build character through martial arts traditions and etiquette, has been the foundation of all of our training.

Now, their son is taking over the school and is challenging the previous martial arts’ status quo. He is bringing a modern twist to martial arts, yet still retaining its core values and philosophies. He understands the needs of people back in the day and modern day are different and is beginning to bridge the gap between generations and cultures.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Attended Wilton Place Elementary, John Burroughs Middle School, & Daniel Murphy High School. Graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a major in Molecular Biology (Go Bears!). Completed a Post-​Baccalaureate Program at the California State University, East Bay. Interned at the University of California, Davis Medical Center Surgery Department. Worked at University of Southern California Medical School as a Lab Manager under the famous Dr. Jae Jung, Chair of the Molecular Microbiology and Immunology Department.

Now, I am the new Director of MSW Martial Arts and am honored to serve my community. I am thrilled to give back to the community that shaped me into the person I am today. Come and learn from a native Angelino!
