I’ve waited at least two months to write this review because I didn’t want to share the secret of where I’ve purchased my glorious, highly complimented, Boho-ish, perfect-for-summer dresses and tunics. Alas, I love this place so much that I’m gonna have to share. But in case a trend starts, remember — it all started here! In preparation for my upcoming wedding and honeymoon, I’ve been casually searching for«resort» and honeymoon wear that would be comfortable and easily packable. More importantly, I’ve been looking for clothes that are breathable enough to withstand Greece, Egypt and India — India, in the summer… when it’s 110+. Intent on buying bridesmaids shoes, I serendipitously glanced at a very small sign above my head that said«Hindu Clothing.» Jackpot. Would I find unwearable garments? Would it be expensive? Are these clothes for religious occasions? No, No and No! Though they looked as unassuming and unflattering as big ‘ol ponchos, I knew these dresses would look awesome on me. I love rich, vibrant colors, so these were right up my alley. Shaped like big rectangles, the secret is in the cut and ties at the waist which simultaneously, makes your waist look teeny tiny and your boobs look huge. I bought 10 of these flowy tunics and dresses without even trying it on. They come in a myriad of colors, fabrics and lengths. The moment I got home and got it on, it became my new favorite dresses.
Just like I didn’t want to share this store, I didn’t want to share with my mom. The unfortunate thing about having a young mom is 1) she wants to share clothes and 2) she’ll guilt you into giving her something you’re already wearing. Just like this review, I waited weeks before I let her see me in my dress and as expected. She loved it and the other 9 I purchased. A week later I was back at Ruby’s. This time, I said, these would be for me. Another week later, after wearing one of the dresses during our engagement photo shoot and having my girlfriends see, I was again dress-less, save for the one I wore on the shoot. Sigh. Yesterday, I made what I hope to be my last trip to my secret gem in the fashion district. At $ 10 a piece(and less if you buy more), these will be my summer staple and showcased extensively while we’re sweating across Rajasthan.
