Stella Adler Academy offers extensive training for the serious actor in theatre, film, and television. We offer a full two year program or part time/​individual classes.

We host a world class faculty who strive to provide the tools, training, and discipline to nurture and support actors. All of our technique, scene, script and camera teachers studied directly with Stella Adler herself.

If you are interested in auditing, we would be happy to have you! We invite you to come audit a class (or two or three) to see if this technique is right for you.

History

Established in 1985.

Stella Adler Los Angeles is a world renowned acting school located in the heart of Hollywood, California. The Stella Adler Technique grew out of Miss Adler’s personal work with Konstantin Stanislavski, the father of modern acting. After a long and successful career in films and on Broadway, including ten years with the famous «Group Theatre,» Adler opened her New York school in 1949. She taught acting technique based on her personal work with Konstantine Stanislavski a technique that nurtures the imagination of the actor. After teaching for many years in Los Angeles at various venues, Stella Adler, along with Joanne Linville and Irene Gilbert, founded the Stella Adler– Los Angeles in 1985.

Driven by the belief that growth as an actor and growth as a person are the same, our Academy & Theatre provides the tools, training, and discipline to nurture and support actors who are committed not only to the art form, but to a life of social engagement. In addition to our teaching center, we offer public programming and extensive community outreach.

Just saw Snapshots tonight at this theater. I thought it was a great space. Intimate but not TOO tiny. I thought the play was at 8pm but it was at 7pm so I was 40 min late. But the staff was super nice. And someone (not sure if they were connected to the theater or Snapshots) ushered me in at an appropriate time. And she literally held my arm because it was so dark which sounds creepy but was actually really nice. I haven’t been to a play in LA in years and just based on the space alone, I would definitely come back.

Just finished my 1st year at the Stella Adler and I can’t express how much I have learned as an actor. The teachers really know what they are talking about, and truly inspire you to find the essence of your character. The technique classes are amazing and teach you even with the minute exercises, a foundation that is vital for a performance. The voice classes help ground yourself in the root of your character, and the movement classes are extraordinary– they take acting to a whole other level in the experiences that are needed in the body i.e. how does fear feel in your body? Are you thinking about it or do you feel it to the core? The great thing about the full time program is that all the classes compliment each other, and all the teachers are in tune with each other. The great thing about taking classes separately is that you get to immerse yourself with one class at a time. I’ve taken both full time and part time and have enjoyed both terms– but trust me once you start with one class you’ll want to take them all. With all this in mind, this school is not for the weak hearted. The classes are challenging (doable with hard work) and the teachers will push you as far as you can go. Every class builds on the one before, therefore perfecting the technique will pay off. After all Stella Adler believed that acting was not a talent, but a result of technique. If you truly want to learn acting and be good at it– this is the place to go.

I was kind of new to the acting world and very new to LA, when I came here. All I can say is that this is more than just a professional school that teaches you an acting technique that actually works, it is also a home and shelter in a crazy town. It feels like a place where you can be yourself, find yourself and express your ideas and your art — all this while earning an education and growing as a professional actor.
The teachers and faculty are so caring, I’ve never been to a place where the people that are teaching and working there actually love what they are doing — and it really shows.
If you’re looking for a place that will teach you acting and also some life lessons — this is the place to be…

This school is a gem in Hollywood. An establishment since the 80s, the faculty and administration all studied with Stella Adler and it shows in the passion they have for keeping her alive in their teachings and in the care they have for their students.
As a student of the Academy for 2 plus years, I have grown so much from my starting point. I came to Stella with a great foundation of theatre training and immediately felt that I had found the technique and the teachers to get me to the next level. The technique requires immense imagination, script analysis, focus, and listening. It honors the world that the playwright, characters, and themes serve. My favorite classes have been all of the Movements with Kennedy Brown (something unique to the Academy’s curriculum!), Character with Tim McNeil, Technique III with Milton Justice, Script Breakdown with Laura Leyva, Audition Skills with Chris Thornton, and Greek Theatre with Yorgos Karamihos!!!
Small class sizes (currently in a class of 5 people!) and the family vibe in classrooms and the hallways make for the best rapport with your teachers and self on where you’re at with your process.
When you leave here you’ll be able to handle any audition and job that comes your way. Be it for stage or screen. The teachers want only to give you the tools that you can then pick, chose, and strengthen to make the best process for your work ever. And their insight on navigating the industry is always on point.
Call and make an appointment to tour and sit in on classes for free and you’ll see right away what I’m talking about.

I first came to LA searching for a school that would teach me how to act better for screen, because I had a good deal of experience in theater before. I also wanted to strenghten my method and to be bold when aproaching a role. What I ended up finding is an amazing school that gives you that and much more.
Based on Stella Adler’s techniques on the use of imagination, I found out a new and potent way of improving myself as an actor and also as a Human Being. Great teachers, great people, great environment!

If you’re looking a nurturing environment to grow as an artists this is the place to go, if you want a more corporate sterile place where you’re just another money making number this is not for you.

Was here to see my cousin in the 10 Ten Minute Plays. The theater is small — will probably seat 50 people (first come first serve).
Casual place. Don’t need to get all dressed up as if you’re going to a REAL play. It’s like going to a school play — well I guess it kind of is a school play.
I guess they put on a decent low production show.

Just saw the play «Amy & Elliott» — faced paced, great writing, capable actors… worth seeing! It’s a «young couple comes to terms with life» comedy… very funny. Bravo & well done!

My 2nd Show @ Stella Adler Theater was a preview of Amy & Elliot.
The staff was friendly and helpful enough and seating was first come, first serve.
They still had some ventilation issues, but there is, in fact, A/​C.
Fortunately, it was such a delightful play that I didn’t pay so much attention to the air this time.

We went here tonight for the first time. Never heard of it. Went to see a Blank Production called the Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris. Very cute theater. Wish more people knew about it. Very intimate and classy. Not bad prices for tickets either. The stage is nice and they even had an elevator, so it is helpful for people in wheelchairs. Enjoyable venue to see another play.

It’s strange to find this small theater among the shops on Hollywood and Highland. The theater is small and intimate. I saw Pope Joan, which my bf thought was hilarious even though I am pretty sure it was a dramatic musical.
The costumes were great. The lead actors and actresses did an excellent job.
