Just had my hair cut by Rene again. So happy! As usual she diagnosis and solves my hair issues without any words exchanged. Well, there was plenty of chat about trends and my upcoming wedding, but she reads my hair like a book. Great blowout and another fun visit. My fiancé is the one who introduced me to this salon. Rene is amazing at men’s and women’s cuts. We drive 35 minutes to get there, but it’s always well worth it!

Renee gives amazing guy cuts! I’m never going anywhere else. Plus with the free maintenance my hair always looks good. That’s why I drive over an hour to see her! Totally worth it!!!

She made my hair look and feel amazing. The cozy salon is on the second floor, just up a short flight of stairs, where it gets some gorgeous natural lighting. It’s super easy, has a good vibe, and has good products. Highly recommended!

Joanne Morrison recently fixed a color nightmare and gave a fantastic haircut to a cute young girl who had been bullied at school for the mess her hair had become. No more! Now she’s back to normal, thanks to Joanne.
Cute girl is 13 now, but at 12 she started experimenting with dying her very long light brown hair auburn, then black with box color. Then in the summer she decided she wanted it bright bright blue. So her aunt took her down to a local salon that bleached her hair, leaving spots of black in it, and applied the truly gorgeous blue color. At first you just couldn’t take your eyes off it, it was such a pretty, almost-​glittery blue. The black splotches were still there, but she pulled it off anyhow. The blue started washing out immediately, however, and within 3 weeks had started to look more like seafoam green than blue. The black blotches became more noticeable. So Girl tried a box to remove color. Then she went back to the salon to bleach it again to get the color out. Black splotches remained; the hair got very dry. They told her they’d stopped using those colors because of all the problems people had been having. Too late to help her hair.
It was now a strange blond color and didn’t look healthy like a young girls’ should. It aged her, and kids at school started bothering her about it. Joanne’s been doing my hair since she fixed my box-​color nightmare 15-​ish years ago, so I took Girl to her. After examining the hair and figuring out what was done and what was needed, she applied some base color processes to the hair to even out the tone and prep it to accept the real color, then applied the real color — twice. She also did a fantastic, flattering emo-​bangs/​long layered cut that preserved a lot of length and gave Girl a unique, versatile look.
Several weeks later, the color is holding perfectly, the hair looks healthy, and the cut is growing out nicely. Joanne is a magician.

Renee consistently gives a great haircut for men (and it seems from women from the other reviews). Very stylish without looking trending or faddish, handsome cut that grows well and lasts. And she’s fun, been seeing her for years. Thanks Renee!

renee is a wonderful hair stylist… she cuts my hair gently, listens very intently to feed back and takes great care of your hair… i always feel like i’m in good hands with her. and her adorable salon is in atwater village, which seems so romantic to me…

Ezra Black is pure magic; I’ve followed her through three locations and I hope she never moves any further! My hair always looks great when I leave the salon, and the next day, and the next week, AND even six months later. Highly recommended!

Ezra is by far most one of the best! I always get very creative cuts and she always amuses me and transforms me to a new girl :) Her prices are very reasonable as well. I can’t go to anyone else except for her

Have any guys had their hair cut here? Is it men friendly? How much for a mancut?

I just got my first cut in Tlon’s new Atwater location. Only about a half mile from their old place, they’re in a cute brightly painted building and still upstairs. But now, instead of sharing a building with a realtor and antique store, they share with an acupuncturist and a facialist. I have an idea they’re about to get much busier being in this kind of company!
The new space is surrounded by trees, nestled in a cute neighborhood, and is much quieter. Parking is easier and it is overall, a more relaxed experience. Same fantastic hair cuts and service. Yay!

I’ve always had a hard time parting with cash when it came to haircuts. In the past, I’ve run into so many stylists who don’t listen carefully, or maybe just do what they want… then I’ve reluctantly handed over my dollars and left salons unsatisfied (or angry), only to drive home to re-​cut my hair myself.
Renee is fantastical. She cut my hair yesterday and I think it might just be the BEST haircut I’ve ever had! It looks great, its manageable, and she did exactly what I asked her to do. Plus, I’ve already gotten a million compliments. Way to make me feel pretty, Renee :)

Ezra is magic. Period. Her shop is in Silver Lake. I live on the westside… it’s TOTALLY worth the drive.
I have literally started carrying her cards around with me because so many people (strangers!) stop me on the street to ask me where I get my hair cut.
Just thinking about leaving LA throws me into a panic, because I know I’ll have to find another stylist. Plus she’s just a super cool chick. Highly recommended.

It’s true, Ezra is great.
I hadn’t had my haircut in a long, long time after a horrible haircut I received by the owner of a high profile salon. Which led me to cutting my own hair for a while. I took a chance and made an appointment with Ezra.
Could not be more satisfied with my haircut.
Which I must say was very reasonably priced for her level of skill.

Thank God for Unilocal.It had been a while since I’ve cut my hair. I used to go to Gamine to get my hair cut by Ezra Black so when I went on Unilocal to get the phone number for Gamine and I read a review that informed me that Ezra had left to open up the place I started to panic (I freak out with change especially when it comes to my eyebrows and hair). I started looking frantically for where her new spot was and that’s when I saw SAB’s review on Tlon. With a click of my mouse pad, I jotted down Ezra’s information and gave her a call.
Ezra’s new place is very cute. She only does appointments so you need to give her a call before visiting. I was so happy with my hair cut, which is no surprise. I’m so indecisive so I’m always grateful when she gives me suggestions for my hair, which always turns out great. I highly recommend Ezra, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Renee Adams has been cutting my hair for almost three years now, first at Steam and now at Tlon. Renee always impresses with an amazing cut and is great at encorporating my ideas into a great, managable haircut. I have reccomended many friends to Renee and they have all been very happy.
The space is small, comfortable and has a retro vibe and is a great location with easy parking for anyone that lives in the los feliz/​silverlake/​eastside neighborhoods.

Recently Ezra Black branched out on her own after leaving Gamine. I was a client of hers at Gamine for over a year and cannot imagine getting my haircut by anyone else in LA. When I found out she was leaving Gamine, I panicked… but then soon found out she was opening her own space on Rowena.
The new space is great — much smaller than Gamine, but with a very private feel to it. It’s now by appointment only and you have to call Ezra directly, giving it a very exclusive vibe. I have recommended several friends to her that have also become loyal fans, and we will continue to see her at the new location. We all wish her well at tlön.
