This is my boyfriend’s favorite place to eat tortas haogadas. The tortas are really simple(baguette, pork, a tiny bit of beans and onions.) But the pork is tasty and the baguette is still crunchy. The people working here are a little awkward. I haven’t tried anything else from the menu. Because nothing else looks appetizing. So I just come here for the tortas.

Awesome meat! On the tacos the meat was so well seasoned and fresh! I also had a torta ahogada that was delish and closest to the real deal in Guadalajara! The sauce-not the Chile/spicy, one was more of a broth than the salsa given in Mexico but either way very good– just not like it’s done in GDL. Great awesome customer service! No complaints when asked twice for two separate plates to give them a «bath» or «un bano» in the broth because they were too spicy. Very curtious.

Love the carne asada tacos… The meat is very juicy and tendered… Wish they would use bigger tortillas.

Had the carnitas torta ahogada, nothing special. I was super disappointed because it had such good reviews. Won’t be going back.

Amazing food and service, not your typical cheap mexican place… very clean, quality delicious food. We tried their tacos, tostada de pierna, and birria with hand made tortillas. Every bite was delicious. The restrooms were very clean truly felt like I was in Mexico :)

Don’t know why I never had the torta ahogada before — that’s obviously the thing to get. It’s delicious. Spicy jus-esque sauce poured over a fried pork and bean sandwich on baguette, and topped with pickled red onions. It’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve had all year. The only drawback is this: my hands still smell like it after 24 hours of washin’ and rub-a-way-bar usin’. Pinche torta! Park in the back, walk thru the kitchen. The bathroom door for the ladies doesn’t really close. Credit cards accepted.

I went to this restaurant last night for tortas ahogadas. They each cost $ 6.99. I got 2 tortas to go, and received them nicely packaged and with all the condiments and sauce needed. I have to say they were quite delicious. The tomato sauce was on point and the hot sauce was HOT! The only con about this restaurant was the service. The only thing the cashier said to me was, «Credit or debit?» If customer service makes or breaks your dining experience, this may not be the place for you. If you only care about the food, then I definitely recommend you visit and try their torta ahogada. I will definitely be visiting this place again.

Came here because read reviews of being a good spot for Tortas ahogadas. The parking is located directly behind the restaurant. You have to go through the alley. The inside of the restaurant is small but clean. They have variety of food but I came for the Tortas ahogadas. We got the deal of 4 Tortas with 4 sodas and 4 potato tacos for $ 29. The carnitas were delicious and the sauce was tasty. All around Wonderful flavor. Leaves you satisfied and wanting to return. It’s my new spot for Tortas ahogadas.

Would not recommend this place. Customer service is horrible and they make you wait forever to take a order. Once I received my food the order was wrong and they refused to fix it. WORSTCUSTOMERSERVICE. Highly don’t recommend.

The torta is good but I didn’t get enough sauce. I felt the sandwich was a bit tough.

Tasty, but plain! Friendly staff — if my dad didn’t live locally I’d frequent this place but since he does, I’ll just eat the tasty homemade tortas!

I’ve gone to this place for years and have never been disappointed! If you’re looking for a delicious torta ahogada this is the place to go. The best thing about this place is the friendly service. They are very kind people and the atmosphere is good. What my girlfriend and I get every time we are there are the tacos dorados de requeson. They are a bit small but very tasty. The prices are just right and it’s definitely worth the money.

My brother came down from Colorado and was recommended this place so it turned into our white castle… 1&½ hrs and 2 police chases later we made it… he had been longing for a regional(Guadalajara)Mexican dish called tortas ahogadas(drowned tortas), we have tried high and low to find a good one… It’s a pretty simple concept… a wet torta with spicy sauce… Yet so many get it wrong… The meat: pork carnitas, they were cooked to perfection… still moist not over fried, very lean(too much fat kills it imo) & flavorful The bread: perfect! Super crunchy outside, soft inside great for being drenched in sauce… This is where many fail. they serve it on bread way to soft to hold up to the sauce, next thing you know you’re eating spicy bread pudding with a spoon… no good… Now for my favorite… the sauce: DAAAAAAAAAAMM! On point! Not only did it have great flavor but it was hot! I mean HOT! like a little bit of liquid hell… I’m HUGE on spicy eating and I can say this tested my limits. I should have known it was hot when I ordered. Cashier: how do you want it? Me: really hot Cashier: REALLY hot? Me: yup! Cashier: oooOOOK! Man was it was hot… half way thru I kinda wanted to quit but by then my endorphins were pumping and I just powered thru it… that sauce pushed the whole meal to another level imo… good stuff… I can assure you it’ll be memorable… Fyi, the difference between medium and hot is very noticeable so if u like hot, medium might be too weak, but I’m sure you can ask for so medium sauce to water it down yourself IFYOUCAN’T HANDLE… Lol… Now I just hope I can find a local place that can match… All in all, tan perronas las tortas, very good… Although, I’m sure i’ll pay for it later…

The tortas ahogadas are incredible… super tasty and extremely spicy if you order it «bien ahogada». If you want to experience the sensation of eating one from this restaurant, then swish around some gasoline in your mouth and insert a lit match. Fire, baby!!! These are some of the best tortas ahogadas north of the border. East LA consistently has some of the best food around and this spot is a clear example. Come down to Whittier Blvd. and enjoy a torta ahogada with a couple of ice cold beers to put out the inferno.

So I was out in the East LA area and decided to try this place out that a friend of mine had recommended. I preordered because he told me that the wait time is usually a little extra during the lunch rush. When I got there I picked up my food but was a little disappointed on the size of the plates since the people having their lunch inside the restaurant seem to have larger portions. nevertheless the food was good but still lacked extra portion to be appropriate to the price. Next time I’ll try eating inside to see if there’s any difference. The thing that makes the food great, is the special sauce that they use. I’ll check in a second time and maybe change my review.

Tortas el guero is a tiny place in east los they dont provide good customer service you have to make an effort to get the waitress attention to make an order and she is also the cashier she also gave me the wrong change but got my 5 missing bucks back after i explained. The Tortas haogadas wer just ok but not wat i was expecting they wer kind of small and lacking flavor the sauce was not redish in color and more like a broth it didnt look like the ones in the picture The tacos the papa and requeson wer also just ok for the los price Now the tostada de Pata was very good and authentic slso the jamaica was refeshing and tasty i might give another try if in the area who knows

First time here and I would have never found this place if it weren’t for the good Unilocal reviews. As we had just left el mercadito due to the herd of people in line for gorditas, I had to Unilocal the nearest place with great reviews. It’s a cute small location and the line and wait was super fast. Our food was ready in no more than 10 min so that already beats el mercadito. My burrito de carnitas was amazing and also, the torta ahogada had so much flavor! We’re definitely coming back here again. Even the Jamaica was delicious. I live in whittier and will still drive out here for a torta! You won’t regret it

Estan ricas, pero todavía estoy buscando ese restaurante, donde ofrezcan mejor servicio, donde el ambiente esté más vivo y donde las bebidas se vean más antojables.
