R.I.P. Under the Table! They closed not too long ago, along with Black Maria. Last I saw they had their shelving and such on craigslist. SAD!

DONOTGIVETHISSTOREYOURART-GOODS. I had jewelry in the store over a year ago and some of it sold and I have never gotten paid. I called on multiple occasions only to hear that the owner, Zara, had to be there in order for me to get paid, or that they only pay quarterly(through 2 quarters at least). I went so far as to write her a letter gently implying an unethical situation arising and stopped by the store at least 6 times. I work at a gallery in LA and I know the importance of PAYINGTHEARTISTS who’s work we show and sell. If I had the time to go to complain to the BBB or go to small claims I would… but alas all I can do is say that I don’t suggest purchasing anything from this store because they do not pay their artists.

I really like this store. It’s small, but has a nice collection of things to look at including books and some clothes. They have a limited selection of blind boxes to choose from, but I always manage to find something I want. I recommend this store to anyone who has a list of places to hunt blind boxes or pick up cool vinyl toys and other items along those lines. Other stuff worth mentioning: The window display is always fun and attractive, they have a gallery next door that has yet to disappoint me, and the staff is always friendly. Can’t beat that.

Affordable art? By local-known names like Audrey Kawasaki? That’s pretty sweet. The art here is of a sort of young style, but it’s interesting and quality nonetheless. There’s also lots of little toys like Labbits, decals to personalize your computer, buckets of prints to leaf through, and some seriously cute sock monkey cards that go so far as to kinda make me wish I knew someone who was sick so I could send them the Get Well Soon one featuring a reclined monkey with a thermometer in his mouth and a heating pad on his head. Sigh. I have problems. Soon I’m going to be one of this people that has a box of greeting cards«just in case.» But at least they’ll all be radass.
