Good food and great service! While everything was awesome it was a bit crowd.

Oh Sangria restaurant! How lovely to find a tapas place so conveniently near by. I am taking one star off this review because some of the tapas portions are served in a minuscule amount for the price… that being said though there are some tapas that are worth it for the price. The seafood paella is great. Their meat & cheese board isn’t all that special and a bit costly ($ 13 for cheese, $ 18 for meat & cheese, $ 25 for longer aged meat) but most meat/​cheese boards are costly anywhere you go. I would probably never get it again unless I am going solely to drink a bottle of wine in a relaxed manner (sort of like the vibe of visiting winery’s in the summer) so in that sense the boards are perfect if you are going for that kind of vibe. The patatas bravas are absolutely DELICOUS! I will definitely be having those again. I tried the sangria flight which is 4 small glasses of different flavored sangrias… they tasted great. I also split a full pitcher (about $ 24 for a full pitcher) absolutely delicious sangria! — Loved the white peach one. Will definitely be returning here very soon to indulge and explore more of the menu :) Side note: I love how they offer quite a few vegetarian options… it’s very nice to see that they cater their menu to both veg & non-​veg eaters

My family and I love this place. Beautiful atmosphere, unbelievable food. Tapas are reasonably priced. We are soon moving out of Mahwah into Montclair, and we are already talking about how we will be commuting back to eat here.
Be sure to end your meal with the Flan!

Atmosphere was lively and fun. Waiter was very helpful with menu selection. Thoroughly enjoyed scallops tapas and shrimp tapas. Shared paella-​great dish to share-​seafood was fresh! Pomegranite/​cranberry sangria was a bit too sweet but enjoyed. Treat yourself to dessert-​churros were delicious. Great find in Mahwah!

Came in tonight Saturday at 730pm and had to sit at the bar. As we did not have reservations. FYI make reservations as it was busy and all tables were taken.

Sangria is bigger than it looks, because it seems so cozy. We decided on Sangria for the small plates. We had the Ironbound Shrimp (really delish), stuffed mushrooms (my favorite), a garbanzo bean dish, which I really liked, and chicken empanadas. Sadly, the empanadas were really bland, even with the sauce on the side. The bruschetta they brought out tied me over until we made a decision about the food. The plates came out very quickly, and were enough for two people to share.

Really disappointed. I love tapas places so was excited to try. Red sangria was very bad, white was good though. Empanadas and meatball apps were awful. The cod app was solid though. I feel bad cause it’s a nice place but just not tasty.

Yum! Unilocal came through again! Preholiday traffic meant we had to change dinner plans and we found this place nearby. Yummy tapas, fun drinks, amazing service and yes the flam and churros are the bomb! Sad we do not live closer so we would have the excuse to come back frequently!

our son Sam is a freshman at Ramapo College which has brought us to Mahwah this time for a chorale concert. My wife wanted something light and up popped Sangria on Unilocal.Although I have been to the deli, the Dunkin Donuts and the 7 – 11 I had not noticed this little slice of heaven. The place was buzzing when we walked in at 6:45 last night and we sat at the bar. Greeted immediately and introduced to both bartenders our night was started with the traditional sangria which was great. Two of the delicious specials and 4 tapas dishes off the menu including a cauliflower with bread crumb dish and we were just full enough to stay awake at the chorale concert we were attending at 8. Two comments, one I would prefer a spicy tomato sauce with the calamari and two is a carafe of Sangria always $ 26.00?

Honestly I thought this place has a good ambience. The selections of tapas is good. But I must say the entrees were tapa-​size as well. I am not a fan of the fact that they added green salted olives to most all of their foods, including the kids plain «paella» that was recommended by our waitress. Don’t get me wrong, I love olives, but I don’t want it in all my foods! As for price, this place is expensive. Not worth it for us to go back and give it another try

Was excited to see a tapas place nearby but unfortunately this isn’t worth a return visit. The tapas isn’t bad, just isn’t good. Plain, underseasoned and cheaply prepared. The aioli accompaniment for the salt cod fritters (which were decent) seemed like commercial mayonnaise whipped with Safron with that distinct Miracle Whip sweet taste. The moutarda accompanying skewered pork chunks (ample and decent but plain Jane) was really honey mustard. Way too sweet and very ordinary. Lamb meatballs were equally bland in a cheap sweet tomato sauce and they tasted a lot more like ground beef with some lamb mixed it.
Wine list equally cheap. Mediocre and very limited Spanish selections with some California and others. Reasonable prices by glass but it all night as well be jug wine. (How do you take a list with Cupcake on it seriously?). Exceptionally disappointing considering the fantastic selection of Spanish white and reds out there are reasonable prices.
The décor here matches the food. Chincy and very low brow. If they added a velvet painting of Jesus it wouldn’t have changed much of the ambiance here.
I sat. at bar. Bartender friendly and efficient. At lunch place was about half full with a couple large tables seemed like an employee outting from a nearby business. Don’t know but it was unacceptably noisy.
In all not terrible. But cheap and a poor example of how good tapas and Spanish food and wine can be. Prices not bad, nothing terrible but when I come back to this area of town I’ll happily skip tapas and go for pizza at Sonny and Tony.

I really like Sangria. While their sangria is too sweet for me, they have a decent wine list (most wines by the glass are $ 8-​$ 9) on top of very strong and delicious margaritas ($ 9-​$ 12 for specialty ones like the sangrita, a sangria/​marg combo).
The portion sizes there are incredible — my coworkers and I often pop over for lunch, and the quinoa salad is my go-​to. It is MASSIVE — I’ve never finished it, and it’s only $ 9, which is a steal for the amount of salad.
Lately, my coworker and I have been ordering the spicy potatoes (patatas bravas) tapas appetizer ($ 6) which we split before lunch (we typically say we’re going to be healthy and avoid the potatoes, but we cannot resist — they are SO damn good). These are probably the best I’ve had anywhere, and the sauce is superb.
The service is also good — the staff is really good about getting you in and out quickly. The décor inside is also very cute.
Overall, this is a very cute, extremely reasonably priced tapas place in Mahwah with a good selection of drinks and friendly service.

I would really love to give a positive review in support of a local restaurant… But I can’t do so in good conscience in this case.
The food here was just OK. When I can eat something and know, with confidence, I can make it better myself, I just do not go back to that restaurant.
The rice lacked flavor and was overcooked. The mussels were LOADED with sand and the clams tasted like they were previously frozen and were DEFINITELY not fresh.
My favorite food was actually just the sauce that came with the bread.
Sorry all… I hope you improve and I will eagerly come back.

We went last Friday night for the first time. The tapas options looked so good we skipped ordering dinner and just got lots of little plates.
Patatas Bravas — Crisp potato squares with paprika and tomato sauce topped with aioli
Chicken Croquettes — Crispy little fried bites that are creamy inside, served with aioli
Serrano Asparagus — Asparagus wrapped in serrano ham and cheese, served with a saffron piquillo sauce
Lamb Albondigas — Tiny lamb meatballs with tomato sauce and sheep’s milk cheese
Empanadas de Carne — Served with a sweet chili sauce
Ironbound Shrimp — Shrimp in a sauce of garlic, smoked paprika, and sherry wine.
Churrasco Gitano — Grilled skirt steak with sherry caramel sauce, piquillo peppers and little bits of fried onion.
I also ordered the mango pineapple sangria special.
There was not a bad dish in what we ordered. Everything was beyond delicious and in perfect portions to have a few bites and still share with tablemates. The portion of patatas is huge in comparison to the other tapas and we could not finish it.
Every dish was so good it’s hard to pick a favorite, but the churrasco was THE MOST AMAZING steak I have ever had. The sherry caramel sauce had slight hints of sweetness that complimented the charred outside of the steak without overwhelming it. If it was not rude, I would have licked the plate.
With everything we ordered for dinner, we had to get dessert. Freshly made churros dipped in melted chocolate were perfect bites of carbohydrate love. The sangria bread pudding was the only disappointment. The bits of fruit took away from the creaminess of the bread and custard.
We needed to find some place to have dinner on Sunday and by a vote of 2 – 1, we wound up back at Sangria. This time we tried to order less.
Chorizo Salteado — Roasted sausage with caramelized onions and diced apples with a cider glaze
Morunos Pork Pinchos — Grilled pork bites served with an apricot/​pistachio/​mustard sauce
Empanadas de Carrne — With the sweet chili sauce
Empanadas de Pollo — Served with arugula salsa verde
Churrasco Gitano — same as above and still as delicious.
Tabla Sangria — dry cured sausage, pork loin, jamon serrano, and smoked ham served with manchego, wine goat cheese, marcona almonds, quince paste and an apricot/​pistachio/​mustard sauce. We made little sandwiches with the hams, cheeses and breads topped with the mustard sauce. Fabulous.
I also had a cranberry pomegranate sangria. Delicious.
We could not say no to another order of the churros but this time we also opted for the flan. This had to be the best flan i have ever had. Creamy and denser than others I have had but in a good way. Served with caramel and strawberries. I shared a few bites then finished the rest all by myself.
Service was wonderful and very accommodating. Humberto and Nick were attentive and answered all of our questions and were great at making menu suggestions.
Next year when we are back in Mahwah, this will definitely be a place to go again.

Thursday night, not overly crowded. Super friendly staff and, of course, great sangria. Got the flight and my friend and I agreed that it was worth it.
Fast service.
Food was ok, nothing to lose your mind over.

I just got back from Sangria! My experience there was excellent.
Service: polite, expeditious, professional, and knowledgeable. The restaurant was not busy so the waiter was very attentive.
Drinks– had the sangria sampler, the white peach sangria was the best by far, i could drink a bucket of that stuff.
Main course– I ordered the pollo empanadas, carne empanadas, asparagus dish and chorizo dish. All three were amazing!!! Perfect portion sizes.
Desert– had the Spanish doughnut, it was unique and delicious.
Atmosphere– I liked the layout of the restaurant, it was decorated with many unique Spanish items on the walls. Great ambiance.
Recommendation– you must try this place! Great date spot.

Such good potatoes!!! Definitely try those. I was surprised at how large the portion tapas were, I’ve been to other places and I didn’t leave full-​here they were a good price and size.

We’ve been back to Sangria twice since my original review and everything is excellent. Our bartender was awesome, very knowledgable and engaging. The pricing concern I had originally has balanced itself out and I can say that the prices are on par with the serving sizes. I don’t eat seafood, but went with a friend who does and she said everything tastes very fresh.
Good company and good drinks, my husband, friends and I will be in more frequently! Thrilled that Sangria was able to overcome initial growing pains.

I would give this place 2.5 stars overall. While the décor/​theme of the restaurant is somewhat appealing, the food is average.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled to Spain in the past and eat endless tapas plates in Barcelona and Madrid. Likewise, I’ve also had modern tapas in Vegas at Julian Serrano’s restaurant. So I want to say I have a firm grasp of what is good and what is not. The food here is okay. It’s by no means bad, but nothing is outstanding. The restaurant claims that it’s an authentic Spanish restaurant, but it’s very americanized and far from Spanish food I’ve had in Spain and even in the city.
My table shared the lamb meatballs, ironbound shrimp, pork pinchos, patatas bravas, and tortilla espanola for starters. I enjoyed the sauce that accompanied the pork pinchos, but the tortilla espanola was not to my liking. More egg and less potatoes would have been better. It felt a bit dry. We also ordered the salmon entrée and paella. The salmon itself was not all that bad, however the sweet potato hummus, which was more of the consistency of mashed potatoes was VERY salty. It took away from the taste of sweet potato. As for the paella, I’ve had much better, even around this area.
The service was good. Our waitress tried really hard to make sure we were fine and she refilled our cups of water throughout the night. There was a mixup in the kitchen with one of our orders, but they apologized a few times about it, so nothing too serious.
With so many options in the nearby area of Ramsey, I probably won’t be making a return trip back here anytime soon.

I give it a strong 3.
This place is pleasantly surprising, it’s in a strip mall, but you do not know that once you’re inside. The décor is top notch, really comfortable, great music at a great volume, it feels authentic. We were here with 2 other couples for a friends birthday.
I started with a cocktail, my wife had the Pumpkin Spice Sangria, it was actually pretty delicious, a good amount of fruit too, it was $ 18 for a half carafe (about 2.5 glasses)
The food portions are small, even for tapas. I understand certain ingredients cost more than others (squid vs. potatoes) but it seems like there’s a disconnect on the portion size. For example the chicken croquettes, although extremely delicious were the size of larger tater tots and there were about 8 in an order, that’s $ 1 each. We ended up ordering 2 orders of that, but the cauliflower tapas which was also delicious, we barely finished 1. I do love the idea that we got to try almost everything on the tapas menu.
The paella mixta at $ 24, is meant for 2, there was a lot of seafood and chicken, but weirdly not enough rice. 6 of us got a taste of it, so it was a good deal, but still on the small size for 2 people,
Between the 6 of us we ordered, 9 plates of tapas, 1 Paella Mixto, 1 Dessert, 1 coffee, 1 espresso, 1 full pitcher of Sangria (red), 5 beers, 1 half pitcher of Sangria (Pumpkin), 2 ports, 1 sambuca and they sent over 2 after dinner drinks for my friend’s 30^th birthday. It was a decent amount of food, but with tip came out to around $ 60/​head, not too bad with drinks, but we weren’t blown away.
It’s a new restaurant, so they will figure out their groove, maybe subdivide the tapas menu into different pricing, charge 6 for potatoes and 9 for calamari, that way it makes more sense.
