Alpha Krav Maga Boston

I have been practicing at Alpha Krav Maga for over two years now. What originally began as a «hey let me try this out» has now become a crucial part of my routine. Instructors here are knowledgeable, patient, focused, and committed. They offer a safe learning environment for all ages and levels of practice. More importantly they teach you not just a martial art but important strategies to stay safe in a sometimes unsafe world. It is a a place I would recommend to all my friends and family.

I highly recommend Krav Maga training for any child. Let’s face it, children today face issues such as, lack of focus, obesity, and threat of harm in school as well as in the world. Alpha Krav Maga Boston takes each of these issues and creates solutions through building self-​esteem, control, focus, constant challenges of body and mind, obtainable personal goals, and most importantly self-​defense.
The instructors are amazing with the children. The classes are small, which allows for a lot of individual training. The instructors are there not only teaching proper technique, but safety as well. The children know what is expected of them and how to utilize the training in a real life situation.
Being a part of Alpha Krav Maga Boston has transformed my child. He is more focused, has better body control, and is more fit and strong. He is also learning to protect himself in a scary world. He knows how to carry himself in a confident way, so as to deter the common threat of bullying in school. He is also taught to be constantly aware of his surroundings to deter the threat of harm no matter where he is.
I am very pleased to be a part of the Alpha Krav Maga Boston family. I know that my son will continue to train, be challenged and build his self-​esteem and self-​awareness.

Dennis and Karen are nice people. The atmosphere is nice. I think the training would have helped my daughter learn how to defend herself from bullies.
My six year old daughter attended two trial sessions and was delighted to continue the lessons; however, due to the monthly fee, $ 150, I cannot afford for her to continue.

Both of my girls go here and they both enjoy the classes. I am very pleased with what they have learned and how eager they are to attend each class. This is a must for everyone not just women.

I trained at Krav Maga Boston at their location in Boston before they moved to Malden. I was very sad when they moved because I enjoyed it so much. Krav Maga is a practical combat system and a great work-​out. If you are looking for good exercise and/​or effective self-​defense, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
But the most important aspects of any martial arts school/​dojo are the instructors and the students. Dennis and Karen (I’m unfamiliar with the others) are wonderful teachers. They both are clearly knowledgeable and put the focus on doing things safely and with the correct technique. But they are also very personable and approachable and not once did I ever see them express anger or hostility to students.
As for my fellow students, they were almost invariably enthusiastic and friendly. One aspect of teaching there is changing partners frequently, so you get experience working with/​against people of different skill/​size/​age/​gender because after all, you don’t often to get to choose who is going to start a conflict with you. I never had a bad experience working with the other students, something I attribute in large part to the instructors, who set the tone for the whole school.

Do you want practical self-​defense and the most intensive physical workout this side of the Israeli Defense Force’s boot camp? If so, you’ll find it at Krav Maga Boston. Krav Maga, and this school, focus on the simple, practical, effective self-​defense techniques, which are continually honed and refined by the Israeli military, and passed down through Alpha Krav Maga International. The training is hard — harder than any other that I’ve taken, including aikido, judo, karate, muay thai and taekwondo, and well worth the effort. It’s also some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

I have been studying at Krav Maga Boston for less than a year, but I would like to add this place gets better everyday. Krav Maga’s self defense training is meant to get you geared for realistic scenarios, and KMB’s training is meant for those scenarios.
The instructors (Dennis, Karen and Rob) work very hard in training their students, they look at every possible scenarios and improvisations. At KMB, its a family, its not just a place you come, train and go, you are not taken for granted. After each day of your training you walk out more confident and sure about yourself. At KMB everybody is welcome for training (regardless of experience, age) but once you join, be prepared to push yourself to the limit, it shall be a rewarding experience.
Besides the regular training, KMB has special seminars (like house invasion, kick boxing etc), environmental training (training outside regular mats) and ‘women’s only seminar’ every other month and they also have special classes/​schedule for kids.

I studied at Krav Maga Boston for close to three years and I can say it was one of the best experiences of my life. I gained confidence, got in shape, and learned how to effectively defend myself in the real world. The trainers are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. They know when to take things slow and when to push you to your limits. They are very committed to making sure you learn and feel confident. Also in general the place has a great vibe. The other students are very welcoming, and the staff does a great job of creating a sense of community. I have made several great friendships through my time at Krav Maga Boston. I can’t say enough about this place.

I trained here for a year and had the best experience here. If you are willing to push yourself and get pushed, you’ll excel at this school. The trainers are top notch and will go above and beyond to help thier students succeed. I hope to go back soon and train again.

Excellent real street self-​defense classes. I went to a free trial class and was hooked from there. Some of the classes were instructed by Rob and some by Dennis. Both are down to earth but are serious about training you.
I started my classes in late March of 09 for $ 145.00 a month. The advance classes are intense and straight to the point. No katas, forms, or junk training. I also liked that parts of the classes are outdoors on mats.
Downsides:
As we all know most street fights end up on the ground. Krav Maga followthrough on ground work is get in and out. In my experience, this isn’t how it happens sometimes and you need to finish it on the ground. Since then I stuck with Jiu Jitsu at Renzo Grace Dojo in Derry, NH.
Overall An excellent experience.

This Krav gym is an awesome training spot for military, police, college kids, and anyone who feels like they may need to defend themselves in day-​to-​day life (muggings, bar fights, etc).
The trainers are varied, professional, Krav Maga Worldwide-​certified, and really care about their students.
Training is realistic and brutal. No routines or discipline drills like martial arts. If your attacker leave a vulnerable spot open, you attack it. You fight to win, not to look cool.
Military guys– this is a good base for combatives. Though it isnt the SF stuff Krav goes through (its geared a little more towards civilian situations), you can still get good weapons training.
Definitely check it out.

I was kind of lazy on doing my Boston Unilocal,but anyway, here it goes.
With the number of karate, tae kwon do, MMA, and boxing places, you ask yourself, how do I know which one works for me? Well let me just say that the other ones are like taking a class in college. You’ll probably learn something, but you won’t retain much of the information and only 1% will be able to apply it to a real world experience.
Krav Maga is the equivalent to on the job training. You learn what you need to learn quickly and you can start doing it right away.
If you want to learn self defense, the point isn’t to fight fair. You fight to get yourself out of that situation as quickly as possible. And the moves you learn definitely teach you that. Kicks to nuts, elbows to the face, grabbing shirts to choke people out. in the 2 hours of private lessons, I probably sweated as much as I did from a week’s worth of working out.
At the end of the class, we ended up going outside to practice some of our moves. Let’s just say that practicing in an air conditioned, padded dojo is probably not the ideal fighting environment you’ll be in.
And for our instructor, you can describe him as passionate for his trade, and someone you would want to back you up in a bar fight. Just to add credibility of the class.
If I lived in Boston and I was looking for something to mix up my normal work out routine and learn ways to kick people’s asses, I would definitely sign up for Krav Maga Boston.

Great facility, great attitude, and most importantly for me, just the right level of challenge and intensity to get a great workout and learn how to «get home safe.»
My review for Krav Maga Boston is coming from a unique perspective because I actually reached out to them to reserve the studio for a private session for my brother’s bachelor party. I was calling from Los Angeles, trying to set up something in Boston, and their Program Director Robert was beyond helpful putting this together.
This was the first time that they had ever put something like this together and they really went all out to make sure that my brother and all of us had a great time and learned a lot in the process. I switched times on them numerous times and was really just a pain in the ass customer (even though I was nice, there were so many variables on my end), but they just went with the flow and took the attitude of «This is your brother’s bachelor party. We’re going to make sure you guys have a great time.» If I still lived in Boston (I grew up here), I would definitely, definitely take classes here.
Krav Maga Boston has convenient parking in a bunch of nearby structures that they’ll validate for up to two hours. The facility is clean and the instructors are professional without being crazy intense (my gripe with some other Krav Maga places. I’m self-​motivated, no need for screaming and insane visuals.). They have all the standard pads, kettle bells, and there’s enough space for a bunch of groups to train together. They don’t have a mirrored wall, which many people are used to in any martial arts classes, but I don’t think that’s a negative at all because while form is important in Krav, a lot of it is about your «fighting spirit» and that’s something that they definitely instill in you.
While I haven’t taken a regular class here, they gave us a really fair rate for our event. Robert didn’t at all «price gouge» us, even though he definitely could have considering that I needed them much more than they needed me! They kept the studio open late on a weekend to put us through technique, stress drills, conditioning, and functional self-​defense movements that all of us felt great about. They also wrapped all of our hands for us and let us stay even later than we had planned for no additional charge. I’m in pretty good shape, but the guys WORKED us over there. All of us were dripping in sweat by the end, but we were smiling and we all had an amazing time — after repeatedly punching, kicking, elbowing, kneeing, and choking each other in a controlled environment. Something that was really neat was that the guys took us outside for some training on the street, which really changed our whole mental outlook on the training we had just received. Best of all, we all had a ton of fun and I think all of us will remember the combinations that we learned.
If you’re looking to get into Krav, I highly, highly suggest that you check out Krav Maga Boston. I can’t put into words how much fun we had and how much we appreciated the professionalism of the staff. Sure, we were a special event and it was a private session, but I’ve trained at the national Krav Maga headquarters in Los Angeles (where I live) and actually enjoyed my session here much more. If you’re looking to put on an event, need a unique cardio work out, or want to learn some functional self defense for you and your significant other, you should definitely give Krav Maga Boston a look!
