Econo Lodge

This is a great deal in the area. We spent $ 90 on 2 queen beds and had a free breakfast. The bathroom was working and the heat was working, the rest I was not concerned about. I was also able to connect to Wi-​Fi, which was just a plus. Sure beats sleeping in the car on a winter night. 4 stars because even though it was a non-​smoking room, you could still smell the cigarette smoke a bit. But overall I’m very grateful.

If you’re looking for something with amenities, this is not the hotel for you. However, if you want a clean, inexpensive place to sleep while visiting Boston, this hotel if perfectly fine for that. Unfortunately the front desk area is a bit sketchy and most of the hotel is outdated and worn but it is CLEAN! I stayed in Room 208 which opens to a breezeway on the 2^nd floor. There were no elevators that we could easily find, so be prepared to lug your suitcase up stairs. The windows were left open in the breezeway which made it damp and sour smelling. Also, there were NO LIGHTS in the hall or breezeway at night (NOT COOL) and I complained to the staff. We visited Boston and weren’t in our room during the day much. The sheets were clean, room and bathroom were spotless. I prepaid for my room through Southwest Vacations and checkout was less than 5 minutes. The hotel was centrally located and easy to get to, neightborhood seemed okay but since it was freezing, we didn’t walk anywhere. Overall, I will say that it was in line the price and I would stay here again if on a tight budget.

Black mold in the bathroom, obviously covered by paint but it’s now showing through. Furniture looks and feels like it’s about to fall apart. Reservation desk behind a window (WEIRD). I can keep going on and on and on… I guess it comes down to getting what you pay for but, for what we got we clearly paid too much. Stay away!

The manager here is awful. She isn’t pleasant and is rude. Please get a job you like! if you don’t like it you shouldn’t work there. I stayed here last night, because I had a flood in my studio apartment. Luckily I planned ahead and brought my own sheets, because as I uncovered the sheets on the bed there was hair all over the sheets. I pulled off their sheets and used mine. I was kind of disgusted at the bathroom, there was hair in the bathtub. Like are these maids cleaning properly??? To my surprise, I received a call at 11am the next morning basically kicking me out. I had requested a later check out with attendant the night before but apparently it was disregarded. She said she would give me half hour and that was the policy. I was awaken at 7am by guests yelling in the morning. The maids were running around cleaning the rooms making soooooo much noise. Not the best place to stay at. If none of these things bother you then be A GUEST! I later told the manager that I did not appreciate them kicking me out, UHH i did not stay there for FREEEE!!! Sorry Choice hotels but this perhaps is a hotel that you should not have in business.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Regardless of the cost (I was extremely overcharged at $ 150 for the night), I wouldn’t stay here for free. I should have just driven around all night instead of sleeping here.
I requested a non-​smoking room and was informed that there are no non-​smoking rooms at this location. The heating and cooling system had so much smoke in it that when it turned on it would spew out clouds of black cigarette smoke. Even though it was hot and humid, I had to turn off the A/​C because I couldn’t breathe when it was on.
The guy at the check-​in counter didn’t know where our room was. The grounds around the building, including the outside of the lobby and the hall outside the room doors stunk of urine. The television in the room emitted a high-​pitched whine instead of audio and was unwatchable. There was a lot of noise outside by people walking around, up and down the stairs, and being generally boisterous.
I was also informed by locals in the area that this Econo Lodge location is used by the city of Malden as temporary Section 8 housing. There were police at the location the morning of my departure investigating some sort of crime at the location. I didn’t stay around long enough to find out what happened.
Do NOT stay at this hotel, at any cost. Sleep in your car instead. You’ll be happier and better rested.

I stayed at this hotel only because on my trip to Boston I couldn’t find anything nearby for less than $ 200. This hotel was a joke and makes the top 3 list on worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. First off, it looks so much nicer on their website. What you don’t see is the smell. My room was supposed to be non-​smoking but it smelled as if someone had smoked & also smelled like dirty dog. I was really not interested in staying but since I was in Boston for only 2 days and spent most of my time out of the room, I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of paying more elsewhere and having to take time away from the city experience. Staff was not friendly, somewhat rude and not helpful. Also, no elevator! So, if you’ve got alot of heavy luggage, good luck! I would NEVER stay here again and wished I’d done better research before I even booked the room through Expedia. I’ve stayed at cheap hotels before that were better than this one. It just attracts the wrong people, staff and even the price was not cheap. I paid $ 140 after taxes & fees in June.
P.S Breakfast was just OK and their vending machines were out of order. Also, not a lot to do in the neighborhood.

This place is a dump. It smells gross and there was a cigarette burn on the bedspread in my «nonsmoking» room, which smelled like a mix of air freshener and stale smoke. It was noisy even with the windows closed, there are no good food options closeby, and I woke up with a mysterious bug bite that may or may not have been from a bedbug. Why take a chance? Don’t stay here.

Worst worst worst costumer service. No courtesy at all. Do not come to this place if you want to experience a good service and enjoy your stay. I do NOT recommend. Other than that, its up to you. IF THERE WAS A ZERO STAR OPTION, I’D GIVE THAT.

I stayed here with my first husband back in 1999. I decided to look the hotel up again because I was curious if it was still around. We had just been looking for something in the Boston area and made an advance reservation. I can still remember how dirty and disgusting the room was back then! The room was dirty, the walls were dirty, the carpet, everything — just really gross! Ever had that feeling of being exhausted from traveling but being in a room so dirty you’re uncomfortable in it? And you try to pass the night and hope you don’t pick up any bugs or diseases? That was my experience exactly!
The reason that I am posting this today is that it’s been 16 YEARS AND NOTHING HAS IMPROVED WITH THE PLACE! I told the desk clerk the next day that we wanted some kind of refund because the room and the stay were bad and we didn’t get any good rest. We were told that since we stayed in the room and didn’t check out immediately, no refund would be given.
I was far beyond pissed off and called the CORPORATE OFFICE TO COMPLAIN about this hotel. I told them about the condition of the place and again requested my refund. The corporate office told me that they couldn’t do anything, that the hotel was a franchise and it was up to that hotel whether or not to refund my money. Then the corporate office sent me a letter of apology with a $ 25 gift certificate towards a future stay at one of their hotels. We never used it because we decided to never stay with this chain ever again.

Horrible! Stay away from Malden MA… your life may depend on it! Would rate negative stars if I could. Paper thin walls, people allowed to run and scream in the halls all night long, receptionist sits behind bulletproof glass. Room was clean and receptionist was nice, but otherwise… damn!

The room was clean and small, staff was friendly. The people next door were noisy but that is not the hotel. The AC/​Heat worked well. The TV was a nice 37inch flat screen.
I had left something in the room and discovered it too late to go back. The staff went above and beyond to return it to me. I am very grateful.

Can you say «Roach Hotel»!? I like traveling with my boyfriend and seeing new hotels in different areas. And this one is gross gross gross… Me and my boyfriend saw a roach run into to tv! There was a huge one that was on the wall and ran behind the bed board. Also there was a time i was having a conversation with my boyfriend in the room and felt something on the back of my wrist got freaked out and noticed a small roach that had got on me. Worst night ever! Couldn’t sleep all night. I even insisted to my boyfriend to just spend the night in the car instead… I ended up staying up all night long with all the lights on! I was really tired but did not want to fall asleep because of that infested room of roaches. And so I spend a lot of time in the shower. Literally stayed up all night in the shower… Finally in the morning while leaving, I did complain to the manager and apparently he knew that he would get a roach problem now and again he stated because some people bring them. Maybe it’s the fact that the hotel isn’t clean and instead of assuming they’re all gone what they should do is shut down that hotel and completely wipe out the whole place, bomb it, whatever they have to do before renting out to any other people again! I don’t think it’s right for them to take peoples money and rent them a room and not have them aware of their roach problem! Please do something about this!!! I know I’m not ever going back there ever again! Oh and also because of there bug problem, me and my boyfriend were creeped out and looked around the room and noticed there was dry blood under the mattress. Like if something must of happen and they just said «fuck it, turn the mattress over»… Believe me, not worth your money or your time! I stayed in room 210! Beware!!!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, about this place is super disgusting! I realize that this is not the Hilton or the W, but still, I can’t believe this place is still in business. First they gave me someone else’s room because they apparently were illiterate and could not read the name off of my license. When I got to the non-​smoking room I was appalled, it wreaked of cigarette smoke, the bedspread had cigarette burns, and it just appeared overall to be dirty. The other hotel «guests» (if that’s an appropriate term to call them) were repulsive. They were clearly at the hotel «working» and «making money», absolutely disgusting. I even had a slight fear that I may get robbed or that someone would break into my hotel room, and I’m not one to fear the city, this place was just down right low. When it finally came time to go to sleep, I was scared to sit, let alone lay in the bed, I spent most of the night Googling the hotel and cases of bed bugs because I was sure that they had them. *I did not catch any bed bugs at this place, surprisingly, and thank god! I couldn’t have gotten out of that dump quick enough in the morning. DISGUSTING!

NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY. Malden location, not so great. People are friendly and polite. Fact is a lot of people getting weekly rates and this motel is right near the Linden Projects. But for the location and surroundings not bad. Motel 6 on the other hand is shit. Just up the road. Not bad. Clean place, mini fridge and I felt safe. Would stay here again for cheap.

I thought the people at the front desk (which is behind plexiglass) were very friendly. Coffee was watered down, and donuts weren’t very good, but hey, it’s free. Also, there aren’t hairdryers in the rooms, but I called the front desk and they have one there.
The walls were thin and I could hear the TV of whoever was staying next door. I admit though, I felt a little uneasy as I was traveling by myself. Then again, I AM a 22-​year old from suburbia. It just felt like an unsafe neighborhood, that didn’t have a lot of street lights. There were also a few cameras placed around the stairwell and lobby… I’m not sure if those made me feel better or worse. But anyway, I definitely got what I paid for! It was the cheapest place I could find that was between downtown Boston and the airport.

This is an urban cheap motel – the clientele are scary. But the front desk person I dealt with was pleasant and competent, the Internet works, and my room was clean. Even decent coffee in the morning. My room smelled stale and i was disturbed by loud arguments in the night, but I still think it was a good deal for a place to sleep near Logan Airport. I’m a woman over 50 traveling alone.

Wish I read the reviews before checking into this place.
Where do I begin? As my cousin and son drive up to the parking lot a gentleman blows us a kiss and grabs his crotch. Enough to rattle this hard core New Yorker! Also, if the counter is covered with plexi glass that should also be a huge sign to run the other way. The woman at the counter was far from nice and when I mentioned to her what happened, she chuckled. The room — my, my, my! Smelled of smoke in a non smoking room. I wasn’t sure if the red wall was really a cover up for blood. I really should have left but was so tired and figured as soon as I get up I am out, I could manage for the night. Next time I will research a bit more!

i’ll give the staff props for being super nice and helpful and what not but hollllly shit this place is a dump. it’s located in the middle of nowhere, with nothing nearby. i’m guessing malden is like the west oakland of that massachusets area – our first night there we heard people screaming at eachother and running around in the back. the cops came and kicked them out. the door was difficult to shut and there was a HUGE white stain on the carpet that we all avoided like hot lava. my friend found more stains on the chairs.
the other people staying at this lodge looked way cutty and you could hear EVERYTHING that went on throughout the building. hell to the no.

Honestly, the staff was REALLY REALLY sweet. The first guy who greeted my friend and I at the counter was very cooperative and the next guy was nice enough to provide plenty of delivery menus BUT that’s as far as I go with saying how much I like this place.
I don’t know if
made a mistake or I didn’t examine the web page close enough but this hotel was no where near where I wanted to be. It was rather in the cuts and barely walking distance to a plaza with food or any goods other than the gasoline station across the street. Not to mention my room was in the back which LOOKED creepy. I felt like I was in one of those thriller movies where I’m sure our neighbor next door was a murderer or something. The electric sockets were weirdly loose making it hard to charge things since it kept falling out. There was this large suspiciously looking white stain on the carpet near our tv that none of us did not want to go near. I later found ANOTHER similar one on the chairs next to our table.
My memory is rather fuzzy now of the place but I know for a fact I’ve experienced WAY better but I guess that’s what we get for going for cheap motels. Honestly though, never again. Sorry Econo, thanks but no thanks!
