Discovery 4

This is my favorite spot to stay in Mammoth. Close to slopes. The rec room has a sauna, jacuzzi, pool table, ping pong, foosball. This is my fourth year staying here and would highly recommend staying here. Book through Mammoth Reservations.

The property manager, name will not be discussed, was very rude and unwelcoming to our team out of los angeles california. Every Time we left the pool or jacuzzi, or sometimes even during, he would kick us out, and act like the water was a swamp. He would then continue to poor large amounts of chemicals and clean the pool for hours. As soon as we left he would stop cleaning the pool, and continue to play games on his computer. He wouldn’t permit fun because of the security covering the property and endangered all of us by allowing a bear to eat out of the trashcan. Overall, the property manager is passive aggressive, unprofessional, and unwelcoming to guests. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Discovery 4 is a solid, consistently pleasant complex for anybody who want to enjoy Mammoth without breaking the bank. I have stayed in units 150 (x2) and 123 in the past 3 years and I haven’t had any complaints. The staff at Mammoth Mountain Reservations, especially Lisa Suarez, are extremely polite and very helpful. I haven’t had to deal with the on-​site staff very much thankfully, but the game room and jacuzzi area have always been well-​maintained. We are booked to go back and stay here again for New Years, and I expect nothing but good times and great snow.

This USED to be a good place to stay but it’s not awful since Mammoth Reservations took over (
). Lisa Suarez who we dealt with was extremely unprofessional in dealing with our issue. Bottom line the customer service if you run into a problem is non-​existent, and they will make you feel bad for even raising a concern. Not a place to relax, stay elsewhere!

This is for the review of Discovery 4 unit 146 through Mammoth Mountain Reservations (MMR).
The booking process was smooth. Our keys were in the lock box at the outlet mall when we arrived after hours. Great direction was included with my keys to Discovery 4. Unfortunately, our car was not 4 wheel drive and it had been snowing that day. Long story short, we were not able to get the car up the tiny hill into Discovery 4 complex. Luckily, we were able to park along Main St. and carried our stuff in. Unit 146 was very close to the entrance of the complex community. We were lucky that the walk was short.
Condo was 1 bdrm, loft, 2 ba. Two queens and 2 twins, I believe. Kitchen was well stocked with salt, pepper, and other spices collected over the years. Linens were clean. Sadly, the heater did NOT work that first night, so the loft was FREEZING cold. I did not sleep well. I called MMR the next day and they sent somebody out to get the heater working, so at least had heat the 2^nd night.
There was something very wrong with the fireplace at that unit. We went as far as looking up the instructions for the fireplace on our phones to make sure the vent was open, yet smoke still poured into the unit instead of out the chimney. The fireplace was non-​functional.

We just stayed at Discovery 4, unit 119, which is rented through Mammoth Reservations. What a wonderful place to spend a summer vacation. In addition to all the fun that Mammoth Lakes provides, this 1 bedroom unit was fantastic. It had a well stocked kitchen, quality towels and bed linens, flat screen TV’s, comfortable seating in the living room and the dinning room, it was very clean and updated. Discovery 4 complex has a pool, jacuzzi and a club house with pool tables and wi-​fi. The Mammoth Trolley and bus stop on the Lake Mary Road, right out in front of Discovery 4, which is very convenient as we did not have to use our car to get around town. The new manager, Greg Peters (since January 2011) was friendly and helpful.

Note to reader, this is the first Unilocal review I have ever written (and may be the last), but Discovery 4 had such horrible customer service & was so disgusting that I wanted to warn all potential customers.
— This place was filthy & in violation of health codes…
1. Multiple crusty white stains on the master bedroom comforter.
2. Mucus colored blankets covered in black fuzz that were clearly over 30 years old.
3. Hair balls floating in the jacuzzi.
4. No hot water.
— The customer service was horrible & management was extremely rude…
1. When we were getting low on toilet paper we were told by management to go to the store and buy our own.
2. On the busiest weekend of the year (new years) the office was closed for new years day.
3. False accusations were made that we had too many people in our condo.
4. Management called us liars when we told them that our water heater was not working properly.
5. When we went down to the main office to exchange old towels for new ones, management huffed, puffed and scolded us saying, «you should have all come at the same time!»

I have stayed at almost every property in Mammoth, as we come up at least twice a month and never in my life have i had to deal with someone like Jeri…
Worst Management Ever. Rude, unfriendly, and completely unhelpful. I had asked if there was internet in the unit and was told by Jeri, the nasty woman who runs the place, that there was. Come to find out that the unit IS equipped with Wi-​fi but only for the owners, and that we can only use the internet in the rec room, which was down. I would have never rented the unit if I had known there was no internet. I was very upset (maybe a little heated) BUT I specifically asked about wi-​fi when i booked the unit and was told YES. Nasty Jeri hid behind the fact that they DO have internet but only in the rec room. I asked for a partial reimbursement, and was told i could have a refund and find another place to stay (it was New Years and storming… seriously?). I was just very upset that I was led to believe that we had internet, which we did, but were not allowed to use the available one in our unit. Makes no sense, and really it was Jeri’s unhelpful and nasty attitude that really got under my skin. From the beginning my dealings with her were a bit short and unhelpful…
When i first booked the place in Sept. I had to pay for 50% in the first ten days after booking. I sent it to the address of Discovery 4, which was incorrect as it had to go to a PO box. She never told me this (I have all the emails), so I had to stop payment on that check and send another one… Just a lot of trouble and not what we expected at all.
However, our unit 152, was ok. Not anything special, but clean and comfortable. The kitchen is minimally equipped, but workable…
Other than that, I would never rent here again based on my dealings with the very unpleasant Jeri.
Also, she seems to have many reviews written about her on other review sites (Trip Advisor)…wish I had checked them first!

I have been staying here since I was 10 years old. We rent a condo and drive to the slopes nearby. This place is about a 5 minute drive to Canyon Lodge, and about a 10 min drive to Main Lodge.
They manage about 20 – 30 units out of the 60 units here, so if you rent rooms from Discovery 4, you get to use the rec room. The rec room has a pool table [0.75 cents per game], a ping pong table [recommend bringing your own balls], pinball machine and a jacuzzi. There are no study tables, just benches along the wall with outlets. If you plan on doing work or studying, it won’t happen here.
The units all differ, depending on the owners. The units closest to the office can sometimes get wifi– but the others do not. This is one of my biggest gripes, the lack of wi-​fi = loose one star.
Most rooms can sleep 4 – 6 people. They have lofts with more beds, and some have washing machines as well. The kitchen and dining area is awesome, especially for families that like to eat at home. Discovery 4 takes care of the housekeeping, so everything is clean and ready for your arrival!
Some are really decked out with newly remodeled bathrooms and some are older and feel like a mountain cottage. Call and ask the office if you have preferences.
Also, before arrival, call and tell them to turn on the heater. They will warm the room for your arrival, and it’s most appreciated if you arrive late at night in the winter.
