Petco

Weird spot. I like the fact that this location is tucked away, and that it always seems empty, but service is spotty. Some of the employees (cashiers, a nice guy helping with the mice) are really friendly and helpful, others are weird and seem annoyed that an actual customer is in there. One manager in particular had a strange annoyed attitude, literally making eye contact and glaring when i walked through the door. We all have bad days, but it’s an odd way to welcome a stranger to your deserted store.

Will never give petco my money again.
We just moved to the area and during the move we thought we lost our dog hair trimmimg scissors. So we went to petco to buy some, well the scissors turned up and we figured since we had the receipt and we never opened the new ones and they were still in the packaging that we could take them back right? Wrong!
Petco I expect that if I have a product still in the packaging never opened WITH my receipt that I could get my money back. Extremely disappointed

This PetCo location is ok. For some reason, every time I come to this location it’s really quiet compared to other PetCos I’ve been to. The staff is knowledgeable and can help and give suggestions on your pet.
Though, if you go to their luv-​my-​pet service, make sure you ask for a bundle service. I went and got shots for my Husky but I was charged for each individual type of vaccination when I could have gotten a «combo» shot.

After learning that Petsmart discriminates against pit bulls, I decided to try Petco for the first time.
I went to this location for the first time last week. When I walked in I saw no employees at the registers or anywhere else in the store. I quickly found the dog section and walked around for a while seeing what else they had. After a few minutes, I found everything I was looking for and took it to the register.
When I arrived at the register there was still no employee in sight. I stood around for a few minutes waiting for someone to arrive, but still hadn’t seen a single employee at this point. Eventually there were four of us standing in line waiting to check out, we all stood at the register scanning the store and giving the international sign for «I need assistance.» I’m a very patient person, but I was seconds away from leaving my stuff at the register and leaving. I definitely didn’t feel like a valued customer and this was definitely not a good first experience with Petco.
Not only was this poor customer service, but I can only imagine how much merchandise someone could have gotten away with if they weren’t as honest as those of us who were standing in line.
I’m only giving them two stars, because they had the grain free treats I was looking for.

As far as the customer service goes this place is alright. However a large amount of the animals (reptiles specifically in my case) where sick or lethargic. Very few where healthy or suitable to be sold.
As far as the pet supplies they did have what I was looking for at a reasonable price.
However don’t buy creatures besides rescue animals they offer.

This Petco is a decent location to visit. It’s not the normal location I visit, so this was my first time coming here.
The location isn’t the best as it’s kind of tucked away, but this is sometimes a good thing because it means that it’s not crazy busy.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They greeted us when we walked in and asked us of we need help on several occasions.
The store is older, but it was clean and well organized. Plenty of items were in stock and the prices are very reasonable.
I prefer Petco’s PALS reward system compared to their competitors, as I have participated in both. I find theirs to be more rewarding, which helps me save $$$.
Altogether I was satisfied with this location, so I would have no problem returning.

Okay so this review is an error they made but speaks to their customer service which I am impressed with entirely.
We bought two «male» rats as pets from them. When we got home all was great. About 4 weeks later we realize going to change the bedding when lifting up their igloo we had a litter of rat pups 11 to be exact.
I called petco at 6:05 on a Sunday and they close at 6 but they still talked to me for about 30 min during my nervous breakdown to calm me down and walk me through what to do to care for mom, dad, and the babies.
The next day I went in they gave us a refund on the rats, a five dollar coupon, and we bought a seperate all inclusive cage for dad, a high nutrient food for mom since she’s breastfeeding, 3 things of treats and a fleece bed and it only cost me $ 12.02. They gave me lots of info and made what could have been an utter nightmare an almost enjoyable experience.
Most of my contact was with the General Manager Marion who was knowledgable, understanding, and very helpful…
Overall we are keeping and fostering the rats until they can leave mom, then taking them to the humane society or even Petco as an adoption situation.

Missy is the most helpful person if you have questions about fish! I drive out of my way just so we can learn from her about our new tank and fish. It’s so nice to have help from a person who actually owns fish and can answer all of our newbie questions with a smile and patience, in the store. She helped us (3 kids and clueless parent) successfully cycle a tank and keep our fish alive. Finally, our fish (sing like Dori) «just keep swimming, swimming, swimming,» and we know that fish can be friends, not just food. Thanks again, Missy!

I don’t know about the other reviews, but I think this Petco is great.
This pet store was the only one closest to me (Centreville) and I started going there for my cat’s food/​accessories etc. My first visit was actually incredibly amazing. I had a really bad start to the day and went there in the morning with my horrible attitude to grab some cat food. The cashier greeted me, but I just couldn’t help but ignore her because I was just so angry about everything. When it was time to check-​out, this time I greeted her because I felt terrible, then gave her a couple of coupons. She tried to help me, but the coupons didn’t work, so she handed it over to, I think the manager, and she took off more than the coupons for the inconvenience. They both had smiles on their face and I don’t know why, but I was real happy and my attitude I had before just vanished into thin air.
Their Petco is always well-​stocked and very clean. The animals looked healthy and very happy to be there. I would give this place a five, but the reason I’m giving it a four is because a couple of the workers weren’t very nice to me :(… I don’t understand… Is it because I’m this short Asian girl? Lol!

The customer service here is pretty bad, there is rarely people to check you out or help you.
But the grooming part is great! Elaine cuts both of my dogs and they love her. They always come out perfectly cut and so happy. We tried other places and my pups came out with cuts, poor babies. But we found Elaine at petco and they love her!

Go to the PetSmart around the corner in Bull Run Plaza, it is much nicer. This Petco is dark and dreary and just does not feel that welcoming. Also we had our puppy groomed here this weekend, and they did not listen to what we wanted and our lil guy ended up with a bad haircut. Will not go back here again for grooming.

Went here this morning at 11am to get some food for some of my pets. as my girlfriend and I were walking towards the store. we were like «is it closed? the website says it opens at 10am». the lights were off and there was no one inside.
I try to open the door and it opens. only about ¹⁄₅^th of the lights are turned on. There were like 2 other people in the store, but they left. so my girlfriend and I were the only two in the store. lights halfway dim. it felt like we had broke into the store. It was very awkward.
The cashier was somewhat friendly. but I don’t know why I went to this place again. I guess I wanted to give it another try. I definitely will return to PetSmart down the street. it’s MUCH better than this Petco.

As a general rule, I hate chain pet stores. Rarely are they anything but depressing, and stepping into one usually makes me want to become a screaming, paint-​throwing member of PETA. Unfortunately, for most of the D.C. area, the big chain stores are the only option.
However the manager of this particular Petco does it, it stands as an exception to this dismal rule. The store is clean, well-​stocked, and the animals living within its walls look surprisingly happy and healthy. It’s certainly not perfect — some fish on a recent visit were just this side of floating on their sides, and the staff is sometimes nowhere to be found — but the store nonetheless shines in a space where the bar is too often set astoundingly low.
