The Bread Basket offers soups, salads, sandwiches in addition to daily specials which include a hot entrée and a hot sandwich. Our signature home desserts include the ever famous White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie. Reservations and walk ins are welcome and Carry Outs are available. Pick Up window for call ahead orders.

History

Established in 1997.

The tea room was established in 1997 under the name of Betty’s Bread Basket. In October, 2013 it was sold and renamed The Bread Basket. Through the years it has become a wonderful meeting place for family, friends and business associates who desire home cooked food in a clean and friendly atmosphere.

Born and raised in rural Manchester, Iowa, my love of cooking for others became a reality when I purchased The Bread Basket. My family farms and raises black angus cattle which I proudly served at the tea room.

Food is average but definitely not worth the price. Menu is ridiculously over priced though I’m sure a small business such as this needs to up their prices to stay in business.

Nice cute place that looks fancy enough of a lunch spot.
I had the tomato bisque to start, delicious rich flavor that was good till the last tiny spoonful.
For my entrée I had the scalloped chicken casserole with green beans and some fruit bread. I was very impressed with everything on my plate. Beans were homemade and not canned, very good too. The bread was fresh and had a lot of fruit in it, wish I had two pieces since it was really yummy. The casserole was everything I wanted, it was rich, creamy, right amount of even ingredients, and that lovely home cooking flavor we all love.
They have several deserts, I got the wedding cupcake and that too was a homerun. Cupcakes are trendy and everybody makes them, but they know their baking craft when it comes to their cupcakes. The cream cheese frosting was amazing, the yellow cake mixture was perfect and didn’t crumble, and it included raspberry filling! Perfect touch!
They also take reservations, It looks like it gets quite busy. Great lunch option if you are in the area.

I visit tea rooms as often as I can in the Midwest and this one was definitely a great experience. Light sandwich and soup options, as well as a beautiful tray of desserts.
The décor is just what you expect in these kinds of lunch spots in the Midwest — shabby chic with plenty of doilies and frilly details. Can’t wait to visit again!

A great place to enjoy good home cooking and great desserts! All of the waitstaff is friendly and Betty is one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever met. In addition to dishes like Swiss Bake Chicken, and Betty’s famous White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie, you can shop around the store for décor, scarves, doll clothes, and much more! With limited seating, you’ll want to call in advance.
