Harry and David

Harry and David is back for the holidays! I was so excited when I saw Harry and David open up once again for the holidays. Alas it is only till the month of December but nevertheless this fan of Harry and David is thrilled.
They have all of our favorites there. Pumpkin scones, moose crunch, various teas and coffee… it’s all there! It’s so great to see this back for Christmas time. It’s a great spot to pick up some gifts for family and friends and also a great place to pick up something for that holiday party you maybe throwing ;).

It’s that time of year again. It’s gift-​giving season. Which means it’s Harry and David season. No matter who you are, where you work, or where you live, you’ve probably got a butt-​load of people to buy gifts for this month including your boss, co-​workers, employees, clients, friends, family, ex-​family, neighbors, Unilocal friends, that nice guy from IT, that naughty girl from accounting, Tiny Tim, Huge Harry, Daring David, and yourself.
Plus there’s all the parties … Everybody says don’t bring anything, but, of course, you have to bring «something,» right? Well, in both situations, you’ll love Harry and David. I may know how Harry met Sally, but I really don’t know when David came into the picture. All I know is this: the Harry and David store and online catalog is full of gift baskets, fruits, nuts, snacks, sweets, chocolates, wines, flowers, and plants.
Olivia Z. and me stopped in the Manhattan Beach Harry and David at the Manhattan Village Mall on our way to a party. We needed to bring something, right? The problem wasn’t finding something to take. The problem was which one to choose because they seemed to have so many tempting choices like flavored Popcorns, Bar Snack Packs loaded with nuts and crackers, Dips and Chips, and lots of other bags, trays, and platters of food.
Eager to help us was a friendly guy from behind the counter. I don’t know if he was Harry or David, but he was nice. He was quick to offer samples and even opened up packages for us to try and then gave 10% off if we purchased it. On top of that, Harry and David has a nice Unilocal Check-​in deal for a free Chocolate Truffle. Free is cool. There’s also a link on the Unilocal app to a $ 10 Coupon for purchases over $ 40.

Once again my lovely friend remembered me.
In between yesterday’s showers, I carefully followed instructions to plant 2014’s Amaryllis even though I now know the drill by heart. I closed my eyes and deemed this year’s to be pink. We shall see…

I first learned of Harry and David years ago shopping with my family at the Desert Hills Outlets in Cabazon. I appreciate this place much more as an adult now. Though the prices can be a little high, this is one of my family’s favorite places to visit when shopping for some edible treats. You can find anything here from chips and salsa, to coffee, to candy, to pretzels, the legendary moose munch, maple syrup, and really any other snack time treat you can imagine. This is always a great option if you need to find a quick gift for a friend or family member. Get in here and explore for the sake of your taste buds!!!

I used this company for the first time to send gifts to my family out of town. I had received a gift basket from my sister last year and really enjoyed it. My pears in my gift basket were rotten but I thought it was because I did not realize they were in the bottom of the basket, probably not. 4 of the expensive gift baskets I sent all had rotten pears in them. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

I ran into Harry & David tonight to get ideas for hostess gifts for the holiday season. I really did not look around because after sampling the chocolate decadence cake I ran to the register where I purchased 3 chocolate decadence, 2 lemon raspberry loaves and a cinnamon swirl. Unfortunately for them, their freezer broke so they had to sell the cakes for half price. Fortunately for me, I have a freezer full of cakes and treats for the next time I have guest over.
I did get into one of the lemon raspberry loaves tonight. It was so nice with my evening tea. It was a bit sticky, but for the price (even if it was full price) it is great for breakfast or tea time with company.
The employees were a bit frazzelled but their freezer broke and it is the «most wonderful time of the year» so they were a bit fast paced. But when I did get their attention, I got all of their attention. Some laughs and smiles too!
I left there on a sugar high! And so excited about my new treats! Now I just need to invite some people over for tea!

Tagged along with my aunt who wanted to buy the sweet pepper relish, which was on sale at 3 for $ 14. Their website requires you to buy a case of them, so we had to drive to the nearest store. Upon checking out at the register, the employee told my aunt that she could call the Manhattan Beach location and they would gladly arrange to ship single bottles in the future!
Everything seemed to be very overpriced! Even the bottles of water and juice were in the $ 2-​$ 4 range. No thanks!

This is one of my go-​to places for quick gifts. Everyone loves food. Everyone loves gourmet food that they would rarely buy for themselves.
Dips, spreads, crackers, pretzels, candy, more candy, cookies, fruit, gift baskets, coffee, tea, drink mixes — you name it. You can buy a la carte or have them put together a gift basket for you.
If you go in the evenings or on weekend they have free samples so you can taste so of their products.
Small store with coolers in the back. Gets fairly crowded, especially around Christmas and Easter.

The food is a great choice for holiday and gift ideas. Lose those chocolate covered bing cherries and moose tracks. If you have the extra spending money definitely get their fruit… awesomeeee.
However, today 2÷6÷10. 2 of the 3 staff members need to brush up on their customer service. Unnecessary attitude came from this older woman and this guy. The guy who was making rounds, only made selective inquiries to some customers and he totally passed me and I knew he knew that I was RIGHT there. I had my hand up to ask him a question and he just walked by. Thanks guy. When I did get his attention he gave off that high nose uppity attitude. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop with him and this other older woman at the counter also added fuel to the fire. I tried to be neutral with her but her unprofessional stare and short sharp answer bursts were obviously off putting. Fortunately, the 3^rd staff member this younger woman intervene and was really nice. I shook my head and she rolled her eyes.
So, just watch out for the sometimes bad customer service. Come on H&D you guys should know better than to do things like that. Here’s your sign—

Save the cost of shipping and come to this location. Unless, you’re buying it for someone far away. I know, it looks better in the catalog, but if it’s for yourself or for someone locally, you just can’t beat it coming over here. And I have to agree with the other reviewers, their pears are delicious! Especially, if you dip them in milk chocolate.

I’m a bigger fan of the site than their store in Manhattan Village. Their site is extremely intuitive and easy to use, it only takes a couple of clicks before you’re asked to enter in your personal message and credit card details. I can’t tell you how gracious that thank you call is after you send someone a Harry & David gift. If you’ve never seen a Harry & David gift tower, you especially need to check it out. Your gift recipient receives a wonderful gift that is beautifully wrapped with care and attention.
I really believe that the only reason my mother-​in-​law can stand me is because I send her Harry & David’s delicious pears every Mother’s Day and Christmas. It only takes a couple of minutes of effort and a swipe of your card, but it comes off as much more than that.

Sending a Harry & David gift is the best way to show someone you care about them when you don’t actually care enough to get them a real gift.

ok, i agree– their pears DO melt in your mouth– delicious!

I stop by this place every once in a while because (1) I have a friend who loves their Moose Munch popcorn, and (2) they constantly have sales going on that grab my attention. I’ve tried many of their offerings, and it is good but pricey. You know the place is overpriced when even at 30%-50% off, you think, «Well, maybe we should keep looking elsewhere.» In the current economy, I wonder how long this place can keep going. During the Christmas break, they had so much inventory that they had all these cardboard boxes (filled with snacks) stacked up everywhere. You could barely maneuver through the store. It was like a bunch of kids were setting up forts or something.

I have to admit their Royal Pears are out of this world and for these it’s worth the price. I thought the other fruits were good but not worth the retail price IMHO.
I’ve once gotten my folks a 12 month fruit of the month club package and comments on various fruits were that they were just ‘ok’. I’ve tried oranges and apples as well but the pears were the best things.
The chocolates were pretty good as well, especially the soft truffle thing (Sorry, I don’t speak chocolate, all look the same to me but that soft thing was very addictive).
I like their gift baskets as well; I don’t know what it is but can help lift your spirit (and is memorable).

Excellent store! I *LOVE* this company and their chocolates, fruits, and coffees. Ever since I discovered their truffles and coffees a few years back, I will stop by whenever I am close to one of their stores. Their Moose Crunch decafe (whole bean) is excellent and I wish they have decafe tiramisu coffee beans too.
