Rented a room for a 3 month lease, the situation was good until I asked for my deposit back. It has been 8 weeks and Polly states she is not able to pay me my deposit back at this time and will need to send me payments. Still have not received any deposit back, and she will not provide me with a timeline on when I will receive it.
Please avoid due to the financial irresponsibility.

Completely agree with the other one star reviews. Walt (as in Disney) and Polly are complete nut jobs and scam artists.
I responded to a Craigslist ad for a one bedroom apartment where I would be the only tenant. When I met with Walt to see the place I was told the fee to move in would be $ 600 (above and beyond deposit and rent) for their services of posting the ad, running a credit report and background check. $ 600 seemed extremely expensive, but I really needed the place. Walt’s behavior was erratic and he appeared to be on a good one. I will never forget his crazy eyes. I wrote the sketchy behavior off because I was relocating from out of town and was starting a new job in 2 weeks. I didn’t have a lot of options and I figured I would never have to deal with him again.
In hindsight, I should have asked the landlord why the fee was $ 600, but I never did because I desperately needed the place and was working directly with these kooks during move-​in. I wonder if the landlord even knew about it? I was promised a copy of my background check and credit report which I never received (SHOCKER!) Also, I thought it was strange I had to write them a check directly to Polly (not a business) and deposit it directly into their bank account same day.
After a few months of living in the apartment, I realized that Polly and Walt were best friends with my upstairs neighbor. And everything started to click — This neighbor engaged in activities such as smoking meth and soliciting prostitutes. I know it sounds unbelievable, especially in Hermosa, but this should give you an idea of the company they keep and the people they are. I have absolutely no idea how this couple continues to operate in the South Bay, eluding the law.
I was so thankful to move out of that apartment when I was able to.
Avoid at all costs.

I don’t understand all the negative reviews. I have known Walt since 1989 when he found my very first roommate. And his mind is like a computer; he still remembers her name 20+ years later. A couple of times when I’ve gotten a roommate on my own, it didn’t have a happy ending. Walt has always matched me with good people and is well worth the money. (Having a bad roommate is hell.) Once when I paid Walt and ended up getting someone on my own, he found my next roommate for free since I had a «credit» with him. I don’t know how keeps most of the names in his head, but he does. And recently I referred him to an acquaintance and he got her a perfect roommate in just a couple of weeks, which saved her money since she now had someone to share the rent with.

Walt did a great job finding the perfect person to rent a room in my house.
He has done this for 3 times over the last 25 years and always found the right person.

Avoid these guys at all cost, including Polly. They charge potential renters $ 195 for a credit and background check! Ridiculous. They post advertisements on craigslist without notifying potential tenants of the fees, talk up the places, then throw the $ 195 curveball at the last minute. No thanks.

Scammers. Took a check for deposit, cashed it in hours, then attempted to change the terms of the lease when I met to sign.
Avoid these people (aka Polly, also on coke)

First, the 5 star reviews for this service are obvious fakes probably put up by Walt himself. I’ve spoken with several people who have had similar experiences as I did with this guy, hence the following:
I will never use this service again. I paid Walt $ 150 in cash (first mistake) to help me find someone for a room I was renting. He sent two referrals in the first week that were way out of the criteria I had requested. I found someone the following week on my own, so I requested a refund. He flat out refused to give me even a partial one. He insisted that it was a «retainer» fee and that I could call upon him later if I needed another roommate. I didn’t agree to this «business proposal» but he still refused to refund any of my money.
About a year later I needed to rent out another room, so I called him to see if he would make good on his promise. Surprisingly he did remember me, but he didn’t send a single referral in two weeks. Again, I found someone on my own and was still out my payment to him.
The bottom line is that he did not deliver on anything he promised, and kept my money for doing absolutely nothing. He lost all future business from me including referrals and also earned my first 1-​star review. The only way he could redeem himself at this point would be to refund my money. I’m still open to that idea, Walt.
