Specialties
I specialize in developing individualized Pilates/Yoga based programs for women, baby boomers, and the elderly. I am focused on helping my clients become and stay fit as they age. Creating a mindful fitness practice that restores health, energy, and vitality.
I have an individual practice for working one-on-one and maintain group practices at both the 92STY and the MSCL geriatrics center at Mt. Sinai hospital.
History
Established in 1997.
I certified in the classical Pilates method in 1997 and set up my studio in the Upper West Side to teach privately. In 2001 I started the Pilates program at the 92STY and continue to teach there. In 2008 I began working at the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai hospital. MSCL specializes in applying alternative modalities to their elderly patient population. I received a grant to develop the first Pilates program at the center and currently am involved in a pilot trial study investigating the impact of Pilates based movements on improving balance and reducing the risk of falls.
Meet the Business Owner
Alicia P.
Business Owner
I am a second generation classical Pilates instructor trained by first generation master teacher Romana Kryzanowska. In 2001 I obtained my teaching certification in Hatha Yoga and incorporate these elements into my teaching style. My interest expanded from one-on-one training to also teaching group classes in the Pilates method and have been doing that at the 92STY for the past eleven years. My research into the phenomenon that the New York Times called «Boomeratis» and our aging bodies led me to my work at the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai over the past four years. Having worked with the geriatric population at Mount Sinai, I understand how aging and the lack of exercise negatively impacts the individual. I focus on developing mindful approaches that will delay physical deterioration and maintain functional independence as long as possible. My goal for my clients is to maintain a higher quality of life as they age.
