NYSC

Probably the worst gym (especially this specific location) you can find in NYC.
I wish I could give them no star, because they don’t deserve not even one star.

This place is awful but not due to the staff or facility. For some reason, this location attracts a ton of elderly people who use the equipment as their personal park benches. They claim a piece of equipment and then sit on it for what feels like hours, staring into space, not allowing people who actually came to work out to do so. It is incredibly annoying. Also, all the old men wander around the locker room naked like the walking dead and they splat their nude butts right down on the benches where you may have just had a backpack or a clothing item placed, and sit there talking on phones, etc. One idiot was clipping his fungus toenails and tossing them all over the floor. Seriously?
The young people here are no better. They get in a piece of equipment and take out their phones and start having a good old fashioned texting party. Maybe a rep or two here and there, but they are mostly there to sit and text. Unreal.
Also, they are always having towel shortages but that is nothing compared to their total pig clientele.
I only come to this location anymore when I absolutely have to. Life is too short.

Compared to the other NYSC locations in Manhattan, this one is by far my favorite. I should state the obvious: NYSC isn’t equinox, and for those who like to shower at the gym, NYSC is not really your best bet. However, if that isn’t a concern, this NYSC location provides everything a casual gym-​goer would want, including a wide variety of clean, new machines. I look at NYSC as a minimalist gym that does the job very well, and would especially recommend this gym to anyone that lives nearby. If locker rooms are of great importance to you, you can always look to equinox, but it’s going to cost you big time.

Showers are dirty
Bathrooms are also dirty
½ of the Upright bikes are broken
The weight rooms are ok
But my biggest problem is the cleanliness of the men’s locker rom. It’s gross despite complaining a few times.
Canceling my membership

This NYSC is probably my favorite location. It was the most convenient location for me also because I went to Hunter College. I didn’t even need to use the lockers there in the summer. In the summer I would take dance classes at Hunter and then change, put on my sneakers and take a jog down to this gym. Perfect! Cardio to start up my weight training routine! This location is clean with friendly trainers and great customer service. They also have all the amenities you would need. After everything I would take a shower and head back.
This NYSC location is large with cardio machines near the first floor and weights on the 2^nd and 3^rd floor. They also offer a variety of classes such as spinning classes, kick boxing and more. Always check their schedules online!

Location, Location, Location.
This NYSC location is a superior place for runners who want to go to Central Park and run.
The primary reason to come here is simply to use the mens locker room and shower before and after your run.
Put on your running shorts, shirt and go outside and enjoy Central Park.
Meetup with the NYC Niketown runners on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
There is a deli next door that after 7pm that the sushi and salad bar is ½ price.
The mens /​womens locker rooms are in the basement. It can get busy, just like all Manhattan NYSC locations afterwork.

I love this gym. It’s my home gym. Everyone is super friendly and the instructors are all great. It’s crowded bc the classes are awesome. It’s a smaller version of 86 street. It’s also the first stop from all the shitty NYSC’s in Queens. 59 Street NYSC is my second home. If you work out here enough, you’ll understand why I love it so much. All the instructors are caring and willing to answer any of your questions if you’re new to the gym.

This place is unpleasant and unprofessional. The staff blurted out that I am distracting and difficult because I was working out 10 feet away from her client. (First I thought she had a tourette syndrome because she kept dropping some words that I couldn’t hear, but it turned out she didn’t.) When I asked for her name she mumbled something inaudible rolling her eyes, looking exasperated. When I reported the incident to the equally unprofessional and unfriendly manager, he merely told me that he’d have to investigate the situation. I called the corporate office about it and the rep just told me that they just fully rely on their location manger to handle any complains from the members. I quit the gym. I tried Equinox, Crunch, Strive and 24 hours fitness center in the area, and believe me, any of these gyms are far better than this NYSC. It’s not worth to be harassed by some thugish personal trainer after a long day of work in midtown.
