Sonia’s Brows & Waxing

The first time I went to Sonia… she literally worked a miracle on my brows. I looked like a brand new person. she somehow made my brows look thicker, fuller, and have more shape than when I went in. & that’s without any makeup tricks– just the wax. I would’ve given her 5 stars EXCEPT… the second time I went. Lord, have mercy.
She seemed like she was in a bit of a rush but I figured everything would be okay. When I got there she had on her jacket and a hat and she never took it off when she started doing my brows. She rushed through the process which was making me nervous because my brows are odd and it’s really important that the person handling them is VERY careful and pays attention to the detail (like she did the first time)… I knew something was off when she kept plucking away after waxing. going from one brow to the other… steady plucking. Then… before letting me see my brows, she literally pleaded with me to let her fill them in (with makeup) telling me it’s all a part of the service. I personally do not like the filled in look on myself so I said «no» the first time but after she asked me two more times, I agreed.
She began to fill them in and then when she showed me the final product… I looked like Dracula. Not that her filling work was bad– but like I said, I hate the filled in look on myself. So I kept the makeup on my brows (despite scaring small children) until I got back to work where I promptly wiped off all the brow makeup. Lo & Behold! No WONDER SHE BEGGED ME TO FILL THEM IN… They were completely JACKED UP, uneven, one thicker than the other… a complete rush job. I wanted to cry. It was a totally different experience than the first time. I spent the next two months regrowing my brows.
I debated about whether to give it 2 or 3 stars… but for the sake of the benefit of the doubt… maybe she was just having an «off» day… so I’ll give her 3 stars since the first experience was spectacular. However– don’t think I will be risking another visit. The experiences were too extreme of a difference.

Awesome experience with Sonia. She is so sweet and also took the time to ask what I wanted and to show me what she was doing with my eyebrows. Office was comfortable and clean and the wax room was private so not everyone is looking in your face as you’re getting waxed.

Sonia is the sweetest lady. She takes her time to measure your brows and make sure they are perfect. She is professional and clean. I would highly recommend her!

I found Sonia through Unilocal (of course) and I am so glad l did! One thing that separates her from anyone I have gone to is she listens, and she listens so very carefully as to what the client wants. I’ve been trying to achieve thicker brows but brow artists I have went to before her always seemed to have their own agenda.. I would leave my appointment and the growth I worked so hard to get was then gone and I was back to square one (even though they still looked good I wanted a more softer arch). Right when I walked in Sonia asked me what it is that I wanted and instead of just putting on the wax she allowed me to watch in the mirror as she outlined what I was looking for. She was on point with what I’ve been trying to achieve for a long time which is why it’s more baffling to me that it took me this long to find and get to her lol. I’ll be checking in plenty more. I am going to preface this by saying, I never ever do reviews but my experience at Sonias definitely warrants one. My eyebrows have never looked as good as they do now and it’s because Sonia is a master at her craft. The other raving reviews do not exaggerate how great she is. She was both courteous and very sweet the entire time. After having an awful experience elsewhere (the woman literally took a chunk of my skin with the wax), I was nervous to get them waxed again but my experience with Sonia has definitely changed any and all ill feelings I had. Yes, she is pricey but unlike many other places, she does not push you to come back in 2 weeks or buy other products or get other services. She’s fair, honest and is amazingggg at her job!

I’ve seen Sonia for about a year now and I still leave her office blown away and feeling fabulous! I go away for college and I don’t come back for three months! Every time I’m back in the city I make sure to give Sonia a text to make an appointment with her. She’s always flexible! Sonia is an expert at what she does, she doesn’t overarch my brows or leave them super thin! She encourages me to keep them thick and natural to my liking. I used to get really itchy and have little pimples when I went to cheap asian salons to do my brows but with Sonia I don’t get itchy or have little pimples when I get my brows done. $ 30 is pricey for brows but it’s totally worth it to see Sonia because she’s knows what she’s doing and she actually listens to what you want! Sonia has such a big heart and she loves what she does!

If all of these other amazing reviews haven’t convinced you, I’m not sure you can be convinced of anything.
Simply put, Sonia is amazing. My brows were tore up and mangled from the other random waxing/​threading spots and I’d spent the past couple of months just letting them grow wild and be free. Slightly embarrassed at the state of state of the caterpillars that had taken residence on my face, I decided to give Sonia a call. I was nervous that she’d see the state of my brows and scream, but she was so excited and said I had a great pair of sisters (because brows are sisters, but not twins) to work with. She was fast, astoundingly pleasant and made great suggestions for keeping my brows in shape. She didn’t try to sell me anything, and didn’t encourage me to overdo it and come see her every other week. I walked out with brows that looked liked perfection. She’s awesome. Like phenomenal. I don’t think it gets much better. Stop debating and book! You won’t regret it!

It was my first time going to Sonia and I was a bit nervous because eyebrows are everything! But like the other reviews say she is very sweet and welcoming. She has a great personality and she is very professional. She explained every step she was going to do and even let me watch while doing my eyebrows. She provides you with helpful tips on how to maintain your eyebrows and asks if you are happy with the finish look. I will definitely be returning back to her.

I visited Sonia two weeks ago and she’s absolutely amazing! With that upbeat personality makes her even more adorable. She took great care of my eyebrows and educated me of eyebrows. I’d recommend her to anyone who’s looking for eyebrows waxing treatment with great care. She’s a real sweetheart!

Life changing brow experience ! Very expensive but worth it! You will learn how to grow hair where you have trouble and how to properly fill in your brows. Even if you can’t go all the time. It’s a good treat every now and again !

I found Sonia’s Brows & Waxing via Unilocal of course. I scheduled an appointment for Brows w/​Sonia. Where have you been all my life, seriously. (Well for the past 4 years… I’ve been on the search since my previously brow lady left where she work and I lost all my contacts)
My whole entire life I never had anyone whom I had a conversation with over brows. I mean normally you walk into a salon you tell them wax and they just do it. (but it’s not like they listen to what you want and put their input in it either)
But Sonia is beyond amazing! She asked me what I wanted and also spoke her opinion in regards of brows. What to do and not to do. Even showed me how to pencil in my brows etc…
$ 30 for brows pricey but money well spent.
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Sonia is a beautiful soul. Not only Is she passionate about brows, she cares about you.
I came to her office, a late and anxious hot mess. Yet, she greeted me with a smile and warmth of a friend from years ago.
She explained my eyebrow potential, showed me points of where my brows should start and end. She then showed my how thick and fabulous my eyebrows could possibly grow in (eyebrows Gods please let it happen)
She then waxed and tweezed and shaped my bad boys up… But then I was told to return in 4 – 6 weeks
I was like «what the what now» you want me looking ratchet in the streets???
But she assured me it will with out and that it is a process. She said it with such passion I totally trusted and believed her.
So on to my grow out eyebrow mission…

Wow! Not only did I leave with brows I was happy with, but I just met one of the kindest, sweetest souls I have EVER encountered!
I found Sonia via Unilocal and I’m so glad I did. Since I only moved here a few months ago, I hadn’t found someone I trusted to do my brows yet.
Now that I found her, I won’t be going to anyone else (and I live next door to a salon in Brooklyn).

I’ll preface this by saying I am married to my brow lady back in Florida but since I dont live there anymore I have to find someone else in NYC that can do the same. I Unilocaled search and came across Sonia’s Brows and Waxing. In a city that prefers threading, I was so happy to find someone that actually offers brow waxing as their primary service.
I called to make an appointment and when we spoke over the phone Sonia was very nice and friendly and to me it seemed like she said she could see me same day. I confirmed over the phone and she said yes. I arrived that same day for my scheduled appointment and Sonia was friendly but confused why I was there– apparently we got our dates mixed up but she accommodated me nonetheless.
She took her time to explain where she was placing her guides and asked whether I preferred arched brows or to follow my natural shape. Pretty painless as far as waxing your eyebrows + lip goes. She asks if youre satisfied and makes sure you get what you want.
Cash or cards accepted. It is 30 $ plus tax/​surchrge if you use her credit app. Im not used to those prices for a brow wax (man my brow lady in Florida is undercharging– please dont tell her that haha!) but it was worth it as she did a nice job.

Came in with my eyebrows looking crazy left with the perfect brows. Sonia is so welcoming, feel like I knew her for years.
Atmosphere is mellow & professional. No loud talking, which is a plus for me.
Sonia goes by appointments only ! So make sure you call to book. I booked like an hour before my appointment & secured a spot right away. Maybe it was my lucky day. I’ll def call a day before.
She takes her time with you & also asks you how you like your eyebrows. Which is good for me because I’m very particular about my eyebrows.
I love my eyebrows & will be returning !

I really love Sonia. I found her through Unilocal,when I hit a point in my life where the $ 8 nail salon eyebrow wax (no thank you ma’am, I don’t need my lip waxed too) wasn’t going to cut it.
Her office is in a building smack in Herald Square/​right by K-​town, so it’s easy to access. Sonia runs her own business, so she can be super flexible with appointments, which I appreciate.
It does cost $ 30 for an eyebrow waxing, which is admittedly quite steep. But she is the kindest person, and is also so professional and warm. She is from the school of Anastasia, and uses measurements and stencils to CRAFT a beautiful brow for you. And the best part about it (which is why I don’t mind the $ 30), is that she told me, «you know, if you are fine to clean up your brows in between, you only need to see me every few months.»
WHAT?! You mean you don’t want me to come back every 2 – 4 weeks to give you my brunch money?!
She also plays relaxing music, gives you water and candy, and takes her time with you, including showing you what she’s doing and filling in your brows at the end, so you can see how they’ll look when they’re full. I have pretty full brows but never realized what a difference they can make on your face, and also what a disservice I was doing them by over-​tweezing!
If you’re ready to change your face for the better, start growing out those caterpillars and make an appointment to see Sonia, stat!
