Specialties

–We assist students in grades PreK-​12 in all core subjects including English, Math, Sciences, History and Foreign Languages.

–We offer Standardized Test preparation for the following: ERB, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, AP exams, SAT IIs, SAT, ELA/​Math State Exams, and NYS Regents.

–We offer Academic tutoring in the following subjects: English, Math, Sciences, History & Foreign Languages

–We have tutors specifically trained in Special Education who can assist Special Needs students in developing the necessary skills to learn in a productive way. We help students become more confident and comfortable in their school setting.

–We offer assistance to children who are home-​schooled. Our tutors are available to work with individual students and their specific home-​school program.

–Additionally, we offer tutoring for college students in all subject areas.

–The Study Shack offers sessions with students at our Upper East Side and Tribeca locations, or in your home

History

Established in 2002.

The Study Shack’s tutoring team is comprised of a group of collegial individuals working well together, and individually, to enhance each student’s understanding of the material at hand. Our tutors have graduated from colleges such as NYU, Columbia, Hunter, UCLA, and Johns Hopkins, with degrees in Early Childhood Education, Elementary and Secondary Education, and Special Education. They address specific learning differences in each student, providing individual attention and focus. They strive to help students succeed in school. Our tutors offer one-​on-​one sessions in our Upper East Side and Tribeca locations, or in your home.

Business Owner

The Study Shack is owned and operated by Janie Teller, M.Ed., who holds three teaching credentials from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

–Multiple subject teaching Credential

–Single Subject teaching Credential (social science)

–Credential in Special Education (Severely Handicapped children)

Janie has a 25-​year background in regular and special education. She has taught at the elementary and secondary levels in both public and private schools. She has served as a learning specialist, working with adolescents challenged by learning and/​or emotional issues. She has also worked as a Studio Teacher backstage on movie, television and Broadway sets.
