UWS Kenshikai Karate

I can’t stop talking about UWS Kenshikai Karate. When parents ask me where I send my kids for karate I tell them they have to go here. My kids not only love going to class they truly enjoy being proud karate students of UWS Kenshikai Karate. Kyoshi Jennifer is so talented and incredible with teaching kids of all ages. She has patience and knows how to approach each child and their individual learning levels. Kyoshi Matthew teaches the older kids. From my observations, he commands the room and every class he teaches the students respond well. Sempai Rufino and Sempai Adri are excellent additions to the dojo. They encourage their students to be better and be stronger with each lesson. My kids have grown stronger and more confident with each class. All of the instructors are extremely qualified and know how to make learning karate not only practical but lots of fun. There is no other choice.

Top notch instruction in traditional karate and also Brazilian JuJitsu plus a great, supportive learning environment makes Upper West Side Kenshikai Karate a great value. From kids to senior citizens, this is a great place to learn how to defend yourself, conquer fear and get in great shape. Highly recommended!

My 5 year old son loves going to Kenshikai karate. He had never liked any other classes he had taken and now talks about karate and Sensei Jennifer all the time. The school is small and laid back so my husband and I love it too.

My husband is into martial arts. So when it came time for our son to learn the discipline he defenetly picked the right dojo! I’m happy with his performance and with the teaching. UWS Kenshikai is just about the best dojo you could ever hope to find. Disciplined but also fun, the dojo is an environment where those who want to take karate seriously can thrive, while those who want to go at a lighter pace can enjoy themselves. I started out at UWS Kenshikai knowing absolutely nothing about karate. 3 years later, I have the confidence I need to walk down a dark alley at night, as well as increased discipline that benefits me in all I do. For those wishing for an intense karate experience, UWS Kenshikai’s sparring classes are hard core (though never out of control). But you don’t have to spar to have fun at UWS Kenshikai. Senseis Matthew and Jennifer are both excellent teachers and manage to turn what would otherwise be an hour of strenuous physical exertion into an exciting and genuinely pleasurable experience. Plus, the community of people who go to UWS Kenshikai is excellent! You get old, young, and everything in between. It’s an accepting and friendly environment. I would recommend UWS Kenshikai to anyone who wants to get a great workout while boosting self-​confidence and learning excellent physical and mental discipline. It is, simply put, the best.
