The Museum was built in 1895 by a French Priest as a private residence for he and his mother. They returned to France in the 1900’s. The Sister’s of Mercy then ran the Castle as a Sanitarium for patients with Tuberculosis. They did this until 1927, when the Castle transitioned into a retreat and vacation home for the Sister’s of Mercy. in 1946, the Sister’s sold the Castle to private investors who subdivided it nine apartments for returning soldiers from world War II. during the ensuing years the Castle changed hands 11 different times and suffered a great deal of damage. The Historical Society purchased it in 1976. Thousands of hours of volunteer labor have gone into restoration.
Our mission is to preserve and restore the architectural integrity of Miramont Castle Museum and to provide educational experiences and resources on the history of Manitou Springs, its indigenous people and artifacts.
We invite you to join us and experience life as it would have been in Victorian times, from the Castle itself where you can view 33 rooms resplendent in authentic Victorian furnishings, to artifacts which can be viewed in our Firefighter Museum, Spoils of War Exhibit, the Nurnberg Trials Exhibit and our Local History room. You may also visit The Queen’s Parlour Tea Room where you can enjoy a traditional Victorian Tea.
