Shaffer Bend Recreation Area, with 523 acres, is one of LCRA’s largest recreation areas on Lake Travis. The terrain, ranging from bottomlands to bluffs and hills, makes for good hiking.

The undeveloped recreation area is good for camping, but campers should be aware that there is no potable water or electricity. There is one portable toilet in the camping area and one waterless restroom at the entry of the park.

Unimproved Camping: Open range primitive camping available by reservation. Limited number of picnic tables, fire rings and grills are available.

Make reservations online at www​.lcra​.org/​r​e​serve for a $ 6 transaction fee per site, or call toll-​free 855−392−7638 for a $ 7.50 transaction fee per site. Reservations must be made more than 48 hours in advance of arrival. Facilities get booked quickly during spring and fall, and over holidays, so make reservations early to guarantee a site. To check availability within 48 hours of your arrival, call the park directly.

Prior written permission shall be obtained from LCRA for any organized group activity on LCRA land involving 20 or more individuals.

History

Established in 1940.

The park historically was part of the Shaffer Hood Farmstead and the Meredith Farmstead, both which were documented as being settled in the early 20th century. The tract was acquired from Boyd Heffington, et al.
