Shake Shack

This is the midpoint on our trip home, we have now found the MUST stop for any meal. The Tacker family that owns/​works/​runs are nice folks. The food was excellent. Everyone, my wife and all the kids (12, 9, and 4) all want to come back for breakfast already. Thanks Big John’s Shake Shack.

Excellent service and burning love burger. I splurged and had a piece of homemade pecan pie with ice cream. They even warmed the pie. The owner came out and visited for a while. Great place to eat. I will definitely return the next time I am in the area.

We finally got an opportunity on a recent Saturday afternoon to try this little gem. Truly a throw back to the old Mom and Pop malt shops.
We opted for the mushroom Swiss burger and the meat maniac (aptly named, it even had a sliced hot dog on top). Both were served fresh off the grill, piping hot and delicious! I had to give the chocolate malt a try, rich, thick and very chocolatey!
We will definitely be back to try the delicious looking pies…

Great spot to grab a bite off the freeway! Drive the extra block and get some homemade soup, burgers and deserts.

Visited this place on the way home from a weekend trip to Little Rock. This is a fantastic little family run restaurant that is decorated in nostalgia. It wasn’t that busy when we stopped by but it seemed like there were still quite a few locals that stopped by while we were there. We weren’t quite hungry for dinner yet so we got desserts. I had an oreo shiver and it hit the spot. This is a great spot to stop and get a bite to eat while traveling or if you live in the area. I definitely want to try one of their burgers next time in addition to a dessert.

Their burgers are soooooo good. The atmosphere is cool and really local themed. Employees are friendly, and for 10 – 12 dollars you can easily get full.

Great catfish, fries & slaw on Fridays! Cooked & seasoned perfect. Not greasey at all! The homemade shakes are very delicious also!

Certain things just go together: Peanut Butter and Jelly, Biscuits and Gravy, Floyd Mayweather and Gambling. While most quickly pair burgers and fries, the combination that is every bit as familiar, dating back to the American Graffiti drive-​in days of the ‘50s & ‘60s, is burgers and shakes, the focal point of Big John’s Shake Shack. The best things are always timeless.
In Marion, the Shake Shack is a stronghold. According to one reviewer, the restaurant was once only open on weekdays, only recently opening on Saturdays, with proceeds going to fund Christian mission trips around the world. I’d planned on visiting while I was in the area anyway, but knowing that fact made the scheduling simpler. I would be visiting on Saturday and eating well.
This is one place that revels in its uniqueness, the walls and counters adorned with memorabilia from Coca-​Cola and Elvis. It is right next to Memphis, after all. Walking through the doors is like stepping back in time, just for a moment, to a simpler time without the skewed priorities and frenetic pace that tends to negatively impact everything that is said and done in 2015, no matter where you call home. It is a nice change of pace for those who seek such things.
The food itself is what you want in a burger and shake joint: Large portions, good prices, cooked properly. Keep it simple, do it well, bring people back. It’s the business model of everything when it is done right. I can see why the place is so frequently packed. In fact, we managed to find the only empty booth in the house at 1 PM. As busy as the Shack may be during the week, the Saturday-​only burger menu is a thing of beauty to a carnivore. The only problem is narrowing down the choices, even when room has been saved for at least two.
Each burger is offered in two sizes, medium and large, ¼ and ½ pound respectively, but even the medium version of these specialty burgers are sizable. Big burgers are not hard to find, but excellent flavor combinations can be troublesome when restaurants start getting courageous. Fear not. Shake Shack pulls it off.
The first selection was an easy pick, with three of my favorite things brought together under the same bun. The Mac and Cheese burger is truly a thing of beauty; a fresh cooked burger topped with crispy bacon and a monstrous helping of homemade macaroni and cheese. Plenty of institutions, including a handful of chains, offer a burger with macaroni and cheese, but the item that should set the burger apart tends to set the burger back, thanks to the usage of processed, generic mac that quickly reminds you how much you are paying for something you could have made better on your own, in your own kitchen, for less money. The mac and cheese at Shake Shack is fantastic on the burger, and the kind of rich side dish that could be a meal on its own. It’s that good, and clearly homemade. With several strips of bacon and a fresh bun to go with the burger and mac, and a helping of crispy tater tots on the side, finding a better option on the menu is a challenge.
The PBB burger is a twist on the infamous Guberburger, brought to fame by the sadly closed Wheel Inn Drive-​In in Sedalia, Missouri and their segment on the Hamburger America documentary. The Guberburger stood out due to its use of peanut butter on the burger, accented with a slice of tomato. The Shake Shack variety takes matters a step further, serving the burger with peanut butter, bacon, and a slice of white American cheese. The combination is risky but the result is excellent. The richness of the peanut butter, the creamy taste of the cheese, and the medium-​well burger mix perfectly.
The Ultimate BC burger lives up to its ultimate name. Touted as the Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger, the toppings are piled on until the bun can take no more. Multiple strips of bacon, which are a staple of nearly every item on the menu, set atop a variety of cheeses ranging from sharp Cheddar to Colby Jack, and at least one or two more. This is the burger for a cheese lover, a bacon lover, or your everyday glutton. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
There is something to be said for a place that knows its role, knows what and who it is, working within that paradigm to reach its fullest potential, while serving every single patron with excellent, expedient, and friendly service, leaving everyone knowing that their business was truly appreciated. Let’s face it, not every restaurant, even the small businesses we like to reach out to when we can, pulls that off with regularity. Some, quite honestly, don’t care once they have your money. The Shake Shack is special, from the food to the attitudes to the commitment to missions trips that have a wide-​reaching, long-​lasting effect on lives in Marion, across the country, and around the world. That, friends, is something that you can’t shake a stick at.

We had such a great experience here! Hubby and I drove from Michigan to Texas. I wanted ice cream, so searched on Unilocal and saw this place. Decided it sounded worth checking out. The place is decorated with lots of cute nostalgia! We seriously looked at the menu for 15 minutes cause it all sounded so good!
Hubby had the Italian Stallion and was so engrossed in his burger he was very quiet! He also had the «ice cream cake». WOW. He lovvvvvved everything! I wanted to save room for ice cream, so I had a grilled cheese which was fine and the fried pickles-​that were awesome!!! I also got a butterfinger shiver– like a blizzard but way more candy in it!!!
The owner was there and very friendly. We told him we were from Texas he pointed out his wife who is from Texas, his kids, and his mom (who started The Shake Shack with her late husband almost 40 years ago!). It felt like family and was such a wonderful experience. If we are anywhere in the area, we will be back. GO IF YOU CAN!!!

Great patty melt, even better catfish sandwich. Fish was crispy, not greasy. Didn’t order any shakes or ice cream because we were traveling, but I did get a couple of bags of peanut brittle and a fried apple pie. The onion rings are hand dipped, and the fried pickles are spears, not the little annoying chips that other places serve. Sweet tea.

This establishment is a small restaurant that serve weird burgers and shakes/​ice cream. Similar to velvet cream, but there is place inside to eat. We only got dessert, but they both were tasty. My strawberry shortcake tasted wonderful.

Great neighborhood spot, if you’re in the neighborhood. Wish I had a place like this in mine.

Very creative menu, and very delicious. The chef is truly gifted. The service is prompt and friendly. And the shakes are homemade and amazing. Very friendly and quaint place!

As a Canadian/​Californian, I’d never had authentic, real-​life Southern food. The reason for that: probably because I had never been to the South in the first place. So when i went to visit a friend of mine who lives in Marion, they took me to Shake Shack to change that. I got the first item on the menu, the fried catfish and hushpuppy plate.

This is a great spot for many reasons, most importantly because it is owned and operated by a wonderful local family that deeply cares about not only serving a good product but also about creating a better world.
Big John’s Shake Shack is located in Marion, Arkansas, just off I-​55. Known for it’s delicious and wide selection of milkshakes and burgers, it’s also home to a nice collection of Elvis memorabilia. Recently, this dive affixed a world map to the wall where you can proudly display your home. Guests have come from as far as Asia (and as a surprise, the staff will try and speak Japanese with you if you allow them).
The Shake Shack used to be open only during the week, but recently the ownership allowed a son (and headmaster of a local Christian school) to open on Saturdays and use proceeds to support mission trips around the world. This is a wonderful cause in my opinion, so our family tries and eat once a month here on Saturdays, where we dine on burgers, fries, tater tots and milkshakes. No, it’s not healthy, but yes, it’s good.
To make it even better, there is homemade pie.
Four stars and I am already looking forward to that next burger and shake.

The place to be seen in Marion Arkansas, simply the best local hamburger and onion rings on the west side of the Mississippi !

All I can say is this is the place to go for lunch on Friday’s. Best catfish plate in the area.

Best milkshake I’ve ever had, easily. 24+ flavors to choose from and the ones I tasted were all supremely rich, creamy, and tasty. The consistency is just remarkable and the flavor was deep and not overly sweet. Just superb.
Alas, the service was hit-​or-​miss – some of the employees were friendly, some were evangelical, some withstood all attempts to make communication.
Look like they also had a good selection of well-​priced fried foods and pies here as well, so definitely worth a visit back.
