Good job. JW did everything to make me happy and completed the job to satisfaction

A ok. I’ve had them do work on my place. I had a patio door that was not sealed properly and caused water damage to a plank of my wood floor, drywall and the interior wood trim.
They quoted me 4 – 6 hours plus materials. The handyman they sent did a really good job and kept my place really clean. He budgeted his hours well and tackled the big stuff which was sealing the door and replacing drywall and wood trim. There wasn’t enough time to paint.
I rate them as 3 stars because I think they are very expensive for what you get. Their rate is $ 106 an hour, but they also charge for the time needed to go to Home Depot and back, as well as to buy supplies. I understand that their time needs to be compensated but I don’t want to pay someone $ 106 an hour to drive and shop at Home Depot, especially for a small job.
It also looks like they charged me retail for the supplies they needed, which included items like caulk and mud. They only needed a little bit of the materials but they kept all of it. They didn’t send me an itemized receipt but I have an idea of how much these things cost as I often do handyman type work myself.
They also sent an estimator prior to doing the work, which normally costs $ 50. I don’t see why the estimator couldn’t have given me a list of materials so they don’t have to go out and buy everything.
So all in all — they do good work; I just don’t like their business practices and I don’t think that their pricing is justified.

The men who came to do the work were very nice, but some of the work kind of looked sloppy and they left their trash in the yard and on our back patio. I also felt this place is way over priced for the quality of work we received. I would not recommend them.

Two guys, two days and a long list of drywall (ceiling and repair, wall reconstruction), replace section of flooring tiles, switch-​out faucet, repair locks and electrical tasks (move outlet and disconnect outlet). Luther and Ignatius got it all done and left the rooms clear of debris. Much appreciated.

I hired JW improvement to renovate my condominium before selling it. I had JW replace bathroom and light fixtures, repair a toilet and patio handle, freshen grout, caulk, repair cracks, picture holes, and paint the unit.
I had purchased fixtures and Alino accompanied me to pick them up. On review, he showed me an alternate purchase that saved a few dollars.
The work was completed as promised, the gentlemen cleaned up thoroughly and my condo looked beautiful. I would use them again.

Thank you so much for the excellent service. The mechanics, Luther and Samuel, did a great job which made the entire process a pleasure to do business with your company. I will definitely use your services again. The original estimate for 2 men X 2 days was cut in half by the mechanics who worked like two synchronized swimmers.

I gave this contractor a huge cluster of jobs and they did great work. We worked through a few minor burps (they found some mold) and scope-​of-​work modifications, but everything got done and done well. I plan to bring them back for another long list of random, funky jobs. They replaced rotting posts under my deck, installed a separate entrance for my basement rental, plugged a built-​in slate planter with a custom piece of slate, painted around electrician’s work and did dry wall in multiple places. They painted the entire basement. Shared useful and creative ideas. Solved problems quickly. All good.

I should have asked for my Angie’s List deposit back and hired someone else. The two guys took forever installing two shower heads, two medicine cabinets, and two closet organizers. Surely, with two men working, the organizers should have taken 2 – 3 hours, tops. They installed the shelves wrong and that made the drawers misalign. When I told them about it, they said, «It’s how they go.» No. They did not. I explained to them showing them the instructions they claim to have read that the shorter shelf goes on the bottom for the drawers, which will them stack evenly on top of each other, with only a shelf on top of the top drawer. Eventually they understood but said they had to come back the next morning as they had run out of time. Over 7 or 8 hours and the closets were not installed?
They cut a huge hole in my drywall to recess mount the medicine cabinet after I specifically told the estimator that I wanted it surface mounted. They scraped a pipe in the wall. Thank God it wasn’t punctured. They proceeded to cut out the drywall then sent me to Home Depot to get a 2×4 so they could SURFACE MOUNT the medicine cabinet as I had asked for before. Behind the cabinet is screws (if you look low enough you can see them, tacky as ever), and the cabinet is covering an un-​spackled box cutout of a piece of drywall held up by screws and a 2×4. Why didn’t they listen? Why wasn’t the message conveyed about surface mounting?
To add insult to injury, I fixed the first closet organizer myself the night they left so they only had to install the other one the next morning. I had previously complained about them not finishing at least the first one and he said it was too much work. I said my clothes were all on the bed and I couldn’t sleep there. He said, «Can’t you hang them up temporarily here until we come back in the morning?»
Aside from this, the organizers look nice and I like that everything is now «done» but I will not be using them again. I feel I was overcharged and the crew they sent was easily confused over easy directions for things. Finally, they didn’t vacuum, patch up some holes, or clean up after themselves on the second day.

Let me start by saying I’m amazed by JW Home Improvement. I called to have an estimate done for a bathroom remodel and paint my master bedroom. The estimator was very knowledgeable of home repairs and even suggested a way to stop my shower faucet from leaking (something that annoyed me for months). After the estimate the job was schedule by the estimator before he left my home WOW! On the days the guys came out they showed up on time and were very pleasant. Each day they cleaned up and left the work space very tidy. On the final day of the project the tech went over everything that was completed and asked me if there was anything else I wanted done. I was very impressed by the professionalism of the company and the quality of work. The price may seem a little on the higher side but the quality matched and I will always call JW for all my home repairs! My bathroom is now my new oasis! Thank You!!!

They came out to power wash the deck and I was so pleased with the service that I am having another estimate done for the kitchen! The people are friendly and professional and they answer the phone when I call — that’s important to me. Great company for the things I cannot do.

I also did not have work done by this company. I wish I had read the reviews. I paid $ 50 for an estimate and it was the least professional estimate I have ever received. No measurements were taken. The estimator did not seem to know much about putting up shutters on a brick house. First he said 4 – 6 hours then 5 – 7 and finally 6 – 8 which came to $ 848 for four pairs of shutters. And the actual installer would come to the house, figure out what materials were needed and then go buy them at Home Depot (the estimate did not include materials). I would have been paying $ 106 an hour for the installer to stand in line at Home Depot. When I asked if I could get the shutters and have them ready I was told no. I got another estimate today for $ 400 for the whole job. You can guess which handyman I’m going with.

I feel like a total chump. I spent nearly 10K on what should have been a 3−5K job, thinking that I would get good quality, timeliness and professionalism since I was paying more. I was okay with paying what I knew was above the market rate because I assumed I wouldn’t have to micromanage the work and that it would be performed if not flawlessly, at least decently. I instead dealt with a steady stream of ridiculous problems — everything from hanging sliding closet doors with a few inch gap between the doors and the floor (they constructed the closet, so no idea how they managed to measure that incorrectly) to installing outlets and switches that do not work. Bizarre thing was that the job was a simple one: We’re talking knocking out two closets, constructing a new one, relocating an outlet and light switch and building a bump out do we could install a wall mounted TV. The part that I found most distressing — besides the shoddy work that after follow up was completed — was that I was billed for hours that I am pretty sure were not performed. One of our two workers stated that most of the job’s problems came from his co-​worker and explained that the co-​worker was inexperienced and had been arriving late and leaving early. He later told me that the co-​worker had been fired. So, I was basically paying about 100/​hour for a worker who wasn’t even showing up and was substandard. Yup, unsurprisingly, I was billed for full days for this worker. Lovely. Whatever, I paid it. That’s what I get for thinking that if I paid more I would get a better service. I didn’t even get standard service.

Got an estimate from Jessie, the owner, for $ 6,700+ for painting, drywall work, powerwashing, and some minor handyman work. He stated it would take 4 days, but was leaning towards 5 days with 2 men at $ 106 an hr. each. The estimate did not include materials. I paid the $ 50 fee for coming out to do the estimate, but lost it when I didn’t accept the proposal. VERY EXPENSIVE!
I got an estimate from, Shawn, the owner, of Precision Paint and Powerwashing for the same work for $ 2,380. It took 6 hrs. and 5 men and the work looks great. This company is also listed on Angie’s List.

Let me first say I did not have work done by JW Home Improvement. I found them on Angie’s List and called for an appointment. I was a bit put off by the $ 50 deposit required (48 hour cancellation policy) but understood they need to cover themselves. I also didn’t love their 4 hour minimum. I decided I’d look around and cancel if I found another company that seemed better.
I talked to a woman at JW today, Friday, and my appointment was for Monday. I told her I wanted to cancel because my husband and I thought the 4 hour minimum and $ 106 hourly rate was too much. She tells me she’s sorry but she can’t refund my $ 50 deposit. We go back and forth for a little while. I explain it’s more than 48 hours in advance, and NO ONE SAID only on business days. Their fault, not mine. Some schmuck manager says they’ll hold my $ 50 for a future appointment. Um, no thanks. I stood my ground and was about to tell her I’d go to the BBB and file a complaint, but the manager agreed to refund my deposit.
I certainly have no plans of ever doing business with them. They are penny-​wise and dollar-​foolish if they think keeping someone’s deposit will make them ever want a future appointment.

Called this company to give me an estimate on some shutter repair. One of the shutters on my townhouse had lost a couple of slats; others were beginning to look a little… haphazard.
For all I know, JW Home Improvement would have done a great job! I’m never going to find out, because they were way WAY way way way too expensive.
The man who came to my house insisted that it would be impossible to repair just the broken shutters; that I needed to completely replace every single one; that this would take a sturdy two-​man crew four days of arduous labor; and that it would involve supplies that by all indication of their estimated cost would be flown in one at a time, first class, with beverage service, from Dubai.
$ 9,000. The estimate came in at close to $ 9,000. And when I asked whether it would be possible just to slap on a Band-​Aid – nobody wants to be an HGTV hero in this house – the estimator said, among other things, «Do you want me to call your husband and explain to him why all of this is necessary?»
Ew.
I ended up calling my homeowner’s association for their recommendation and going with the local handyman who’s repaired all of the other shutters on the block. His estimate for the work that needs to be done is $ 375. $ 375.
Will my shutters be as nice or sturdy as they could have been if I replaced them in their entirety? Of course not. But I don’t need to do that. And I didn’t want to do that. And… seriously? The line about calling the husband?

2 men 2 days to build wall between two bedrooms. Approximately 6ft long and not to the ceiling. Drywall, plaster, trim, prep, prime and paint. 2 men 4 days to remove tile in kitchen and install Cement board and tile. Approximately 75 sg ft

TO PUT UP A SIMPLE SHEETROCK 6 FT WALL to separate one BEDROOM from ANOTHER that the previous owner removed. IT WILL COST ME $ 88 PER PERSON X 2 MEN — ASSUMING 2 DAYS EACH AT 8 HOURS =16 HOURS EACH. $ 2816 plus supplies. everyone else has quoted me between $ 400 – 800 with everything included. IS this JW company CRAZY! DON’T USE THESE PEOPLE.
OH, and 4 days to replace the small kitchen tile. Really!!! 4 DAYS??? It’s only 75 square feet. Actually it was only 65 sq feet, but they messed up the measurement. I have another contractor measure and it was 65 sq feet, and told me to buy 70 sq feet worth of tile to be safe. WHO TAKES 4 DAYS TO REPLACE AN AREA 6 FEET by 9 FEET? SO, assuming 2 guys x 4 days (8 hours each day) = 64 hours x $ 88 = $ 5632 + Materials for a small kitchen tiles. CRAZY.

If you have an old house – beware! I bought a big deal directly from JW for tile work in the powder room on the main floor of my house. Because of rain, JW called and asked if they could come about one week earlier than expected. They came early and it went down hill from there. We had them demo the floor and walls in the powder room and lay new tile and install drywall. At the end of two days and after paying roughly $ 2300, I had a huge leak in the ceiling directly under the powder room they worked in. I called them and Jesse sent someone the next morning. I was told that the leak was a slow leak that must have existed before the work began and that the banging and hammering of demo and installation moved the pipe and made the leak more noticeable. Although Jesse didn’t charge me to diagnose the problem, he said he would charge me to fix the pipe, so I asked his workers to leave. I understand that his employees didn’t puncture the pipe but they did open my wall and expose all of the pipes to the naked eye. If there was a leaking pipe, it would have been great for them to tell me BEFORE closing the wall back up with dry wall. To «diagnose» the leak, the very same workers who put up the dry wall cut a hole in the dry wall. So I was left with a leaking pipe, damage to the basement powder room, a hole in the drywall and the need to find someone new to fix it all. The good news is I did find someone new. The bad news is, I learned that JW didn’t even plug the seam on one side of the window properly-​there was drywall tape on one side of the window but not on both… just one more example of poor attention to detail. They get, and deserve, an «F».

A small business that really delivered — with a large service area in NOVA. They did a great job repairing wood trim on an oversized 3-​story bay window — not an easy task.
The crew was on time, courteous, and very professional. They only replaced the rotten pieces and didn’t try to upsell me on unnecessary work. They even saved me time and money by using spare/​pre-​purchased lumber from their truck. I would use them again as well as recommend them to friends.
