Mac Wood’s Dune Rides

Always good time for everyone. The guides are funny and informative. A bit pricy but worth it for a special time.

Vacationed in Michigan in July. Did Mackinaw city and island, and then the rest of the week enjoying traveling south along the Lake Michigan shoreline. First visit to Silver Lake and Dunes. SO glad we chose to do Mac’s Dune Buggy ride. Very easy — stop, pay for ticket, load onto next available truck filling with customers. Trucks running every few minutes. Felt safe and very family friendly. Our guide was wonderful — very engaging. Made it fun and stopped occasionally for a funny story or sightseeing. We sat in back row of seats and I never laughed so hard in my life! It was so much fun! Will definitely do this again the next time we are up that way!

Being in a wheelchair has its limitations, but this is NOT ONE OF THEM. As long as they don’t have to lift you, they’ll help with anyway they can. We could only give 5 stars, but deserves at least 8. If you are in the area, be sure to check this out. Got off the ride & almost went again!

I live in the area, but have never been on the dune rides. I anticipate it being very slow and dull; reluctantly, it wasn’t that at all. The dune ride was very fun and the driver was comical. Very fun for families.

This is a really fun, safe, and the most affordable way to enjoy the dunes in a motor vehicle. Our driver, Linda, was so fun and personable! Our group ranged in people from 3 years old through 65 years old and everyone had a blast! Our driver also told us about the history of the dunes as well as the local area and was very knowledgeable on every topic discussed. The fund scooter is a little high off the ground, so if you have mobility issues you may need assistance getting in. They do have a step stool you can request to use if needed, but most people should be fine. The ride is definitely rough, so use the bathroom before hand! Highly recommend this experience!

This is really as good as it gets folks! It was a thrilling and fun experience with our tour guide, who was humorous and funny. A wonderful experience to ride a dune scooter on the dunes. Trust me, your experience of Lake Michigan will not be complete without a ride here!

Everyone who has kids, or just wants to have a 40 minute good time needs to go on the Mac Woods Dune Rides! Great service and fairly cheap. ($ 17 for adult and 11 for kids) P. S. Alex is a great driver

Some of my best summer memories are of my family and I riding in the Dunes (after leaving my beloved sisters at Camp Miniwanca), and laughing SO HARD! This is a great thing to do with your family, with little ones, with friends, on a date– you name it. Wear sunscreen!

Frank was stuck in the sand, he has been there for years. No one misses him. But, remember no jumping otherwise you’ll be hanging with Frank forever. Frank jumped off way back in time because he dropped his star Trek pendent. Lol
Theres a run through the water so wear your bikini/​swim suit ;)

The least expensive way to experience the dunes in a motor vehicle! Along with that the drivers are knowledgable and make the tour fun. Get a stop at Lake Michigan and a couple others to take in the scenery. It is a very good time.

My family and I were on an impromptu vacation when we decided to take a dune ride. The ride was awesome! The driver/​narrator was very funny and very informative. I felt the ride was smooth and very safe while still maintaining a roller coaster feel. The scenery was amazing, the dunes were beautiful and perfect. Personally, the ride was expensive, but I would be up to doing this again here.

Rode the dunes with tenny and grand kids had a blast our guide had a lot of information the trip was about 40 minutes between Lake Michigan and silver lake one of the many spenders that Michigan has to offer.

It was Very Fun. Like a roller coaster in Egypt-​kinda sorta. Matt was our charming/​delightful guide and really, the only 2 things I can add to what everybody else has posted, is that we were traveling with a dog and were looking into getting her groomed so we could go on this ride guilt-​free and after not being able to find a groomer nearby-​we got some great info from the girl who answered the phone who told us they had two dog crates available.
That was great.
And, the couple next to us were on their honeymoon and were in their 70’s so this is an experience pretty much good for all ages. Yay.

Being from Michigan, I thought this would be a boring tourist trap type ride. We decided to check it out. This is truely the only way to experience the State Park side of the dunes with your family. This is one the the «Must Do» events when you visit Michigan.

I wish I could remember the name of our tour guide, but I did this a couple years ago and have no idea who it was. He was AWESOME though. It was a fantastic trip and I will definitely be back to do it again sometime. I’m not from the area, but my husband grew up here, so it was really cool to see a piece of his hometown. The area is so beautiful. Our guide stopped a couple places to take pictures and we got some amazing photos of Lake Michigan and the sand dunes. He also took a picture of us in the back of the vehicle, which was nice. I highly recommend this tour! I can’t remember how much we paid, but I don’t think it was all that much. well worth the cost!

A definate must do if you’re in the area. Adult tickets $ 16.00, 11 and under (I think) was $ 11.00. There are plenty of trucks going at all times, you never have a long wait. Our driver, Linda was full of knowledge and had tons of tips to offer about the area. The ride was incredible! We were able to view areas of the dunes that we could have only imagined. Linda even took us down to the beach (some got sprayed a bit). we stopped for a few minutes to take pics. The only request I would have is to drive a little bit faster! But hey, we don’t want to tip over! I would do this again for sure!

We rode the dunes with Mac Woods while on vacation in the area. Kids (14 and 11) were initially *not* very excited to go on it — they were grumbling… but once we hit the dunes they were all smiles! Both admitted they loved it.
We had Wheazie for our guide — she was whitty and fun, pointing out great photo opportunities for everyone, and telling us about the dune and state park.
The area you tour is beautiful. There is an endangered bird nesting on the beach, so at certain times of the year, they may not be able to drive in the water.
Count on about $ 16/​person (2009 pricing). Kids 12 and under are a bit less — plus souveniers if you so choose.
Note that people sitting on the outside seats will get sand blowing in their faces — people were commenting, but no one was complaining about it. Sunglasses might be helpful.
It’s a great way to see the dunes, hear about the area and have so fun with the family.
Would I recommend: Yes
Would I return: Maybe — this is the sort of thing you do once, and you’re done… however, if I was with people who had not done it yet, I’d happily accompany them.

As part of our family get together we had in Michigan, the big family outting was to Mac Wood’s where we took a fun-​filled 7 mile dune ride lasting about 40 minutes. Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable, which made it fun for everyone of all ages. I have to admit my favorite part was when we went down the big hills and I put my arms in the air and pretended I was young again as the wind whipped my hair and I got sand in my eyes.
Even Dave had a really good time and we both commented if we ever come back to Michigan we’ll have to take this beautiful dune tour of Silver Lake again.
