I have tried a lot of Mexican restaurants I have to say this one is the best I have found

Mexico Lindo is FUN, the staff are SUPER friendly, they have a GOOD menu and decent drinks, but PLEASE… PLEASE…Take the Tilapia off all the seafood dishes and replace with a decent higher quality fish!

First trip to Mexico Lindo was meh. Room is fun, nicely decorated. Convenient parking in Melrose Center. Prices are reasonable. You can hear conversation if the mariachi band is on the other side of the restaurant. Tried the Mexico Lindo burrito, hoping the namesake dish would be worthy. Portion was filling, eye appeal wasn’t bad but you could do better yourself with marginal culinary skills. To say it was bland would be an understatement, this was the least seasoned Mexican I have ever had. Wondering if the spice delivery didn’t make it this week? Seriously, if you’re going to serve spice-free Mexican, you better at least have pepper sauce on the table. Nope. When I said«wow, this is really bland» my girlfriend’s response was«so it’s not just me». It wasn’t horrible so I’ll give Mexico Lindo one more try, but the food was so weak I would be surprised if another visit changes my opinion that even Border Café is a better bet.

I have to be honest, this is the best Mexican place in town, hands down. The fresh chips and salsa are great and held me over as my mouth watered until the food arrived. As far as the food goes, lets just say that my plate looked like it came out of the dishwasher in under 5 minutes. Also, the margaritas are dangerously good, I would have had more if they weren’t so pricey! But overall, it is definitely worth your time! Oh and the service was excellent!

Great food and great– seemingly authentic– atmosphere. I didn’t find the mariachi band obtrusive like some others. This place reminds me of a smaller, more convenient Border Café. and the drinks were strong which is obviously ideal.

Very pleasant atmosphere and original decoration; the menu selection is varied and the food was very fresh and tasty. The portions are big and priced reasonably. Our server was very courteous and prompt with our needs. Would definetly go back on the days the mariachis are playing live.

I have come here for both lunch and dinner. The food is not the best mexican I have ever had but they do fairly well for the price, I really do love their fajitas which is large enough servings I am always taking it home. The margaritas are pretty good and they are made fresh. I personally like the ultimate margarita and it has quite a kick. Friendly staff. Food service can be slow if you come during the dinner rush.

I’ve been visiting Mexico Lindo since the day it opened, my two kids are regulars since the age of 5 and 7. We’ve tried most of the dishes on the menu and they are truly great but the majority of the times I get the whole fish and my wife gets the Steak Fajita’s for two to split with my son. My 17 year old daughter is always getting a vegetarian dish, I don’t know how she does it at age 17… The staff and owners have consistently delivered outstanding flavors and service over the years and tonight I was moved to write a review after we took one of our holiday guests in for dinner and they went crazy over the whole fish and chili con queso dishes. I just read the bad reviews on this page and I’m a little perplexed being a longtime customer, anytime my family or guest want Mexican we travel from Middleton to Melrose. I encourage anyone that has had a bad meal to speak with the owner, I don’t know his name but I know he is always there takes bad service, bad food, and bad drinks served in his place very serious… if you doubt the food quality I encourage you to get the steak fajita dish at Mexico Lindo and order it at your other favorite Mexican restaurant and the quality and flavors won’t even be close. And if you don’t want to speak with someone and you get bad service give a 0% tip… best way to send the message you got horrible service. Have a great holiday season

I don’t normally do negative reviews, the food or service have to be bad enough that i want to warn people… and I want to warn people not to bother with this place. Positives are the atmosphere is the typical expectation for the local neighborhood Mexican joint, I liked it, it was clean etc. The staff was friendly and the service was attentive, no problems there. It’s the food and the drinks… really and truly awful. Nearly inedibly bad, I was so hungry I struggled to just choke down the food I paid for. I’ve had better frozen Mexican from 7 – 11’s frozen burrito selection. We had just basic dishes, a chimichanga and maybe enchiladas and both entrees tasted like they had hot tomato paste as the sauce, the meat was pretty flavorless, the rice was low-grade food store generic«Mexican Rice» in a box. Truly horrible. The house margaritas tasted like paint thinner. Picture the worst plastic jug liquor and just add a teaspoon of Rose’s lime juice and drink it. I’m not picky when it comes to a cheap margarita in a plastic glass, these were so bad I didn’t even finish mine. I was just plain shocked with this one, it is nearly impossible to make inedibly bad basic Mexican food, but they have succeeded. Though not purely Mexican, if you are in the mood in the area, check out Border Café up in Saugus, it is a completely different world above this place.

I /we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. We are technically from VA but are up often to visit friends and family and will definitely come back again. I had the chicken fajitas and loved them! Portions were generous but not ridiculous so I do have some left over for tomorrow but not so much it goes to waste. Their staff and service was great too. Can’t wait to come back and try it again.

Sheer laziness brought me back in last night, however it will be the last. Why can’t I have a joint in my hometown? Waaah! I was so wound up I’m just gonna do this in bullet points and spare myself the writing of a novelette: 1. pork tamale was not cooked 2. waited 10 – 15 minutes to be graced by the barkeep, as everyone who needed a drink got it before I was addressed, sorta 3. barkeep makes no eye contact and tries to whip the offensive plate away, but I grab it and say ‘hey, this is raw’ 4. so I get some attitude and a brief lesson on how tamales are pre-made, yea sister, I know 5. now I’m that guy at the bar that nobody wants to be around, that guy with the scowl 6. I receive a taco plate, angrily wolf it, pay the damn bill, and stomped out 7. NEVERAGAIN … I always have to drive to Malden, Everett, Cambridge, Somerville for proper Mexican and a smiling face 8. from this day forward: Mexico Robotico, out.

The Ambiance: This place is pretty no frills. Sparse and a little dark, so definitely sit by the window and you will be able to people watch a bit. The interior could definitely use a redesign and they should go through some of their tableware — my beer glass came with a chip on the lip. The Service: The service is professional but not warm. Our server was courteous and made sure to check in on us, but didn’t smile once. They did, however, make sure we never ran out of their delicious chips. Seriously, we went through at least three baskets. The Food: The food is decent but a little expensive for the quality. I got the small combo, which included 1 tamale, 1 chicken enchilada, rice, and beans. The food was good — a little bland, but I find that most food in New England is on the bland side(I grew up here some I am allowed to say that). Overall, I likely wouldn’t go there again. Still on the search for good mexican food in the area.

Great food! But service was really slow. May have been because of the labor day weekend and they got slammed, only one server was on but everyone was friendly. Awesome salsa!

I’ve been coming here for a handful of years, and have always had a delicious meal. I also get take-out dinners a couple times a month; again, always tasty. At lunchtime, it’s a great place to stop in for a quiet bite off their lunch menu – slightly smaller portions at a much cheaper price. It’s easy to have conversations over a meal while a couple of regulars chatter at the bar. When dinnertime rolls around, it’s a fun, loud place to go with friends. There’s always a good sized crowd, but I’ve never had to wait more than a minute or two to be seated. Wednesday nights feature a mariachi band strolling from table to table. That’s a bit too loud for me, but there are six other nights of the week I can choose from, so it’s a non-issue. My favorites when dining there: Pollo a la Chipotle, Chile Verde Plate, Tacos al Pastor, and Molé Poblano Chicken. For takeout, I often get a Chile Relleno Plate and a Tamale. Also, the Macho Burrito is a delicious meal and a half. Are they the best, most authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to? No(those places are in Mexico, Denver, and San Francisco)…but I’m always happy to hit up Mexico Lindo whenever someone suggests it.

Foods is okay — I’ve been a few times — I was very dismayed at the Fish Tacos — the fish was terrible A bigger complaint; the staff lets little kids run around and bother all the other customers. If you want a dining experience like chuckie cheese — I wholeheartedly recommend it. What happened to parents who actually control their children in a restaurant? I have grown kids — I never let them run wild — and a restaurant that doesn’t respect adults wanting to have a dinner without screaming children running free — is not where I will spend my money.

I want to like Mexico Lindo! It has a great location in the heart of downtown Melrose, and is bursting with atmosphere! It draws you in, you want margaritas and fajitas… But I wish I could say the food is good. I’ve been disappointed with the food on each occasion I’ve been there. I’ve dined in probably 5 tines over the last year. Friends keep inviting me, I want to go… it’s just not living up to the potential. My friends did seem to like the food more than I did. I found it merely passable. I hope things improve because it really is a fun place to go!

After enduring what I describe to out-of-staters as «the longest winter of my 25 years», yesterday’s weather was a pure treat. I was able to get out of the house to go hiking and fishing with a couple of friends. After hitting the blue trail in the Fells and reeling in a total of one fish, we were ready to sit down and enjoy dinner and drinks. My friends who I was with suggested Mexico Lindo. Our server was absolutely delightful, our food was incredible and very reasonably priced, and the margaritas were delicious(perfect blend of ingredients — not to boozy, not to mix-y). I got the arroz con pollo and it was out-of-this-world good. I sent a picture of it to my girlfriend who was not present, and she demanded I order a second one to go for her. All in all, great place and will 100% be returning. OH! and they have outdoor seating!

Olé’! It’s a fiesta! Not quite, but Mexico Lindo brings authentic Mexican cuisine to the heart of downtown Melrose. I’ve read a bunch of the reviews for this place, and most of the bad ones seem to revolve around speed of service and flavor. I think a lot of these people have set themselves up for failure. First off, just sit at the bar. It’s a Mexican restaurant, you’ll probably be enjoying some cocktails with your meal… don’t depend on a busy waiters in a crowded restaurant– just sit at the bar and you’ll be served quickly and efficiently. Also, the people complaining about the flavors seem to be ordering really obscure items. Crema de what?!? Just get the tacos, burritos, quesidillas, grilled shrimp dishes, etc. Trust me, none of them disappoint! I usually wash it down the house margaritas and those are solid also.

We go here probably 4 times a year. We just went again and thought I would give a review. Honestly I thought it was an update, but I guess I never reviewed it before. We had a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Busy, but not packed and there was no line. Most tables full and a small crowd at the bar. Service was very good(which has been our general experience). Plenty of refills on water, chips and salsa. As always the two types of salsa were delish and fresh, same with chips. Having lived in the southwest for a number of years, we are pretty picky about this style of food. Some of the meals were good, some just okay. Not up to past experiences. Almost looked like the food had sat under heat lamp for a while. That said, we will go again hoping it may have just been an off day. If I had to go by past experiences I would have been to give a 4 star.
