Four Points by Sheraton Memphis – Southwind

Many aspects of this hotel were good, but the pool and hot tub were so very dirty that I have serious safety concerns. I contacted Starwood Corporate twice the weekend of our stay (Easter 2016) and was told I’d receive a return call within a week. It’s now been more than 2 months and I haven’t received any communication from them.
The water was so brown in the hot tub, you couldn’t even see the bottom. (Photos included here.) The water was also pretty low as if no new water had been added recently. We didn’t enter the hot tub because it was obviously a mess. Some young kids had been playing in it before we approached though, and that was concerning. Their mother probably couldn’t see inside the hot tub from where she was sitting. In what otherwise seemed like such a nice hotel, she wouldn’t have expected this type of hazard. They left before we had a chance to warn them.
The pool was pretty gross too, but it wasn’t as immediately obvious. We went ahead and entered the pool, but found all kinds of hair ties and clumps of hair (not just one or two, but 5+ hair ties and clips on the bottom of one area alone). My teenage boys also noticed that they could swim along the bottom of the pool and a person standing and looking down couldn’t see them at all because it was so cloudy. Not good.
The rooms were nice, but not real clean around the edges. What we saw was similar to other reviews and photos posted previously.
A front desk manager named Emi was rude. One of my calls to Starwood Corporate was about the experience with her. The other front desk staff members we met were very, very nice though.
I travel a good bit and in general I try to avoid writing negative reviews. Instead I tell management and/​or corporate directly in the rare instances where something serious has happened. That’s why I put off writing this review for 2 months in the hopes that Starwood Corporate would return my calls. I wish they had. I’m reporting here now because I feel it is important to warn others about this situation.
I encourage anyone reading to be extra careful at this hotel, especially if you have kids.

Pleasantly surprised and satisfied with my 1 night stay!
I was hesitant staying here due to the mixed reviews, but we only needed the room for 1 night and I used my SPG points to book the room.
I normally stay at The Westin brand hotels, but for the price/​points, I would definitely stay here again.
The king «suite» was very comfy and it was clean. It had a small microwave and fridge.
They served complimentary bbq beef brisket with a complimentary draft beer in their restaurant/​lounge/​bar area that evening. A nice touch!
We bought a bottle of wine at the bar for $ 26 (not bad) and they uncorked it and gave us 2 glasses to take to our room.
The 2 ladies at the front desk did not greet us when we checked in nor did they acknowledge me as a SPG Gold Member. They really seemed bothered doing their job! They could really use customer service training/​coaching.
On the other hand, the server in the lounge area, Rachon, was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Rachon is VERY friendly, personable, attentive and professional. We mentioned the poor customer service we received during check-​in and Rachon sincerely apologized and took accountability for her co-​workers actions. No excuses or justifications, thank goodness, just «I’m sorry and we are glad you chose to stay here.» That makes all the difference in the world!
The next time I come to Memphis, I will definitely stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Memphis-​Southwind!

the visit was unpleasant there was a different amount charged than quoted. when we called from the room because we had a pull out sofa but we had no sheets and pillows they bought us the items that looked they came out the dryer however it looked as though they dropped the towels on the floor because they were dirty they said they did not have any pillows. when I communicated this at the end of the stay they said that they would credit me a thousand points on my membership but I told him I didn’t have a membership but they said that they would credit me a thousand points anyway for my trouble. it took 20 minutes to check out because their computer crashed twice all in all it was an unpleasant experience. On a good note the room was clean and they had complimentary water.

The hotel was actually nice, clean and the staff were friendly. We stayed 2 nights, the first night was fine. The second night, we were awakened at 3am by the BLARING fire alarm. My 10 yr old daughter was very frightened. We had to evacuate the hotel while they attempted to figure out the problem. No one from the hotel attempted to explain the situation. The only information we received was from the police and fire dept. In the morning, I asked if we would be given any compensation for the fact that our sleep was disrupted. I understand that they had some kind of power failure which I imagine they cannot help, but I do believe that their customers some kind of compensation for getting no sleep. They offered 25% off breakfast. We were there with our soccer team, we had about 10 families in a block of rooms, breakfast was included with our contract so offering a percentage off breakfast did not help us. Plus, 25% off, at a minimum they should have given us free breakfast. So I later contacted the manager, when I told her I felt that I should be compensated she offered 1000 SPG points… I do not know what SPG points are, they also does not help me. I still believe we should have been given some kind of REAL compensation for the fact that we did not receive sufficient sleep. At a minimum, I would hope a hotel could provide a good night’s sleep. Again, I understand a «glitch» but they should have compensated us.

The manager hasn’t contacted me about this review. I tried again last week, and it was even worse. I actually did an online survey and the manager emailed me because I gave them 1’s on the Starwood survey. I’m guessing they don’t care about Unilocal reviews. I tried called to see what they planned to do, but the «Director» was working Sunday night, over night and wouldn’t be back until Tuesday. I’ll try again tomorrow, but I’m skeptical that a director is working the front desk over night, and if she is, there’s more wrong than what I have identified.

Just checked in with April at the front desk, what a delightful young lady. Fast check in and heads up on what the hotel offers. April was one of the best front desk people we met on our 16 day trip with 6 hotel stops.
Beautiful quiet rooms, nice pool and hot tub. The bar/​restaurant is a nice plus.
I would recommend staying here.

Excellent, clean hotel. The beds were very comfortable. The room was exceptionally clean. The front desk ladies were friendly and welcoming. They helped recommend a very nice place for dinner.
Downside, the breakfast has a surcharge. Most hotels are beginning to include the breakfast for your stay.

This place was great. I had the best room on the fourth floor and the front desk women were very very nice. It was clean and the towels were pretty thick. I also enjoyed the bar and restaurant. But the best thing about this place was the customer service. They made it easy and they are very accommodating even when I had a problem.

Very clean and everyone was nice… Very affordable and I felt safe while I was there and I plan on staying there on my next visit.

Offers St. Jude family discount even though we are 22 miles from the hospital! Very nice rooms with comfy plush beds and separate seating area, large LCD tv. So far very quiet and not near busy road. The only issue we had was we thought we booked at the Poplar Ave location when I called and they did not let me know that we would be at the Stansel rd instead (I didn’t even know there were two!) so we had to cancel the second night, farther from town than we wanted to be. Hate it though because we really like it!

My husband and I checked in to the this hotel, which is no longer a comfort suites, it’s a four points, on December 27, 2013 around 6:30pm. We had a long day and went to bed right after we got in. I thought I felt something while watching tv but dismissed it and thought nothing else of it. I woke up at 11 to find a bed bug scrambling around in our bed! My husband used a hotel info card to catch it and put it in a coffee cup. We took it downstairs. The clerk smelled the cup, and then opened it and confirmed it was a bedbug and assured us we would not be charged for the room. I’m still not sure why she smelled it, but we checked out immediately! I feel the need to mention we have been in and out of the area a lot lately and stayed at this location the previous week as well. We also had trouble with the bed being dirty during that stay. We switched rooms three times before they found us a clean one! We only gave them a second chance because the price and location were convenient.

I give this typical airport hotel an extra star because of how they handled serious power outages due to a storm. They offered everyone in the lobby free breakfast and made sure everyone was accounted for and was as comfortable as possible. The staff worked hard and were engaged which is all you can ask for. The rest of the experience was par for the course — clean room, typical amenities.

Nice clean hotel. Not located very close to downtown Memphis, but we were just passing through on the way to Dallas, TX. Can’t comment on any other aspects of the hotel.

— Got the impression that the floor hadn’t been well vacuumed beforehand… the pup had a blast sniffing around and locating little tidbits
