I stopped by here a couple of Saturday’s ago with my wife. We were walking up and down Beale St. trying to find a place with live blues music whenever we stumbled upon this place. The cover charge was $ 5 to get in and whenever we arrived it was easy enough to find a seat at the bar. They had a good selection of beers at the bar for decent prices including some local brews which made me happy. The band the night that we were there was a real blues band and we throughly enjoyed the music. The only thing that I think Mr. Handys could improve on is having more than a single bartender. While it didn’t personally affect us I noticed a number of people getting frustrated with the wait times from the hustling and overworked bartender. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. This was my favorite place that my wife and I stopped at on Beale St as the beer selection was good and reasonably priced while the music was awesome too.

I stopped here to catch a set of some fine Delta blues. Its a divey kind of place, and it is as commercial as Beal street gets being in the middle of it all, but the bar maid was very pleasant and mixed a decent drink and the music was terrific. No cover, but the drink prices made up for it, I thought it was a good value to hear music and hang out.

I couldn’t believe their was no cover but we did put $ in the tip bucket. The band had everyone dancing. Played Elvis, blues, Freebird and so much more… Beale Street had an overall great party atmosphere!

The good — — Live blues music on Beale without a cover. — Patio seating — Ideal people watching — Little room to dance, but just enough for you to swing your hips or nod your head to enjoy the music — Semi cleaner than other establishments on Beale — Friendly and laid back bartenders The bad — — Drinks are weak. They’re priced cheap, but you’re not getting a lot for your buck. Make sure you ask for a heavy pour to avoid being jipped. — Some odd folks do roam inside. You will see what I mean when you get there.

One of the few places on Beale to listen to old school blues. This is a small bar on the backside of Rum Boogie. I recommend this place for folks from out of town and locals alike. Music and booze only.

I visited Memphis for the 1st time in November 2014& I loved it. I have been all over the planet & Memphis is the best music city I have ever been to. I was blown away by the talent of these local Blues musicians. Most of the venues I saw did cover songs, but they were all played to perfection. Mr. Handy’s Blues Hall & Rum Boogie were the 2 standout places in Memphis. The place is small, but has plenty of room to dance. It has great sound. The band is on a small stage up front, which gives the place a more intimate feel. Mr. Handy’s had a Bluesy vibe. The drinks were modestly priced & everyone was having a good time. The singer even came out to the dance floor a few times to dance with some of the ladies in the crowd. I loved this place. I highly recommend checking it out, if you are in Memphis. Rum Boogie is good too. It is right next door.

I was born and raised around Memphis and this is my favorite place to take anyone in town to see live music. It’s small enough that you can feel a part of the crowd. I’ve never seen a band that hasn’t impressed. Yes the bar is smokey but as much as I hate being in smokey bars it just adds to the experience. You can always go through the door to Rum Boogie but I think you’ll find the bands and crowd are just more fun in the Blues Hall. The bar is well stocked with some good beer on tap and a lot of bottled choices. If you want to see live music and feel a part of something this is your place.

This place was everything I hoped to get out of a trip to Memphis. First off the blues was amazing. We traveled to some other spots first and they were fine but super touristy – this place was gritty, raw, and unapologetically authentic. I loved it. Everyone was loving the music and in a good mood. I got the fried pickles and they were great. Can’t wait to come back

This is a pretty fun bar on Beale St. Local musicians wailing the blues and beers the size of you head! Probably the most divey bar I was in on Beale street but also maybe the coolest! I love the open air feeling of the front doors always being open and the music pumping into the street! The bar was pretty packed, it was the Saturday of a local St. Patty’s parade, but this seems like a place that would be pretty packed all the time! The band playing ruled and the staff did too!

I got ripped off tonight. Club handy at 200 Beale street, Memphis. I got a coke which cost $ 5.00, paid with a twenty and got five back. Ripoff. Avoid at all costs.

Hands down the coolest little juke joint on Beale street. Heard a couple amazing blues acts that completely blew me away. This is for sure my most favorite music venue in Memphis.

Oh where to start on this place!!! This is one of my favorite chill bars that I love to go to on Beale to listen to amazing blues tunes with my friends. No matter what day of the week it is, this place is always packed with either locals(like myself) or tourists wanting to hear some great tunes with a cold one in their hand. My favorite band to watch here is Dr. Feelgood Potts and his band. AMAZING! Can’t get enough of this Juke Joint! I always have a blast here!

Descriptive phrase: blues dive. Like every other place on Beale Street, Mr Handy’s Blues Hall serves up fantastic blues music. Here is the more old-school, slowly goin’ down the river — blues. It’s a tiny stage in a poorly-lit and very small bar, connected to the larger Rum Boogie next door. They even had a dread-locked white guy come up from the crowd and croon. It was a great time.

My sister and I went to Memphis for a girls weekend and this — thank you, fellow Unilocalers — was on our list of places to go. What an excellent choice! The bartenders were friendly and helped me discover that I like Old Fashioned’s, the music was really great, and the atmosphere was perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for: old school feel, and as Anastacia S. said, you feel a bit like you’ve been transported back in time. Thankfully, it somehow avoids the kitsch of Beale St. and retains some authenticity. The restrooms are in the Rum Boogie Café next door, which isn’t a big deal, and it wasn’t difficult for us to get one of the high-top tables either. I highly recommend it, even if you’re just in Memphis for the night! I know I’d go back again in a heartbeat!

Excellent band but cover your ear drums. Way, way too loud. My ears are still ringing two days later. Take note Mr. Handy.

We were visiting Memphis for the weekend and as we were walking down Beale St we heard some great music coming from the Blues Hall so we decided to stop in. The Patrick Dodd Trio was playing and they were fantastic! We stayed here for the rest of the night. The space is very small but that makes it that much more intimate when watching a band. Highly recommend, when we return to Memphis this will definitely be our first(and likely only) stop on Beale St.

One of the Best places on Beal Street! This is the Heart of real Live Memphis Blues Rock. Part of the Rum Boogie Club it is still stands by its self. Food is good but better to eat in the Boogie and suck up the juice in the Blues Hall. Bartenders in the Juke are tops, they keep you topped off and are always ready to do for you. So tip them Well! And if Jeremy is working that’s my Boy Tip him REALWELL!!! Live Music!!! In the Hall you are with the band when they play. The Hall is a wonderful strip and real personal. When the band go’s on brake they will come to meet you! Some of the Best Bands that are Patrick Dodd Trio, Darren J Band and the rest of the lineup will not let you down! Patrick Dodd Trio, is a must see, so if you love Music Do not Miss Patrick if you do it is a life blunder! Patrick Dodd on vocals will bring you back time and time again. This guy has real Soul and his Heart is made of Gold! Landon Moore can play the bass like I’ve never seen anyone do before! He could keep up with the best! Harry Peel on Drums brings the past to life in Future Blues! If you see anything on Beal Street Patrick Dodd Trio should be on the top of your list! Darren J Band puts the Fire in the Hall! When you’re in the Hall with this Band You feel like it’s you and just the band. Darren Falls Mother gave birth to him and his guitar, you have to think her for this! Laura Cupit on Bass makes you feel like Wonder Woman has taken over the stage. Playing with the real fire of sex and a bass sound you have got to feel!!! W.C. Garrison on Drums sets the beat for the show, You will truly enjoy what he brings… So Don’t forget the DRUMER! Tell Harry too! Now if you thank that’s all they got for live music you have your head under a rock! But with all that said James watches the Door. Tip him when you can, he will make sure the door is safe and if anyone gets in the way of your good time, James can take care of that too!!!
