Specialties
Beetlebung is a family owned business on Martha’s Vineyard. We operate a Coffee House and design casual clothing and accessories inspired by the Island where we live year round for women, men and children. Since our first design — the Rorschach Lobster — we have introduced dozens of new designs that can be found at our Menemsha and Vineyard Haven locations, on our Facebook page and at beetlebung.com.
The Coffee House — located at our Menemsha location — is best known for its terrific espresso, the Menemsha (smoked local bluefish & cream cheese on a toasted bagel), the Anchorage (wild Sockeye salmon & cream cheese bagel), Lobster Sliders, Crab Melt, Reuben (a favorite among Islanders), Island Salads, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade Slushies, All Natural Mango Banana Organic Yogurt Smoothies, and our Arnold Palmer (made with real Lemonade and your choice of five Organic Iced Teas).
History
Established in 2005.
Renee moved to Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard with her two young children from the Czech Republic. While living abroad — inspired by the lack of safe playgrounds for her toddler — she convinced a local biscuit company to fund the creation of a new public playground in the city of Plzen. When Renee returned to the U.S. she left in her wake 53 new playgrounds throughout the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Similarily, inspired by the lack of quality espresso and warm community gathering spots on the Vineyard, Renee set out to create a coffee house that filled those needs. Beetlebung opened in July 2005 in Vineyard Haven, a small cozy coffee house with a European tavern-like atmosphere. In 2012 the coffee house moved to the fishing village of Menemsha, up-Island where the name «Beetlebung» originates. With the creative input of husband John, their artistically gifted children and local artists, Beetlebung also creates new designs each year for clothing, beach towels, mugs and more.
