Almost twenty years ago we became acquainted with Tom Wing & Sons. John Tom worked with my husband and me to design my engagement ring. What could’ve been an intimidating process was wonderful thanks to John Tom carefully listening to what we wanted and professional guidance. That was the beginning of a long, positive relationship. The family who owns this store has always treated us like family. We know them by name (George, Jimmy, Margaret, Mabel) and they know us by name too. That’s what makes them special, the way they treat their customers. With that said, customer service only stands up when combined with high quality. Tom Wing & Songs has both. True artistry, in depth knowledge, and a passion for their craft is what sets Tom Wing & Sons apart.
If/​when this family ever retires, I don’t know what we’ll do!

After an unpleasant experience with pearl restringing at another jeweler on Santa Cruz Avenue, I took my Mikimoto pearls to Tom Wing’s to have them restrung. My husband bought my pearls at Tom Wing’s in 1989, when they were located at Stanford Shopping Center but I never realize they did restringing until now. When I picked them up they looked brand new! Knotted exquisitely by Mabel, I realized what a poor job had been done by the other jeweler who charged half but I clearly «got what I paid for». I had paid more to have them done in the past and was pleased with the professional work. Now that I have had a beautiful job done at Tom Wing’s just across the street from me, I will never go anywhere else. Family owned and staffed, I found them very gracious and professional. Thank you!

You can’t beat this place! You can feel the passion for the jewelry arts that has been passed down through the family and is still family owned and run. They did an excellent job accommodating a very specific design and gem combination by custom making a beautiful piece from different stones found throughout other pieces of jewelry within the store. Every stone in this store is stunning making it hard to choose from. Great people to have come across, the prices may be a bit higher but worth every penny for something you will enjoy for life!

I went in because I had a broken chain on a necklace and I had a new earring that my husband had bought up at a boutique in SF that the back wouldn’t stay on.
Mabel was very kind. Fixed the chain and gave me a couple of backs that fit tighter. No charge.
They had some truly beautiful pieces in the store and a variety of styles to appeal to a wide range of uses. I hope to go back and purchase something. Soon.

Jewelry Repair: My wife loves old jewelry and I’ve bought her many antique pieces. But the old necklaces and attachments break. She collected 8 items needing repair. Black pearl necklace, antique glass, bracelets. gold chains, etc. Since I bought most of this and fix everything else could I fix these or find who could? So I’ve been searching for a jewelry repair spot near Menlo. I searched Unilocal,I asked out neighborhood Forum, our friends, no luck. After a year of searching I asked the lovely woman at the Discovery Center (American Cancer Society Shop) on Santa Cruz Ave, where I had bought a few old items. TOM WING, she said as though it was obvious.
I had been walking by Tom Wing’s for 5 yrs — we live just 3 blocks away. It looks classy outside, and is that, I had no idea they could do repairs. I went in with a bag of stuff and met George, OH, you have to come tomorrow and see my sister, she does all that. I didn’t realize that he meant she DOES all that, I thought I might just being shunted to a different dept. But determined as I was, hadn’t I been searching a year, I saw Mabel the next morning. She gave an expert eye to very piece. For one necklace she recommended wire, for another individual knotted silk. Other items just needed soldering. She said we will have this ready next week. What? Next week? I’ve been trying to find repair for over a year. Sure enough, Mabel called today to say it’s all ready.
Note: Restringing on silk with a knot between each bead is not cheap. It may even cost more than you paid years ago for an old piece, but if you value it, it will be well worth it.
If you think it’s not, please look at all the lovely things in the shop, many designed by Mabel.
Now, can I pass off the 8 items I’ve been a year fixing for a Yule present, or will I have to bring P to Tom Wing’s?

Who doesn’t LOVE jewelry??? This elegant store has the very best service; I will forever ONLY have Jimmy the jeweler create and work on my pieces; he is truly an artist!!! I love everything my husband has bought for me from here as well as the exquisite pieces I have had Jimmy update by redesigning for me as they are UNIQUE and one of a kind! THIS whole family knows the jewery business like no other store around as they have been at it for sooooo many years. beginning with their dad! Even if you do not buy something; it is always a treat just to stop in and visit them. DO NOT be intimidated. they really are the best… AND I know they are trustworthy!!!
Can’t say enough about them; waiting for my grandfathers gold cufflinks that Jimmy is turning into earrings for me!

I went to Tom Wing & Sons because I needed my pearl necklace repaired. They did a lovely job! It looks great, and they cleaned it too. Everyone I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Love this family owned business!

Again, wonderful service and amazing jewelry. I just went in recently and bought a beautiful pair of diamond earrings and have been getting a lot of compliments at work. Tom Wing and Sons has such high quality pieces. I’m hoping I can head back for Christmas.

Tom Wing & Sons is the place to go if you want quality and service. I bought a pair of diamond studs from them that I have gotten so many compliments on in the last two years. They have also done jewelry repairs for me. I have gone to other jewelers for repairs and had the stones fall out months after — this place is not like that. If they fix something, it stays fixed.
Also, my sister bought a custom made engagement ring and wedding rings from them as well and they were exquisite.
I see that another Unilocaler commented on them not having a huge selection but I’m of the opinion that if you want the Wal-​mart of jewelry, go to Tiffany & Co. or any other big outfit where the inflated costs pay for their overhead. If you want quality, service and something unique, go to Tom Wing & Sons.

Tom Wing & Sons is a family run store that cares about their work. Too many retail experiences these days are devoid of the kind of human connection that makes for an enjoyable shopping experience. This is more important when looking for jewelry where you’re trying to find something truly special for your special someone.
While some people might interpret George and his family’s talkativeness as un-​needed or unnecessary. I would recommend engaging in that dialog and being open to a conversation that might lead you to find a better fit for your presents.
I have been a customer for more than a dozen years and have moved beyond simply choosing from the displays in the store. You can walk in with drawings and a description of a piece of jewelry you would like to have created and George and his family are delighted to take that on and create a unique piece just for you. They love the challenge!
Having done this several times I can say that Tom Wing & Sons is a great place to sit down, have a conversation about you and your special someone and come out with a great present at the end.
While they are not inexpensive, if you’re looking for something special, this is the place to visit!

Although I loved the décor of the place with Chinese relics and paintings in the store and I enjoyed talking (or rather being talked to) by George, I didn’t find their ring selection diverse.
There was a small section of where the engagement rings were housed and they were all set with no diamond. So before George would take out any rings for me, he basically told me to back-​up and buy the diamond first and not the ring which I appreciate, because apparently, I was doing it all backwards. He also brought it to my attention that my line of work may not be conducive to a certain setting or type of ring, which I never thought of as well, so for that George, I thank you.
But the rest of the visit I got the gist that basically he wanted me to buy one of their diamonds and then have them design a ring for me. I got their whole philosophy which was they won’t sell or pitch me any ideas of a ring for me. They want me to tell them (his analogy: like a patient talking to a psychiatrist) what I want so that they can design my ring. Which is what some may want, but I wasn’t interested in carrying on that leadership role.
So although the place and the service seemed genuinely nice, the actual diamond politics didn’t sit well with me.

Went in looking for a nice gift for my girlfriend and walked out extremely happy. Our family has been going to their store for quite some time and although a bit on the pricey side you can’t put a price a customer service.
I made an appointment to go in and talked to them about what I was looking for. Mabel, who showed me the choices, was very knowledgeable with their inventory and gave me a variety of choices. She asked me what I generally had in mind and what my budget was. Her and George treated me as if I was in the living room of their own house. They were not pushy and ended up taking out about 20 different peices before I mae my mind up on one.
The other thing that I like about their store is that many of the peices are unique, they are designed in house and don’t make copies of them. Sure I could’ve found something cheaper at a chain store but I’ve seen other girls’ reactions when they see somebody else wearing something they own. In any case, if you’re looking for that something special for someone who is worth the time then I would recommend Tom Wing and Sons.

Here’s my thing with them:
I love a lot of their pieces, and I went in to get my engagment ring fixed (the band was bent) and I also brought it a major bling bling necklace that I wanted to have altered a little (remove a diamond pendant that was attached to the necklace and have it as a stand alone pendant) to make it more wearable. So I waked in and there were two men and a woman – maybe the sons of Tim Wing. They looked at my ring first –simple work needed, THEN they saw the necklace… their eyes twinkled and they started talking to one another in Chinese (unfortunalty can’t understand a word). The quote for the necklace was $ 700 (crazy amount). I said that it was too much – could they perhaps take it down like several hundred dollars. One of the sons said, «Oh no no this will be very tricky work!» Dude you’re just removing a simple dangly piece – that’s all no saturing required – would take you like 30 minutes tops. «No sorry can’t do it for less than $ 700.» I say, «Ok how much for the ring?» They say «$ 100.» I try to smile but how can one smile when one knows they’re being RIPPED OFF or laughed at. So I thank them for their time and collect my things and leave (for good).
I head to Mansoor and Gore in Palo Alto (should have gone there in the first place). Wanna know their quote – for the bling necklace $ 80 and for the ring $ 0!!! Yes you read that correctly. They did the ring for FREE and cleaned it on top of that. I saved more than $ 700. Now that’s what I call a great deal! Mansoor and Gore’s work is AMAZING. They are the best and I will not go anywhere else, trust no one else… I have found my favorite jeweler!!! They are honest, fair, and take pride in their work… TW&Sons soooo long baby.
