QFC

I am not one for writing negative reviews, but I just can’t hold it in anymore. I HAVE to say something about the QFC in Mercer Island. This review, mind you, is purely for the service.
Is it just me, or are the employees here (particularly those at the register, and those bagging the groceries), outright JERKS?! I may hate this more than I hate the Renton Walmart. The moment you step up to the register, the person working there says NOTHING. I literally mean NOTHING. And when you’re handed the receipt, not a single word. No «thank you», no NOTHING! One woman snapped at me because I wasn’t fast enough at the self-​checkout. Next time I won’t keep my mouth shut. I won’t. Why next time? you wonder. I have no choice but to go here on some days because it’s closest to home, but I might start taking the drive over to Fred Meyer on certain days. I am SICK of the service here. Sick of it. If this keeps up, I’ll just pick up a phone and contact Kroger directly, with names of management and employees who make the shopping experience hell.
I want to add this for the people working at the deli, however: Thank you. Thank you for putting on a friendly face. It really does make my day.

If I could give zero stars I would. On Saturday, October 3^rd my husband and I stopped at QFC to pickup a couple items. We park in the handicap which is right by the door. We finished in about 10 minutes. Upon exiting the store there was a small shopping cart on my passengers fender of my new car. I moved it to find some marks and a small dent. I called the manager he took a picture the information etc. he said their insurance would be getting ahold of me in ³⁄₅ business days. Yesterday their insurance company Kroger Corp. contacted me and they take no responsibility for the incident and believe the store and employees are not at fault. I guess it’s ok to just leave shopping carts thru out the parking lot. Whoever was to lazy to put the cart back in the store should be tarred and feathered. QFC needs to get their act together and manage their store better to accommodate their customers. The store is to small the parking is to small and they cannot handle the influx of people that have moved to the island in the last ³⁄₅ years. Their planning for growth on Mercer Island is lacking. One would think Kroger Mgmt. would have done better planning. For our community. I guess they just don’t care. Next year we will welcome a new store and we are all looking forward to them joining our community.

I’ll be honest I’m not a big QFC and New Seasons will give them a huge challenge when they are open. (October 2015).
That being said the store supports the community which is more than I can say for other business. George has always been there when called upon and will be there in the future as well.
Yes the meat department has opportunities to improve but the can can only do the best with what they are provided by corporate as evidenced. Have a problem with QFC remember that it’s part of Kroger a huge conglomerate.
Your selections are determined by a pay to play philosophy. A prime example is the wine department that is filled with Kroger private labels and sugary wines. The liquor is provided by two distributors who sell nothing but what is on quota from these 2 companies.
Again that being said they support the community and I buy my frozen and dry goods there.
Ironically if you look at the 1 start reviews. They all come from people off the Island and look to bear an agenda.
You have to understand what we’re saddled with and that is a corporate dome driven beast and the reason for the 5 star review is for the people who work there who are extremely and professional and these changes came around with the changes in management.

I no longer shop at this QFC but have so many stories to tell you about my experience! My friends live here so i visit them several times a month. Because its so close to the freeway, i stop by QFC before i head home. I’ve been here so many times with so many different problems, i have stopped coming to this QFC all together. Reading other reviews on here, i can see im not the only one who’s been horribly insulted by the quality and service of this Store. (Funny, quality is in their name).
First off, the customer service is bogus! They are fake, unfriendly and rude! I was standing around for service for so long and when i finally got some assistance, they didn’t greet me with a smile, just a hey, hows it going in a very depressing tone. I felt like i had bothered them since the lady was busy at U-​scan and at customer service and her attitude didnt show me she cared about my problem. possibly she’s overworked but no need to treat someone like that. I also feel as if the employees at the checkout discriminate on younger people, mainly collage students like myself. I see them greeting the elderly here alot but i don’t get the same respect when i walk into the store or the same help as they do.
Service in the departments like Meat or seafood is so-​so. I don’t stop by the deli anymore since their food makes me sick. (Seems like all QFC deli’s make me sick, wonder why). I avoid the bakery since most of the time i can’t get help and produce i avoid since ive bought moldy berries that i was told were fresh. So i come home with a small selection of food when i want to come home stocked with veggies and fruits and delicious meats!
Parking here is dangerous and unsafe! I’ve been almost hit 13 times within 3 months, parking is a nightmare and ive seen a elderly man back into someones shopping kart before. I always make sure to look twice both ways at this store.
The selection here is decent but the isles can be small and hard to get around people who just rather stand in the middle and be rude. So many rude people all in one store. Its not the best place to shop at. The prices here are not as good as Safeway and its hard finding anything natural or organic that is on sale. I wish they’d bring more natural foods in. QFC is over priced and i end up buying only a couple things since nothing i ever buy goes on sale.
The checkout lanes can be slow and the store gets busy very quickly. I end up getting stressed when i shop here more than anywhere else. The cashiers checking me out tend to not care or say 1 thing. There is only 1 person that i like at this store and its not the managers. There is this really sweet guy in the meat department who looks to be about my age who is always friendly to me. Otherwise i don’t care for anyone in that store.
And the last thing i will note is the manager. I don’t know if she was the head manager or not but after trying to get assistance after i was charged twice for one box of cereal and was told i had to wait for the manager to come down. I waited 20 minutes before i could speak with her. she was short with blonde hair and just gave me a attitude like i was a liar since i returned the next day after discovering this error on my receipt. She gave me back my money but with how horrible customer service is at this store, why didn’t i stop coming to QFC sooner?
I give this place 1 star because i am not happy with how i was treated. I don’t ever want to feel like dirt or come home with moldy food and foods that make me sick to eat. And the worst part is, they will probably never change their ways even after reading this review.

I’ve only been here once — this past Wednesday, in fact, — so my review is based solely on this one experience. And it was rockin’!
I needed a brisket for Passover, and I wanted to get a kosher one. I called this store and got excellent driving directions there. Once there, I noted immediately that this store is way smaller than the Q near my home in Redmond. It didn’t seem right, that this store has more kosher foods and meats than the larger QFC stores elsewhere. (And I soon found out, it’s not just the kosher foods. I found in the produce dept some Crimini mushroom caps stuffed with cheeses, and ready-​made snack trays and meals and dips in the deli island, and other foods throughout the store that I have only seen here, at this Mercer Island location, that I’ve not seen at other Q’s in Redmond or Bellevue).
In the produce dept I bumped into an employee (damn, I should have gotten his name) who was so personable and friendly and helpful. I noted I was disoriented, not having been in this particular store before, and he helped guide me to the depts I needed for the items I was looking for. They were out of dill, which I need for my soup, so this guy went to the back and came back with a few packages, saying they were just unloaded from the truck. Meanwhile, I explored the produce, as I live off fresh vegetables, and I admired the bins of veggies and fruits, all fresh and well tended to.
I ventured to the kosher meat dept and noted that the briskets there had an expiration date of a few days thence. I planned on making the dish in 4 days. The lady behind the counter there said that the meat cutter didn’t get in for at least another 30 minutes, but would cut a fresh brisket in the back. When she returned, I noted that the slab was too big, I needed only 4 lbs. So back she went to slice off some, and re-​wrap. She was incredibly helpful. Damn, I should have gotten her name, too.
I wandered the store and noted all the cool items that this store sells that I’ve not seen elsewhere. The place may be smaller than the grocery stores I’m used to but boy, it packs a punch. I really liked the bakery area with all the Jewish breads and pastries. They had an island of ready-​made salads I’ve never seen before. They had beautiful Easter cakes, too, and an aisle of Easter basket stuff and confections. And more Passover items than I’ve seen in any store in the area.
The Starbucks located in this store was super, too, staffed by a lovely lady.
As I was leaving the store, a few employees were outside, chatting up a regular customer who was somewhat elderly. I could tell that there are a lot of regular customers who patronize the store and I liked how the staff is on a first name basis with them, and how people here seem to know and like each other, from the Starbucks lady to the produce guy to the cashier.

I have been a qfc MI customer for many years…30. The last 5 times I have bought beef at the market, it was gamey. I buy the tenderloin. They are always happy to give my money back, BUT that does not solve the disappointment at our meal.
I won’t ever buy beef again at QFC. You would think they would get better but no one really cares. Sadly, that is the problem at QFC. People I am afraid I have to say, don’t have the «I care «attitude. There is always a new person at the counter.
Funny…I asked the fellow at the counter, when I bought this tonight, «is this a good piece of meat» He said «looks good to me»…

Sometimes I stop here for groceries on the way home from work, since I have a job on the island. It’s a qfc and selection wise, this location is alright (issaquah has better stock).
Writing this review to talk about the way I was treated this morning. I parked in front of qfc so I could go in and get a drink and snacks for my work day. I wasn’t even out of my car before a lady (by the uniform, presumably a manager) who proceeded to verbally abuse me and say I was taking up her customers parking spaces and that other local businesses couldn’t park here. I presume this was based off of my uniform. Regardless of my intention of being a customer, she told me we were never allowed to park here in uniform, and accused me of being a delinquent among other nasty things. I decided not to get my snacks there that morning.
Well QFC, bye bye. You just lost someone who was a customer here several times a week. I’ll be filing a complaint with the company for poor management. My only regret is that I didn’t get the woman’s name, honestly I was in shock at how rude and hostile she was towards me.

I love QFC! Even though the food is a bit pricier than Albertsons, it’s also fresher! Very convenient location and very friendly employees who are always getting people through lines quickly.
I love the deli, fresh wraps made daily.

The fresh meat here is just disgusting, slimy and looks old. Even the seafood looks hideous. Although I come here for canned goods in a pinch or the bakery I would never eat anything fresh here. Not just that but the deli food looks like it sat there for a very long time… Getting old and crusty. Gross.
Doesn’t help the parking lot is a total nightmare either :(wish mercer island had a better/​fresher/​cleaner grocery store rather than this QFC or albertsons

I have a love and hate relationship with QFC…
It’s too bad this is not my usual grocery store, especially since I only live 2 blocks away. One reason I rarely make a stop here is because the produce section is less than desirable. Most of the time I find bruised and browned fruits and vegetables. It’s almost like this is the last stop for the produce trucks, and its the bottom of the barrel crap that’s available. BUT their deli is pretty awesome, their salad selection all the way to their less than $ 8 whole roasted chicken always keeps me coming back. And the deli staff are also super friendly.

I used to stop here a lot when I worked on the Island. Easy to pick up something for lunch or groceries before heading home. But the service is lacking and now I rarely stop anymore — I’d much rather stop in Bellevue.
Usually the employees are just talking to each other rather than a friendly hello to the customers.

This is the QFC on the north end of Mercer Island. This grocery store is open ²⁴⁄₇ which is super convenient since most of the restaurants don’t stay open that late on the Island.
The QFC has self-​checkout which is nice. Unlike Seattle you don’t have to pay for bags so you can just grab either a plastic or paper bag, or you can use your own bag.
Some of the non-​sale prices here are rather outrageous. A box of ready to eat oatmeal packets was like $ 3.99 retail «bargain price» when I regularly see these 2 for $ 5 at a Safeway. I would definitely get a QFC card to get the discounts.
However, the inventory is not bad and I definitely don’t have an excuse for not eating now since they’re open ²⁴⁄₇!

As of my writing of this review, I’m the duchess for check-​ins. Here’s the thing: we don’t do our regular grocery shopping here. It is much too expensive for that! However, it is close to where we live, so we go by QFC to pick up something we missed at our regular weekly grocery shopping. All too often this means we stop by 3 to 7 times per week.
If you can purchase the sale items, some of their items on sale are a really good price. They also have a large selection and have really expanded their «specialty» items (ie, kosher, gluten-​free, vegan, etc.) This is another reason we stop by frequently, they do carry specialty items it can be hard to find unless you to go a specialty food store (ie, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, PCC, Madison Market, etc.).
I have purchased from almost all their departments for various reasons. Their cake decorator is amazing. They regular stuff she provides is so fancy and intricate, and she really makes an effort on special orders. They floral department is hard to track someone down in and I’ve had only tepid customer service from them. It can be hit and miss with their cashiers. Some are bubbly and nice all the time, some can be moody (great sometimes, cranky others) and some obviously would rather work elsewhere. In general, lately they’ve been very friendly. They may have worked on their friendliness due to complaints about how very unfriendly they used to be.
I have interacted with the management for various reasons (when I wanted to find a seasonal item, when I was trying to procure an item to take to my kids’ school to demonstrate some science — I am a scientist after all). The management has always bent over backwards for me. I’m no one special, but they recognize me after just a single interaction and always greet me and are very helpful.
They recently underwent a renovation, which allowed them to expand several sections, which is why they now have such a great selection of so many things. While I don’t care for only being able to enter the store from the hard-​to-​find parking side of the lot, I do appreciate the new layout and new items in the store. Prices haven’t changed.

Today one of the older woman at the self check out intentionally threw dust on me from the counter.
I see they don’t appreciate customers. I prefer driving to Bellevue instead.

One of two grocery stores on the island. Too overpriced to do full on grocery shopping, I have gone there to grab an item or two, usually something I need for dinner, or a snack. They don’t have the best selection for being one of two stores on a little island. The staff is a mixture of people who do their job, and people who go out of their way to be obnoxiously rude and offensive. I avoid this place at all costs, but sometimes I have to run to the store last minute, I may start going to the other store for that though.

The crabs at QFC are divine — very meaty and super fresh! I was full after eating only half of a crab. Plus, they’re open 24hrs so I can rely on them for late night «Where’s the milk?» disasters!

My friend had her sweet 16^th birthday party, and purchased a cake from here! It was DIVINE. Two layers of chocolate cake, with one layer of vanilla cake sandwiched in the middle. Then, two layers of chocolate ganache, and solid white/​milk chocolate on the oustide. To finish it off, chocolate whipped cream smoothed around the edges. Delicious! A bit sweet, but wouldn’t it be off if it wasn’t?
Her mother also purchased our next morning’s breakfast from here: almond poppyseed muffins, bagels & cream cheese, and fruit (apples, grapes, and bananas). I had ½ a bagel, and it was great! Just how I like my bagels, soft on the inside, with a nice crust on the outside.
QFC is so reliable!
The next day, I ordered my homecoming date’s boutinerre here. :D

When I HAVE to shop on the island, I go to the QFC on the southend end. It’s a much nicer store, with WAY better service. Albertson’s always smells like rotten food, and the northend end QFC has some of the consistently WORST customer service in King County. Especially the bakery, I will (and do) drive to Bellevue to avoid the hassle of trying to get any help at all at the bakery! Customers are INVISIBLE, I’m not making it up! I go in with friends, tell them to stand there and see how long it takes to get service. They all agree, people behind the counter don’t even glance in your direction. Repeated service calls for help don’t work, either — the employees simply won’t be bothered to spend 2 seconds removing a dessert from the case. Years of this… wonder how many rotted cakes and desserts they must throw out… they certainly don’t want to SELL them!

This place is ALWAYS busy and NEVER has enough people working the front. It’s really irritating that there are only a couple grocery stores on the island anyway but the «express lanes» are never open and they have 2 checkers. Time to invest in those self check outs you guys!

Once upon a time QFC was a great grocery chain, offered wonderful selections at good prices (not the cheapest but respectable) Then they got bought by Kroger and the Q (Quality) got replaced by K (Krappy).
Some QFCs are still OK — the U Village store has an overwhelming amount of choices, so does the downtown Bellevue, but this north end MI store is sadly lacking. They keep removing the things I like from their inventory and it always seems they have only one or two checkers working when I go in there. The selections are actually better at the Rainier Avenue store (although its always crowded and out of the way for me).
It also appears that QFC marks up the price on everything and then reduces the price to an almost acceptable price for their «advantage customers» making you think like you got a deal when in reality it’s like an old Mad Magazine joke — mark the price up ridiculously, then mark it down to the old price and call it a sale price — Mad used to call that the «law of supply and idiots».
A couple years ago Metropolitan Market was supposed to build a store in the north end shopping center but it nver happened. I’ve given up waiting for that. If you are on MI you have 4 choices — go off-​island, shop at Albertson’s (yuck), suck it up and do the north end QFC or go to the south end QFC where you will find a friendlier store with better choices (although the same annoying «advantage card» pricing).
Guess I need to move back to the mainland and Bert’s Red Apple in Madison Park. They’ve spoiled me.
