Our services range from Tinting and Films for Sun control, Decorative, Graphic, Safety and Security to Window Coverings: Blinds, Shutters and Sun Screens.

History

Established in 1980.

We were founded by the Turley Family in 1980. Hartly Turley started the company in 1980 and began as a mobile tinter. His first location was at the car wash on Dobson and University. He moved to Extension and University in 1985 and converted a old coin car wash into bays and offices. He sold the business to his father Newell Turley in late 1991 and Newell hired current owner David Ewing. In 1994 that neighborhood became to deprevated and Walgreens bought the property. We moved to 3820 E Main and have been there since. The current owner came to work for MITS inc in the spring of 1992 and purchased it from Newell Turley in March of 1998 and has been at the Helm since. David grew the business from a $ 200,000 a year business to a 1.2 million dollar a year business in 2007 and has weathered the recession and is again thriving!

The Business is ran by David and his Wife Leslie and Son Jacob with seasonal help.

The CEO David Ewing, has been a small business owner since 1980. His 1st business was providing Auto Detail services for Auto Dealers. In 1988 David sold his business «Ewing Elite Detail» in Denver, CO and moved to AZ. He worked for different Film dealers until he came to work for MITS, and owner Newell Turley in the spring 1992. David and Newell made a deal that when Newell retired he’d sell David MITS, and he did so in the Spring of 1998. David and family Grew the business from a small Auto Tint shop to include full service Film & Coverings for Home and Office as well. The numbers grew rapidly from about $ 200,000 to over $ 1,200,000.

David, his wife Leslie and Son Jacob Ewing are the Core of MITS. David and Leslie have 8 children and 6 Grand Children and enjoy their family time. David, Leslie and several Family members enjoy MMA and JJ and have Black Belts in MMA with East West MMA. David now holds a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. They Love God, Family, Exercise, The Outdoors, Music & Movies

These guys are great! I had my Miata in to have the 2 side windows tinted, everything went smooth and the results are great, the car is much cooler (and looks cooler, too!). They explained everything to me over the phone when I made the appointment and again when I got there.
About 2 months later I brought my other car in to have the 4 sides and the back window done. The car is 18 years old and becuase my kids sit back there and we have those shades with suction cups on them I haven’t rolled those windows down in a couple of years. So the back window regulators were worn out from age and disuse (this was confirmed by the body shop next door and my mechanic) which made my freshly tinted windows fall down into the doors! Thankfully Leslie and the other people there worked with me to make sure the scratched film was replaced and that I was a satified customer.
It is always great when a transaction goes smoothly but the true test of a good business is how they handle things when they go sideways. Made in the Shade has proven to be a shop that does high quality work and makes sure their customers are satified.

I bought the $ 79 Groupon after my boyfriends cousin got her tint job done and I was impressed with her results. I went in yesterday to get my tint job done. The standard Groupon covers the lightest shade, there is a small charge to get a darker tint. In total, it cost me an additional $ 40 ($ 30 for the darker shade and $ 10 for the small side windows.) I was quoted a wait time of 3 hours but it only took about an hour an a half for the job to get done. While I was in the waiting room, an elderly man came in to inquire on an odd request. I overheard Leslie tell the man that they normally dont do this job since it required the film to be cut into a circle and they usually cut film in squares. Even though they dont typically do these jobs she offered to find a solution and help the man out. 10 minutes later she came out with the finished tint film for him. To me, this gesture spoke volumes. As to where a lot of business would have told the man that they couldnt help him, she went above and beyond to figure something out for him. This is what I call excellent customer service! As for the tint job itself, there are no bubbles in my car and I’m 1000% happy with the results.

Best Groupon I’ve purchased so far. I paid for the upgraded tinting and it was worth every penny. It looks great, and my car no longer feels like an oven. They told me it would be 2 – 3 hours to complete and it took the full 3 hours, so be prepared to kill some time. It will be worth the wait!

I called and wanted some (more) information on the different styles of tint, which I was given, and the information was much better than the information on their site. That makes sense, though. I was looking to tint the windows of my new car, and had asked my boyfriend to help me out. I had told him that I looked up the information about Made In the Shade, and he told me to go to them after doing some research. I was able to get an online quote for my windows and could use that when I went to the shop. It took about 2.5 hours to get the tinting done, but that was within their 4-​hour limit, so I was happy. They went over the different tint styles at the shop, but I had already picked the one that I wanted. I went with the 2nd best– the Pronamo tint. It goes really well with the coloring of my car, and I paid the extra $ 30 to get the darker tint on the back windows. The lady at the desk (I forget her name :-() asked if I had an issue seeing– sometimes darker tint in the rear can make it difficult to see out of the back window for some people. I told her that no, I didn’t have any issues. The workers were really laid back and I got a great deal and a great tint! My boyfriend was impressed, too, because they cut the tint around the backup light rather than just tinting the whole back window (and covering up the backup light).

Used a Groupon deal. Great service! I was satisfied overall. Woman was very helpful and knowledgeable on shading (something I am not), and made me feel very comfortable with my purchase. As a single woman I feel very uncomfortable going to pay services like this because I always feel like someone wants to mess me over. Not this time though:)

I bought a groupon for this business and was very happy!
My car windows look amazing and I didn’t have any problems getting an appointment or getting my windows done. It was easy to get in contact and they fit me in during my tight schedule. I decided to sit and wait for my car to be done and they said 2 – 3 hours but it only took 1 hour!
The groupon said that darker tints would be more so I had no problem upgrading as I knew I would want something better than what is standard but feel I got a great deal knowing that window tinting is typically hundreds of dollars.
All around happy!

I bought a Groupon and it clearly states darker shades are extra so it wasn’t a surprise. I called to set up an appt. and the woman also reminds you that darker tints are extra as well as the smaller windows in the back. I opted to have darker shade with the back windows my appt was last week and the job was great they were very accommodating and I couldn’t be happier. The tint looks awesome, no bubbles and no issue’s. I would happily use their services again at the regular price. Also, I called other places for a quote even with all the upgrades it’s still 40 – 50 dollars cheaper than the price quoted at other places.

I paid for an $ 80 groupon for all 5 windows, not including the extra little slabs connected to back window which is an extra charge. Groupon says any shade but actually gets only the lightest shade for all windows. Had to pay an additional $ 40. :-[ Could have paid less money and time somewhere else. Live and learn.

Really impressive business is all I can say.
I had reschedule my appt but they were more than willing to honor the deals they sent the previous 2 weeks even though it explicitly stated that deals are only good for 7 days at a time.
Once I got there, there was a lil wait but nothing outrageous. We talked about the products, my circumstances (only keeping the car for about a year) and my budget. We agreed on a price and I handed over my keys.
A time was forecasted on when the job should be done, I went across the street to eat and then went for a walk in the area.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the work was done about 45 mins early when I came back.
No issues with the work done; make sure to follow their no rolling down window rule. I put masking tape on all the window rollers for 3 days.
I would recommend this place to anyone.

I used this place about 10 years ago. My experience was good so I came back when I purchased my new car. The installation was quick and professional and the product is quality.
*Note: I just purchased a brand new vehicle. At the time it only had about 300 miles on it. After the tinting with «Made in the Shade» I noticed 3 scratches on the exterior of the driver’s window. I brought my car back to look at it. The owner said they only work with the inside of the window so those scratches must have been there before they serviced it. Also, they advised I probably did not see the scratches without the tint but now the darkness of the tint made them more noticeable. I cannot verify the truth of these statements but thought it should be noted in case others have similar circumstances.

I had a really great experience here, they did a fantastic job on my car.
I got there a little early, but they took my car in anyway. Nice. :) I didn’t have a ride to go anywhere so I sat in their air conditioned waiting room. There was a TV and some magazines. The only complaint I could possibly have is that there weren’t convenient outlets to charge my phone. I was there for 2.5−3 hours so it would have been nice, but you can’t change how the place is built so I managed.
They were so nice there. No upselling, just the facts. I had a Groupon and paid a few extra dollars to get my small triangular windows tinted, but it was cheap.
I was selling the car so I got the least expensive tint there was and it was still awesome. I’m planning on bring my Mercedes back to them so I can have those done too.
There is a restaurant and bar across the street so if you get too bored there are options. The little diner is actually pretty good!
Definitely recommend. My tint looks awesome!

First of all we just moved here to AZ and we are just getting use to the heat and how to embrace it. Lucky for us, we met this nice couple several months ago at a coffee place and they mentioned they owned a window tinting company. Well now that it’s blazing hot we figured we could not continue driving with untinted CA windows. We remembered that their shop was on Main St. We met Leslie and she explained the various tints. She gave us a great price without having to use the coupon. After they finished our first SUV, we turned around and brought in our second one. They did an amazing job. We can really feel a decrease in temperature in both vehicles while driving. They offer a good warranty. Just be sure you follow directions in that your vehicle must remain outdoors for three days following installation to properly and completely dry.

So far, so good. Leslie returned my call within about 30 minutes and provided me with some great information. I plan to stop in later this week to see the shop and decide if that’s where I want to go for window tinting on my 2012 Toyota Yaris. I will update my post if I end up choosing this business. But the initial phone conversation was awesome. Given the negative reviews here, I felt I should post my positive experience.

Ignore the negative reviews. I am having my truck windows tinted and have nothing but good to say. Very professional courteous staff members. If you buy a coupon be smart enough to read the fine print before you start negating a business!!! The coupon I have purchased is as stated and also was reminded of the small print when I made the appointment.
