First time visiting last night wanted to try a mom & pop place for a change. Very clean restaurant. Had enchilada’s with sour cream sauce just ok at best the sour cream looked whipped and was tastless however, the rice and beans were wonderful. Service was SLOW10 minutes before our order was taken, and 15 minutes to get our check and we asked the waitress not to leave so she could run my card. We watched other servers zip around to their tables but our waitress was usually no where to found. Will not go back very disappointed

My sister and I ventured here for the first time yesterday and was totally disappointed in not only the food but the management/owner Martinez himself. My sister was brought a glass of water with a bug floating in the glass, our food was in my opinion horrible and not worthy of being served to anyone. She ordered fajitas for herself and the beef came out very questionable looking and not much at all on her sizzling plate. We asked for a manager and over comes Martinez and he starts to motion with his hands near my sister’s face and appearing very confrontational with us. He told me if I didn’t want my food that I could get up and leave, very rudely and hostile. Sadly to say our first and last time at this establishment. I do not recommend this place at all.

Lived in Mesquite 8 years and had never been here. Was surprised how good it was. Had the carne asada, and wife commented on how good the flour tortillas were. Will be coming back soon.

This is my 1st time here and the décor was true to the type of restaurant it is. I think the work is very nice to the eyes and all while eating I couldn’t stop looking around. It seem to be a big establishment even though it wasn’t busy because of it being a holiday. I ordered a half order of steak/chicken nachos. The chips were kinda small with either meat and cheese on top. Beans were also on top of the nachos– tasty. A side of guacamole, sour cream, and jalapeños came with my order but I can’t remember if I had to ask for one or the other and all were ate. The meat had a excellent flavor and I would order it again. The service was light because of it being a holiday and it was one person at the door and one person being the waitress. She was nice and attentive even though she got the drinks, took your order, took your money, and was cleaning the tables. Can anyone say multi– task. She did a great job– just hoping it’s not like that for her every day. I recommend this spot on the décor, the food, and the service I received on Dr. Martin Luther King Day. P. S.- looking it seemed to me that they had a special area. I don’t know if it’s for booking or renting out but it’s behind a close door. I will let you know WHEN I go back– if you don’t get to it first.

The food is great here! Defintely always fresh and your food is always hot when it comes out. I Iove the fact that they have handmade flour tortillas that is one of my favorite things from this place. Another is their chicken fajitas, they also have a friendly staff. Overall great authentic food!

I love Martinez for every reason you can think of. Everything on the menu is great. I go for tortilla soup at lunch, Pechuga a la Parilla if I’m trying to stay away from carbs, and any of the enchilada dinners if I’m not. I love that their food is consistent, the servers are friendly and attentive. Prices are fair, and they are so accommodating when I call about picking up food for holiday events. Pride shines in this family-owned establishment.

Martinez is good, not the best I’ve ever had, but it’ll satisfy any Tex-Mex craving you may have. Growing up having ate authentic Mexican food all my life, I’m not a big fan of Tex-Mex. Their food is good, their service is good, and their ambiance is nice. I recommend it if you’re in mesquite, but there are definitely much better places around.

It was good. The salsa wasn’t super hot. The queso rates a 2⁄5. There was a hair in our shredded cheese. The lady nicely replaced it and apologized. It is okay. Would come here if family members were all meeting here, but probably not again for another date night with the hubby.

I’ve been coming here for years now and the food and service have always been decent. The waiters and waitresses are nice and in the past, the owner has been very friendly to us. The food is decent but the whole experience is great. It’s never too loud. They also have a few befits rain options which is a big plus for me. I will continue to come here whenever I’m in town.

I’ve lived in Mesquite for the past 7 years and I’ve eaten here at least once a week during that time. Every time I eat here, the service is embarrassingly slow, unless I have one particular waiter. There’s one good waiter in the place, but the waitresses are prone to disappearing for long periods of time. Never going here again. Had another bad experience at Tinos which is identical to this place, and I’m fed up. There is MUCH better Tex-Mex anywhere else, homemade and otherwise.

The scores for this place are unfairly low. This is a 3 and ½ star place but I am giving it the benefit because this is the kind of old school Tex-Mex joint that serves up comfort food, familiarity(even if you have never been there before but are a Texan) and good yet simple food. They served up good guacamole and good cheese and onion enchiladas. These are my two Tex-Mex classics and act a kind of test of such places and they definitely passed. The service was good but we were there when they were not very crowded but our drinks our gauc and our food came out quickly and we were refilled properly etc. The only negatives about the place is the fact that is not open on Sunday and the mixed bag that is theme park food court look of the place which might be so lame as to somehow become interesting. This is an unpretentious, honest, old school Tex-Mex joint. This is likely a pace enjoyed by Mesquite locals who have never even heard of Unilocal and that is refreshing to me.

Been going for years and it is always excellent. The staff is very attentive and our server, Jesus knows me and my order even though I only come in once or twice a month. The fajita quesdaillas are always my favorite. The chips & salsa, tortillas and gauacamole are excellent. The place is clean and the staff is always nice and friendly. This is a true gem in the DFW for Tex-Mex!

If you like to dine at places where the owner of an establishment refuses to back the local schools then by all means eat here. The owner had offered to supply our PTA with some food for our school dance and then the day of the dance he backed out. Dont waste your money eating in this place.

Martinez is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Mesquite for three reasons: 1. The homemade tortillas 2. The delicious chips 3. The ease of getting in and out as well as being taken good care of by the waitstaff They have always been helpful, the food is always piping hot and very good when it is served, the tortillas, again — homemade and amazing! I really like this place and now that I work in the area again, I will get to eat there more often. The lunch specials are great! I spend less than $ 10 for a full meal(drink, too) every time. That’s hard to beat for good Mexican food.

I’d have to say I disagree with the previous reviews, I never had a bad experience from when I’ve been to Martinez. Or maybe I just went at the right times. Great, great salsa(so good that I packaged it in a mason jar and shipped it to NY), unlimited fresh chips, hearty portions that are hard to finish but not overbearing that make you feel sick afterwards. I love that it’s family owned and that the prices are good. They will never compete ‘value’-wise with a big chain, but why eat at El Fenix when you can get legit home-cooking here?

My family eats here often. after our dinner tonight we will NOT be returning. We arrived for a nice family dinner to a pretty much empty dining room. We were taken to our seats immediately, seated and given menus… and this is where it all goes down hill and quickly. We patiently wait for our waiter to come get our drink orders. I kid you not, 5 waitress pass our table in the middle of the restaurant to get drunk orders of tables that were seated AFTER us. Needless to say 15 minutes and a very heated step dad making it known we are STILLWAITING for drinks, the seasoned waitstaff send the innocent new Guy to take our drink orders. we requested to speak to a manager and we were told she will be over here shortly. Shortly came and passed, she never showed. We went to the front and the OWNERSWIFE was at the register. For giggles I requested to speak with the owner or a manager again and the wife claimed there was no manager on duty and the owner wasn’t there. as I said my family frequent this restaurant, we’ve met the owner, his wife, spoke in depth about the restaurant, our personal lives etc. she claimed she was only the cashier. Knowing very well who she was I informed her of the unacceptable service we received, informed her that we weren’t the only table this has happened too tonight, still she was unapologetic. We didn’t want anything free or anything, just an apology. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. Seeing as every time we have gone in there the waitstaff only waits on those whom they want too when the owner isn’t in. The food is slipping, it used to be some of the best Tex-mex food in the area, and now its barely mediocre. Note to the waitstaff… just because you are speaking a different language than the customers, we still know when you are talking about us when you & your buddies are staring and pointing at tables while doing it…

Food is mediocre. I guess that is just bc I don’t like Tex-Mex. I miss my Mexican food from Memphis. :( The wait staff is nice. That is what I give the two stars for…
