The Blood Bus

This may be a non-​profit company, but they pay themselves very very well. The CEO is pulling in 700K per year. That is just what he is showing on the books. They make a lot of money from your blood donation, while letting you think that you are giving blood to a charity.
There are 26 executive officers in this company, with the lowest salary at a quarter of a million dollars per year.

If you can, do your daily good deed and donate the red stuff! I just donated on Sunday night and it was a simple process. Start to finish only took about 25 mins. What can I say my veins run faster than Niagara Falls.
Despite this busy foot traffic location, they said this corner brings in the least amount of donations in South Florida. Come on locals– let’s step it up! I got escorted from the sidewalk into the bus to fill out paperwork. All the techs were very friendly and appreciative. They have snacks to replenish blood sugar and comfy chairs to ‘lounge’ on while donating. Just a warning, the bus was blasting A/​C so bring a sweater if you get cold easy like me! You also get a code that you can check your cholesterol and blood type online 5 days later.
My hat goes off to all the volunteers that make these donation buses possible. As a sign of good karma, somebody gave me their awesome take away pizza from Michael’s Genuine at the bar I hit up later that night– score!

If you’ve ever seen a movie during the weekend at the Regal Cinemas on Lincoln Road, chances are you’ve seen The Blood Bus. But have you ever stopped to check it out?
I used to be terrified of needles and blood. I started donating in college (I still make them cover my arm with a paper towel so I don’t see the red stuff coming out) (a) to get over my fear, (b) because I have a rare blood type and © to continue my dad’s donation legacy.
60% of the population is able to donate blood but only 5% actually do. Most of them are girls, from my personal experience. I know so many guys that will brag about the bones they’ve broken or how much they can bench, but are still afraid of a little needle. Man up! Lol.
It usually takes 30 – 45 minutes for me to complete the whole process. Not only will you get some good karma and self-​satisfaction, but you’ll get a free movie ticket and drinks and snacks that you may or may not want to shove in your purse and bring in to enjoy during the movie you’ll see with said ticket. I also got a ticket for two to the improv last time (drink minimum required). The Blood Bus is usually parked on Alton Road b/​w 16^th & Lincoln Road, Thursday-​Sunday evenings.
