Holiday Inn Express Middletown/Newport

My fiancé and I consistently stay at Holiday Inn Hotels now that most have remodeled from the old school look! They also have a points program that gives us little perks. This Holiday Inn has a great restaurant with live entertainment, cool bar and bar tenders, along with slammin food! Don’t forget to give your AAA card it gives you an additional discount!!! BTW if your hurtin from the entertainment the next morning… room service was fabulous!

My mom stayed there a few weeks ago and had her iPad stolen right out of her zippered up bag, which was in the locked room. There were a few things about the incident that seem a bit peculiar.
First, when in line to check in there was a shady man with no bags also waiting to check in. He engaged my mom and her friend in an inappropriate manner, but not to the point to raise a red flag. Second, this man also happened to be at the Chilis bar the same time my mom and her friend were at the bar, again continuing with inappropriate behavior. This is when the red flag really started to pop up. Coincidence? Mysteriously a few of his drinks ended up on my mom’s bill! The bartender acted shady about the ordeal and claimed she thought the man was with my mom and her friend, yet the man was sitting no where near them. Red Flag at full mast. Third, when my mom went to discuss her stollen iPad with the Holiday Inn staff, they agreed that the description of the man sounded very familiar. Fourth, the police officer that filed the report for my mom mentioned that he had been to this Holiday Inn frequently for other thefts. Fifth, the staff member named Brunella, who checked my mom and her friend in, claimed she couldn’t remember my mom and her friend, and that she was too tired.
If you ask me, the whole thing sounds shady. Bottom line, if my mom had not stayed at this Holiday Inn, she would still have her iPad.
Finally, be aware if you choose this hotel. Lock your stuff up or don’t bring anything valuable into your room just in case.

Staying at the Holiday Inn Express is supposs ed to make you smarter…
If that is the case, then their staff needs to stay there too!
I made a reservation a few weeks in advance of my Saturday night ⁷⁄₁₈ stay on
& booked a room with a king bed and a sofa bed.
I call the hotel while enroute to advise/​confirm my arrival and when I get there, lo and behold… they don’t have the room I reserved… which really screwed up my weekend… but they did give me a $ 100 off the room they gave me… big deal!
As a regular Marriott/​Hyatt Orbitz customer who decided to buy into the hyped up advertising of
and H.I. Express and give them a chance at not only my personal travel business but potentially my staff’s business travel as well as my tennis organization’s business… that ship has sailed… on time back to the reliable world of Hyatt/​Marriott.

Hotel was very clean and staff was very accommodating! During the breakfast rush the General Manager, Derek Vance, personally took the time to come to my family’s table to introduce himself and make sure we were enjoying our stay and made some excellent recommendations of attractions to visit. We will definitely be staying here again!

We are no strangers to Newport and have stayed in quite a few of the hotels nearby. That said, we were in town for a Newport wedding and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express this weekend; I would say it was among our nicest hotel stays ever. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. There is free WiFi. The pool was nice and clean. The fitness center is among the better ones I’ve seen in hotels. The breakfast was fresh and there was a good variety of options. The location is convenient to Newport as well as more local restaurants and shopping… all for a fraction of what one would pay for a hotel in Newport proper. A great place, we will likely return for future stays.

Labor Day weekend wedding stay, and I heard there were multiple other wedding blocks that weekend. Judging by the numerous staff members, and the way they were hustling, they were definitely slammed.
Friendly service upon check-​in. Room was clean, and everything worked fine! They have a mini fridge and microwave in the room which was a convenient touch. Continental breakfast was what is expected, typical oatmeal, eggs, bagels, cereal, etc.
For the price, this hotel definitely is a great option. Our friends stayed in the Marriott Courtyard across the street, paid $ 100 more, for basically the same thing (minus the fact Marriott does not do continental breakfast). Taxi ride to Newport was minutes, and less than $ 20, which is what you’re paying for parking anyways.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. There was a good variety of foods and the cost was included with the price of the room. The room price was reasonable. We plan on staying at Holiday Inn Express again.

Stayed for a couple of nights. The hotel was very clean – both rooms and common areas. Pool and work out room were very nice. Complimentary breakfast is standard was a typical Holiday Inn type. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Had a wonderful time at this hotel. the staff was friendly and attentive. The Continental breakfasts ware also very good as well. Did not have have a chance to try out the pool, though. :(

As an IHG platinum member I stayed here for two weekend nights recently using 35,000 IHG points per night. I selected this hotel because of its Middletown location and convenient access to Newport. I had a one bedroom suite with a pull out sofa bed on the third floor adjacent to the elevator overlooking the front of the hotel. The suite was nice. It included complimentary internet access, small refrigerator and microwave. The hotel had an indoor swimming pool and complimentary breakfast. The complimentary breakfast could be improved. For example the scrambled eggs tasted like powdered eggs. The hard boiled eggs tasted like they were from a preservation jar.
Middletown is clearly a Navy town. Lot’s of Navy people are visible.
The really nice thing about this hotel was the convenience to downtown Newport, which we visited every day for lunch and dinner for all the action.
My original hotel reservation was for three weekend nights. I was able to change my reservation on my second night from three nights to only two nights. I was also able to recover my 35,000 IHG for my third night.
So overall I was pleased with this hotel.

I had to stay here overnight with my family. We had an emergency with my infant son and had to run to Hasbro. I checked out not knowing how long we would be gone. Thankfully we didn’t have to spend the night at the hospital. The holiday inn let us check back in in the middle of the night without charging us.

We had a wedding in Newport over the weekend and this was one of the hotel options on the wedding website.
Here’s my evaluation:
Value: The hotel is about 3 times cheaper than staying in Newport (typical for our weekend was 400/​night and this was 150 per night).
The hotel was very clean, both the rooms and the common areas.
A lot of people have complained about the air conditioning in their rooms. Our room was perfectly fine, but a friend of mine had to change rooms during the middle of the night because his AC was broken, so I take that is a real issue that they have.
Customer service was perfectly fine, no complaints, but I didn’t have much interaction.
They have a nice pool, hot tub and gym area.
The breakfast was pretty lousy. Pretty much all highly fattening options and fake inedible eggs, I’ve never seen a hotel breakfast that doesn’t have bananas or fruit options other than apples. The coffee was also pretty bad.
Parking is easy, and the location is only 12 minutes away from the mansions and the downtown.
All in all I would repeat, but now that I’ve been to the area I would see if something nicer was comperable in terms of price.

Worst experience ever been here twice and both times were horrible. First time we went the hotel was overbooked and lied to us saying there was water damage to the room we booked and had to send out to another hotel. They sent out to Econo Lodge and we ended up leaving that MOTEL because how gross it was. Just this past weekend again bad experience no light bulbs in some of the lamps, the clock was an hour behind which made us all late to a dinner reservation and the AC barely worked (was 90 out). Trying to talk to management was a joke saying they couldn’t refund us any money because we booked through a 3^rd party which we had no idea about. Do not stay there… oh did I forgot to mention the floor our room was on there was no AC and felt hotter inside than outside

Surprised by bad reviews. Hotel for a HIE was totally fine. When you are paying about a quarter of the price than within Newport. this place was perfectly fine.

What you would expect frpm a good Holiday inn. Clean facilities, good sized rooms, internet, courteous and professional staff. Plus gym, pool and jacuzzi.

A basic Holiday Inn. Beds are OK. Rooms are clean. There is a pool and small workout room. Breakfast was good. 5 minutes from Newport. Nothing spectacular but would stay again. wiFi was free but was very difficult to log on to and difficult to keep the signal.

Front desk person was very rude. The worst Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at.

Terrible experience. Long wait to check-​in after the check-​in time, pool was murky, staff was hard to locate, not enough towels, cockroaches on first floor. Ew! The only good thing about this place is the Chili’s restaurant next door.

This is probably one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. If not THE worst.
My friends and I were in Newport this past labor day weekend for our friend’s wedding. We arrived on Friday, went to the rehersal and had lunch, we walked around Newport for a while to kill time before our 3pm check in. At two we arrived and just wanted to check out the pool while we waited…(first fail) The pool was murky, as in poorly cleaned, the complementary towels were more like hand towels. At exactly 3pm we dried off, and went to the desk to check in. We were told our room wasnt ready yet, that the manager was checking it. I asked how long this would take, we were told «um a little while»…ONE hour later after going back and forth with the desk person, we were finally checked in our room. The worst part was that the rest of the bridal party arrived at 4pm and were told the same thing, that the room wasn’t ready. They were not checked in until 5pm! I don’t understand how a hotel in Newport, RI on one of their busiest weekends lacks so much management to the point where guests aren’t being checked in until 2−3hrs AFTER check in time. Whats worse is that we were told check out was going to be 10am not the usual 11am and that we would not receive extra time for the late check in. We get to our rooms, and no towels, none.anywhere. THe other bridal party had no towels and no shower curtain. We were told they ran out of towels and would be bringing them as soon as they were ready.
Terrible customer service, poor management, over priced for the anemeties, gross pool, do not stay here.

I think I was expecting a hole in the wall hotel, so the Holiday Inn Express really impressed me.
Staff was incredibly friendly, free wi-​fi, cable, average sized rooms with your typical size bathroom (with lots of bathroom counter space for me to spread my things around!), and typical hotel beds.
They had a work out center, a pool, free coffee, tea, oatmeal at all times of the day, and I was most impressed with their breakfast. I have been to many hotels where all they have are cheerios and kelloggs flakes and an assortment of fruit (oranges, apples, bananas), and this is what I expected. However, the Holiday Inn Express had biscuits and gravy, sausages, eggs, lots of different juices, muffins, bagels, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, 5 different types of cereal, peanut butter, and probably more. I am a HUGE breakfast person and this was quite the surprise. So thanks to their wonderful breakfast selection, Holiday Inn Express gets more stars. Bravo.
