Hampton Inn and Suites

My family and I came to Middletown at that end of September for my sisters graduation from officer development school for the Navy in Newport. We’re the kind of family that wouldn’t be caught dead in a motel 6 (or similar) and our expectations for hotels are pretty high. This hotel is clean, professional and has excellent customer service. We’re from California so traveling to the east coast was kind of a culture shock… but the hotel staff were kind and courteous. They gave recommendations and directions whenever needed! We were surprised to find out they don’t sell alcohol after 10:00 «on the island» but they pointed us in the right direction for some amazing beers. The cost is reasonable and the complimentary breakfast is amazing! Definitely a great place to stay in town. Also only about a 10 minute drive to «downtown» Newport with a ton of restaurants (and the mansions!)

This was my 1^st stay at a Hampton Inn & Suites. I chose this hotel for its proximity to Newport (without the Newport prices). It was in an easy to find location, with ample safe parking and very close to Newport, the Cliff Walk and all of that.
The staff was super friendly — they allowed for early check-​in, went over everything with us, and generally made the stay more pleasant. The room was clean, and the bedding was incredibly fresh. The breakfast was great — having had both the hot breakfast and the to-​go breakfast, I was more than satisfied with both during my stay. I slept like a baby here, and would definitely stay here again.

This is an excellent choice if you are visiting Newport, since it is more reasonably priced than the hotels in the hustle and bustle of the tourist area, but it’s just a short drive away. This Hampton Inn gets top marks for the chain’s usual amenities, with clean, comfortable rooms that featured a fridge and microwave, a well-​maintained breakfast area, and a hot tub in the pool area, plus freshly baked cookies at the front desk and a big bowl of apples in the lobby every day. We occasionally heard some noise from the hallway and neighboring rooms, but overall our room was fairly quiet. The front desk staff was attentive, and helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations.

This place always allows for a great stay. Hampton inn is only 15 minutes away from all of the landmarks so it’s a great place to stay. It’s always clean, the front desk is always so accommodating and there is a fresh plate of cookies awaiting your arrival. The only things that I can’t comment on is the pool because I haven’t been there. For the price Hampton inn is a great place to stay during your stay in Newport.

My boyfriend and i came to this area for a minivacation. We were able to use my HH points which made the trip worth it. The room was average, two queens bed and a bathroom. It came with a microwave and fridge which was convenient especially if you are with a larger group. The breakfast was tasty, limited options but it was good. The AC was loud and would get progressively louder throughout the night. We were woken in the middle of the night by a crying baby which was unfortunate. But overall, it was a decent stay with a good location.

This is a great hotel to stop at for a 2-​day trip to Newport.
It is located only a short drive away from the cliff walk, mansions and Tennis HOF. There are several restaurants in the walking distance of the hotel (i.e. Applebees, IHOP), but the you the fancier dining on the Newport waterfront is only 5 minutes away by car. We enjoyed complementary coffee throughout the day and free breakfast, although there was nothing special about it — typical eggs, waffles, and cereal. WiFi internet and parking are also free.
Beds were clean, with average mattresses and pillows, which are sufficient for a comfortable sleep. I think that can be improved, and the beds can be nicer.
We traveled with a 10-​month old, and the hotel provided a crib, which actually was a fold-​out playpen that performed crib functions well enough for a short stay.
This is an affordable and comfortable hotel to spend a night around Newport.

New, clean, comfortable, great staff! Prices are great — half of what the hotels closer to the water are going for. The bedding is so comfortable and fluffy. I love that they clean the white cotton comforter for each new guest! The breakfast was okay — its free. You may want to stay on the back side of the hotel — when the winds pick up and you are located at the front of the hotel — it sounds like a wind tunnel.

I wasn’t expecting much but I was suprised by the space with great flow. Our Room had Queen sized Beds, amazing Cable friendly programming the best I’ve seen recently from our Hampton Inn visits recently. Great locale with casual dining (Applebee’s), Gas Station, Shopping Plaza (CVS Pharmacy) and lots more around the corner from our Hotel. This Hotel is 30 minutes away from Univ. Of Rhode Island and highly recommend booking your Hotel stay here.

Nice hotel for the money, the fresh made waffles were delicious.
The service was kind and very helpful.
It is a budget friendly hotel.
But be aware a king suite is not actually a suite it’s a small hotel room with a pull out sofa.
As long as your aware if that you won’t be disappointed.

The hotel puts out free cookies for the guests in the afternoon and they keep them coming! There is also free coffee (regular, robust and decaf) and hot water with at least 10 different teas/​hot chocolates to choose from.
However, it would be nice if the coffee were HOT! I complained and the gal said «we are brewing more». I said «you should have thought of that 20 minutes ago».
Anyway, the complimentary breakfast was good and included a variety of hot and cold foods which were different each day. Some foods include eggs, french toast sticks, bagels, make your own waffle, bacon, sausage, different types of cereals, oatmeals and yogurt and fresh fruit! A shuttle is offered every half hour and drops you off at Bowen’s Wharf (the heart of downtown Newport) and is only $ 3 per person round trip! However, the hours it runs are a bit weird. Book early as there is limited seating on the shuttle. Free parking available to hotel guests.
The room was very clean and included a pretty big fridge (at least 2 feet tall) which is a huge plus for me because I like to keep my fridge stocked with healthy fruit and drinks when I’m away. The beds and pillows were both very comfortable.
We would sty here again. Hopefully the front desk staff has had a lesson in the meantime that if it were not for customers, they would not have a job. That means «do not act like are disturbing you when we have a front desk question»!!! incredible!

I was in town for a wedding weekend and booked the Hampton Inn and Suites in Middletown because their prices were cheaper than staying in Newport. Not being from the area I thought I would have to travel much father to get to downtown Newport from the hotel but I was pleasantly surprised how close the hotel was to downtown Newport — only about 2 miles!
From the moment I stepped foot in the hotel I was greeted with friendly and super helpful employees. They were very eager to answer any questions I had! Staff would pass me in the lobby or hallways always with a smile and a compliment :)

I have stayed at this hotel 4 times and have always had a great experience. I likely would give 3 – 4 stars based on previous stays. However, my husband and I stayed here this past weekend and it was a disappointment. We live an hour and a half from Newport and decided last minute to head there for the day. We had our 11 month old with us and as the day got later we realized it would be best to stay in town. Since I had stayed here before we went ahead and called to book a room.
First I will say that everyone was very nice and professional which we appreciated. The hotel was clean and we had no issues with our reservation. however, when we got to our room we were immediately taken by the heavy smell of smoke. I called the front desk to see if I had remembered to reserve a non-​smoking room and we were assured that it was non-​smoking. I’m asthmatic and we had our 11 month old with us. It was just plain disgusting and I couldn’t relax or enjoy myself with that nasty smell. We are not smokers and would expect a clean room to mean physically but also air quality. We called the front desk and they told us they were sold out and there were no other rooms to move to. They called back and offered an air purifier which would take close to an hour and we could not be in the room. It was already late and our son was sleeping at that point. They also offered another air machine that would not clean the air but would basically make the room smell like cinnamon to overpower the smoke smell.
Although I appreciated the efforts, to me the room should not have smelled in the first place. When they clean the rooms they should have smelled it and done something about it then… not when guests are already checked in.
We got home today and all our clothes smelled like smoke. I am very disappointed with our stay.

I wholly concur with T.W.‘s review. We stayed here 3 nights (22 – 25 Aug) and really enjoyed everything about our stay. Great location just north of Newport and near to Naval Station Newport.
The front desk staff was always helpful and willing to assist us with our touristy questions. Comfortable beds and a clean room — never had any issues with maid service.
The lobby is a great meeting area and accommodates the breakfast chaos well so that no one is waiting for a table, nor is there a traffic jam trying to get the hot items. Our group met there in the evening and was allowed to relax with our own wine and cheese at the tables; nice place to unwind socially at night!

My mother has been obsessed with Hampton Inn Hotels since one in Virginia served biscuits and gravy for breakfast (sadly none at this location). Since then we often stayed at Hampton Inn Hotels if one is offered where we are vacationing. I will say that this location was clean and staff was friendly/​helpful. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable.
If you are visiting Newport, RI — this hotel is a good deal. Its less than 10 minutes from downtown Newport and much more of a bargain then the hotel/​bed and breakfast options in Newport.
Pluses: Continental breakfast, with some warm food. Greet Belgium waffle, awful fake scrambled eggs. Good location to downtown Newport and restaurants.
Drawbacks: The «business center» is 2 computers in basically a closet. You can barely fit 2 people in there. Bring your laptop.

Great location — just beyond the hype and cost of Newport. Free breakfast was acceptable but nothing amazing. It did the job though!

Michael at the front desk was very accommodating, especially after a 10 hour drive from Virginia and it being 3:30 in the morning. He set me with up a great room at a great price.

AMAZING! We had an «incident» with some rowdy friends and Mike was so professional and friendly. He handled the situation with class and dignity. Mike is awesome!
I have stayed at hundreds of hotels and never have I received customer service as wonderful as this hotel. Great place, good price… will return.

Nice clean rooms, free breakfast, very friendly staff. Easy to find and a quick drive to downtown Newport. Free parking too. Nothing fancy, but does the trick. Would stay again.

IF you get a good rate here, it’s a good spot for visiting Newport. The hotel itself is a nicer/​glammed up Hampton Inn. Very clean and well maintained, it’s about a 15 minute drive to downtown Newport. Pros about the place is the free breakfast, clean room with pleasant décor and free parking (believe me, this is good because they’ll charge you for parking at hotels closer to Newport).
Only bad thing is that I couldn’t check in when I arrived at 11 AM. They got a room ready for me at 1.30PM, so keep in mind that this place is pretty busy and folks don’t usually end up checking out until later.
