I love this store!!! Its my go to place for any gifting occasion and the dresses and jewelry are my favorite in all of Mill Valley. The whole shop has a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere, and there is always something new and exotic to see. I always get compliments on any Monarch item I happen to be wearing, and all my purchases there have proven to be very high quality and durable. This store is the best!

This purely a customer service rating. The store itself is lovely, but the cashierist was probably one of the most rude and disrespectful people I have ever met. I walked in to buy some henna, and set it on the counter. I have been coming to monarch ever since I moved to mill valley, which was about 9 years ago. In those nine years of coming there I have never have had the opportunity of meeting such an unpleasant person. As I set the henna down, she looked at me. She gave me the coldest, most uncomfortable look. It wasn’t just once, but several times. I was about to head to a bohemian festival in Nevada, and dressed accordingly. This cashierest apparently did not like my attire, and she made it very clear. Then after the cold looks, she proceeded to ask me things like my age, where I’m from, and was subtly insulting about how there was designs on my face, and my bohiemian clothing. Her exact words were“live it up” in a mocking and distasteful tone. What is that even supposed to mean? Did she really have to go out of her way to straight up insult me about the way I like to dress and do my makeup? I can deal with confrontation about things that should actually matter, and if my attire was insulting to others or cultural appropriation, but it wasn’t. I have had other lovely encounters with the other cashierest in the shop, but I found this incredibly offensive and rude. This young woman has officially damaged how I look what I once found as a lovely store, but now I find it to be an unwelcoming and judging environment that I would not like to voluntarily be in. I will continue to come to the store, but I will not go on the day on which I encountered this girl, which was on Sunday. I hope someone addresses this and makes it clear to this girl that’s what goes around comes around, and that she should learn to be kind and accepting of other people and cultures. Mind you I didn’t have a Unilocal account before this review, but this employee aggravated me enough to go out of my way to create one so it could be known to the manager the poor custumer service that is being held at their store.

This is my favorite place for a meaningful gift. The sisters that own it are kind and informative. The quality is high and the style is very Narin.

If you love high end, out of the ordinary jewelry, clothing, furniture, diety statues(and so much more!) be sure to stop by Monarch the next time you are in Mill Valley. It’s a small store filled with items artfully displayed, that will keep you browsing, buying and coming back for more. Monarch is conveniently next door to the movie theater, so if you are going out to see a movie, go early to spend some quality time in Monarch.

Really overpriced. Went on a recommendation, bought some mala beads, and found the very same ones at an pretty upscale yoga studio for much less, and online for half what I paid. Won’t be going to Monarch imports again. It’s an Indian imports store with cheap stuff sold at Mill Valley boutique prices. Forget it

Love this place– it is the Hippy Store. I got some awesome hanging butterflies here. They also have cool incense burners and cards and other cool stuff for your inner hippy needs.

Lovely selection, lack of responsibility in standing behind a product. I shopped here for years — for gifts, for myself — and always left with wonderful finds. When a piece of semi-precious jewelry broke after two wearrings, I asked the owner for her help with a seemingly pretty straightforward repair. Seismic change in attitude! The owner was dismissive, unconciliatory, unwilling to make any gesture to repair the item, and apparently willing to lose a ten-year customer over it! Bummed — seems to miss the point of shopping local. Sadly, I won’t patronize a store that won’t make the slightest effort to stand behind their merch.

I love this store! I found it by accident one day when the tea I was drinking as I walked in Mill Valley spilled all over my shirt… and I happened to spy a rack of gorgeous cotton tunics of India in the window. I walked in and never stopped returning. At this point I own three of those gorgeous shirts and the owner Punam has been unfailingly helpful, gracious and kind. For those of us that love Indian products, she also has an array of fabulous small gift items, even reasonably priced little bindis, statues and stickers of the various deities like Lord Ganesh. My favorite kind of place, When I go on a bicycle voyage around Marin I always make sure to make a detour to visit.

Not to be missed on your next visit to Mill Valley. A very cute, relatively new boutique next to the movie theatre featuring gorgeous imported Indian jewlelry, statues, silk handbags, shawls, etc etc. Furniture pieces, too! Worth a look — well presented, unique stuff and the staff are very sweet. Right next to the movie theatre!
