Q Indoor Air

Oh boy, where to start. My experience with Q Indoor Air started back in December when I found out that I am highly allergic to mold and mildew. Called Mike’s office, got the receptionist who took my name, number and city that I live in and told me Mike would call back. Two days later I received his call and discussed my issue. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about. I couldn’t schedule a Healthy Home Inspection as I was going out of town for 2 weeks for the Holidays but assured him that I would call back as soon as I could to test the quality of air in my home.
I called him as soon as I returned after the New Year and same situation, receptionist took my name, number and city. No call for two days so I called back and the same thing, name, number, city and Mike will call you back. At this point I am starting to get irritated at the lack of customer service by the receptionist. They were unable to get Michael on the phone, unable to schedule an appointment and unable to get me advise on what to do in the meantime.
It’s at this point that I decided to email Michael and see if perhaps he responds faster this way and surely, after another days wait, he did. Game me his direct number (415−944−0086) and asked that I call HIM! It’s ridiculous, at what point to do make the effort instead of putting it on your customer. Reluctantly, I was too impressed by his low rate ($ 200) for the healthy home inspection, I called and finally was able to get an appointment. The appointment was 3 days later and it came and left. I called Michael twice that evening to touch base and he called back the following day apologizing for mixing that Monday up with the following Monday a week later! Again, I should have taken my money elsewhere but we were able to reschedule for Thursday.
Thursday comes and Mike is on time. Takes him several minutes to get everything unpacked and he started to go through the procedure. Checking the furnace, cabinets, drawers, toilets and showers, etc. and took measurements using his devices to measure particle content in the air, relative to outside, and humidity, again relative to outside. He took a air sample that was sent off to the lab. Made some recommendations including getting an air purifier and changing out the fan in the bathroom to one with more power.
He has experience in the field so he knows what to look for, but overall, I would say that his company is a joke and his recommendations are standard for ever client he sees. From what I could tell on Google, $ 5,000 gets you the equipment you would need to compete with him and make a small fortune.
A week later the results came in for the lab for the air sample and Michael called to go over them. He started to review with me when I discovered that he had forwarded the wrong results for another person. An hour later the correct results were sent and he asked that I call HIM to discuss. Left two voicemails and never got a response. Read through the report yourself and it gives you all the information you could need, even direction on how to make sense of everything.
Overall, Michael and his receptionist at Q Indoor Air drove me crazy for over three weeks. All because of the «healthy home inspection». How much of his company is a scam? I am not exactly sure, but if I were to give any constructive feedback to Michael, it would be the following:
1. Give your team the training to discuss with customers about indoor air quality. Make them experts.
2. Allow the team answering the phone’s the ability schedule meetings for you. Google calendar is a good way to start.
3. Get a calendar so you don’t lose track of your appointments!
4. Update your information packet used to explain humidity and air quality.
5. Get a more formal invoice to customers.
6. Buy an embroidered polo to wear to meetings.
7. Don’t leave a bag of weed in your travel case for the customer to see and then explain the last meeting you had was at a legal grow operation.

Michael is fantastic! He was able to make a next-​day appointment, arrived promptly, and did a very thorough and professional inspection of my apartment. I was very happy with this service!

Thank goodness for Michael and the service he provides. My daughter was diagnosed with asthma, which didn’t sit well with me since we don’t have an asthma history in our family. Next I was told that I had contracted asthma! In the middle of adulthood! That seemed even more odd. I had Michael test our air and do a whole house inspection. We had black mold in a wall from a roof leak. Ugh — awful news. But glad to know, and are in the process of fixing things. Michael is compassionate and mellow — and also thorough. I can’t think of money better spent, as it truly effects our quality of life…

I could not have had a better experience than I did with Michael. A few years back I was noticing some black spots on a wall in our condo. Michael came in and did a really thorough evaluation. It turned out water was getting inside one of our walls due to a window not being sealed properly when it was installed — which led to the mold. After sending the mold samples to be tested, Michael indicated it was nothing serious — but I was happy I had Michael check it out and identify the cause. Michael and his team ended up replacing the window for us and it’s been perfect ever since. Big Q Indoor Air fans for sure.

I hired Michael to do a routine healthy home inspection on a rental house that my family had just moved into. I have been very impressed with his breadth and depth of knowledge as well as his obvious concern for our well-​being. He made various recommendations, which I have implemented, and did not recommend any testing or see the need for major remediation of any kind. I’m now looking at a home to purchase and I look forward to drawing on his expertise again and putting it to even better use since there’s more flexibility to modify an owned home (and protecting the house in the long run will be very important). Michael is highly professional and a lovely person to boot, someone I wholeheartedly recommend for indoor air quality help.

I am in the middle of my second indoor mold issue. This can truly be a nightmare, And it’s hard to know where to start and what advice to follow. I find Michael to be the most practical and well-​informed of the opinions I have received. There seem be many ways to view the mold issue. I find many in the profession at large are not necessarily versed in what a major health issue this can be, Michael gets right down to business with a calm and reassuring manner and gets the job done, at very reasonable cost as well, which as we all know can be a big part of the stress. I feel at this point I am learning enough that I not only can avoid mold in the future, I can also create a healthy indoor air environment that can support better health in so many ways for years to come. So much so that I almost think the mold was a godsend. Thank you Michael for all you’ve done for me.

I am a Life Optimization Consultant, I help people solve problems. Unfortunately I had moved into a home that had a fire and had been renovated and now looked beautiful, but almost immediately made me sick. After 6 months of illness, I was beyond exhausted. My doctor suggested mold testing. She was right. Finding out that you are renting a home with mold is a nightmare. Realizing that you have to move, but first clean everything you own, is quite frankly the most overwhelming task I have ever imagined. During a crisis in which you are facing illness, expenses and a physically overwhelming task, it is the ultimate blessing to have someone like Micheal come to your home and give you realistic advise. I cannot recommend him enough. He was referred to be by a trusted friend and doctor. She has recommended him consistently in the past, and he has been awesome for all of her patients. Micheal is a kind hearted and compassionate person. He has a deep well of knowledge, and hands on understanding of the challenges of mold, and can offer you information that will certainly change your life. I really appreciated his kindness, clarity and compassion during what was for us a serious crisis.

Extremely positive experience. I had Michael do mold testing, specifically because he does not have the inherent incentive to find problems (other companies that do testing as well as remediation face an inherent incentive problem: Plainly and simply, they will give you false results). As far as customer service, moreover, Michael was outstanding. He was able to do the project on rush order (extremely tight deadline involved), and really walked me through and answered my questions about what the report meant. This guy merits a big 5 stars as far as I’m concerned.

A business owners biggest nightmare — I saw black dots appear on my wood work at the office. I am in health care so the thought of mold really did not appeal to me. I hired Michael and he walked me through the process, took samples and had it analyzed. Although it was mold, it was not the «bad» type. He told me exactly how to resolve the issue and everything was fine. I really appreciated how nice he is and how well-​informed he is. If I have an issue in the future, he is the first one I will call.

I hired Michael for his services after moving into an older home. He was very knowledgeable and walked me through the process every step of the way, and even provided reading material, as well as answered every one of my questions. He even got me the results on the same day! He was not only personable, but had reasonable prices as well. Q Indoor Air will be my only choice for any future home inspections!

Michael is one of the few honest and trustworthy Inspectors that I trust enough to send my patients to for evaluation of their homes and businesses. I run a medical practice and I know the toxic effects of mold on health and trust Q Indoor Air as a very valuable resource for my patients. Many in this field are unscrupulous and have a very poor education in Air Quality and Construction materials/​techniques. Michael is one of the «good guys» and I couldn’t recommend him more. He helped a Non Profit group that I work with identify the cause of our water damage and showed us how to easily correct it. He also helped me recently at a home inspection to insure no potential sources of mold existed in the houses. Unlike many specialists in this field who offer testing and remediation (and therefore have an inherent conflict of interest), Michael just does the testing and can guide the remediation. 5 Stars all around.

I completely mirror all the good things that have been said about Michael and Q Indoor Air. We had recently moved into a new rental and our 2 and a half year old daughter started having some major respiratory issues. Not knowing the root cause, we contacted Michael to do a a visual inspection and take air samples. He was knowledgeable, came armed with a number of recommendations for improving air quality, and clearly cared about our situation. He was great with our little girl as well. He gave us the all-​clear, which meant we could put our minds at ease about the air quality inside the house and focus on other things instead. Would recommend Michael to anyone looking for a similar service.

Michael is a life savor! I called him with an urgent need for mold inspection on a retail space as i was about to sign a lease and wanted To make sure the space was clean. I told him I needed to get the results the next day. He then offered to drive the samples down to San Bruno and guaranteed I would get the results the next day. He gave me the results and confirmed the space was clean. He took the worry away from me and I highly recommend him. Great guy, wonderful customer service and affordable. The best!!!

Michael is amazing! First let me say that he runs his business with values– He is very honest and carries with him a sense of deep integrity, He not only is a mold inspector– but his 25 years as a building contractor helps him be an excellent detective for your house. Our neighbor told us the prior owner covered up mold– we were a little freaked out so we called a mold remediation company (Environmental Services) They came out and found outrageous amounts of mold in the wall. It was my doctor and realtor who said get a second opinion. So my doctor gave me Michael’s contact and it was the best thing we could have done. We soon found out after he retested– that Environmental Services took the air and wall samples improperly. They did this to jack up the amount of mold spores and get the remediation job. — and the thousands of dollars that comes with it. They prey on people’s anxieties and fears. Michael came in with 25 years of knowledge– and a rational approach. He confirmed that our house was clean and recommended many other things that we could do to improve the air quality. He is keen and sharp like a a great detective. He has seen it all — he has solved hard cases where other mold inspectors could not find the spores. But also he can let you know with great confidence that you are safe in your house. What we learned is NEVER have a remediation company take your samples and always get a second third party opinion. Finally, he runs his business with the attitude of actually wanting to help people live the healthiest lives they can. He rocks!!!

I was a little worried at first about choosing a service with so few reviews. But let me tell you, you don’t need to worry. Mike, the owner, not only walked us through every step of the process and brought us information packets on mold but he even called me back multiple times after the job was complete to answer questions I had. I mean, even down to calling me back to give me advice while I was at Home Depot purchasing an air filter. He was amazing. I just can’t say enough about him. If you’re worried about finding a good company, look no further because Q Indoor Air not only does the job well but cares for its customers. Thanks so much Mike!

We hired Q Indoor Air to do testing on our office building and our residence. Q Indoor Air did what they call a «healthy homes inspection». We found it to be very educational and helpful in settling our fears about potential mold issues. When all was done they gave our office building and home a clear bill of health. Q Indoor Air was professional, courteous and very knowledgeable about this field. It was definitely money well spent and we have recommended Q Indoor Air to our friends and family.

I recently hired Michael to do a mold test on a home I was in contract to purchase. Michael did an incredibly thorough job of testing the home for mold, including doing both air and swab samples. When the tests came back positive for mold, the sellers of the home hired a mold remediation company to eradicate the toxic mold. Michael then came back to do further tests and he found slight traces of more mold in the air ducts. The remediation company came back to do more work and then Michael came back a third time to run a final test which came up clean.
Throughout the entire process I was extremely impressed with Michael’s professionalism, communication, and willingness to explain every detail. I would definitely hire Michael again and will likely bring him back in 6 – 12 months to do another test just to make sure all is still clear.

In addition to the professionalism and expertise aptly described by these reviewers, I must mention Michael’s kindness and calm in handling difficult situations. Michael arrived at our home with the right type of enthusiasm and confidence, and from the first few minutes of meeting him, we knew we were in good hands! That was a year ago! I have had a lot of time to think about his service and character, and I still feel the same level of appreciation!

Our family had been having a terrible time with allergies and frequent colds and suspected that mold in our drafty old home might have been the culprit. How do we find out? Enter Michael Quijas of Q Indoor Air to come and evaluate our living space. The results of his 75 point test opened up a whole new impression of our home. For example: Michael was able to find out with one of his gadgets that at one time there was an additional window, now covered up with lathe and plaster that had not been properly insulated, creating a cold spot in the living room and creating moisture and (you guessed it) mold. Michael also explained that excess humidity can attract many other problems in the home, from dust mites to bone chilling cold. His tips for mitigating these problems were straightforward and surprisingly low cost. I feel more empowered in our home and understand the reasons for how the structure, air flow and even the lack of plants can effect our indoor air quality. We were delighted to work with Michael Quijas and will certainly contact him again when we move to our next home to help us create a healthier home.

We used Q Indoor Air because of allergy problems. We thought we had done all the things necessary to minimize allergens related to dust (mattress and pillow covers, no wall-​to-​wall carpeting, etc), yet I was still having allergic reactions.
Mike came in and did a full home assessment. He pointed out sources of dust that we hadn’t noticed. He also pointed out mold and potential carbon monoxide and asbestos dangers that we hadn’t been aware of.
We were very grateful for the assessment. Mike’s costs were very reasonable. He’s also a very friendly guy, with no pressuring or sales pitch stuff to have to deal with. I highly recommend him.
