Frozo’s Frozen Yogurt

Sadly, it appears the days of maintaining my slim and trim physique are soon going to come to a crashing halt. It was a typical weekday lunch hour, and where was I to head to? Why… Frozo’s, of course!
Now, over the past year and a half that I’ve been working near this Asian food mecca known as Dixon Landing, I have managed to be a good little boy, avoiding the temptations of the Chinese rice plates and Korean BBQ, not to mention the taquerias, and made Frozo’s my go to spot. With my filled out stamp card in tow, I skipped on down to the front door… only to be greeted with this Clark Griswold moment (

As sad as I am to see the passing of Frozo’s, I can’t say that I’m surprised. Each and every time I went, I was pretty much the only one there. Of course, I do have other options in the area, namely Blush (
) and Yogurtland (
), but they are much farther away, and not within walking distance. Time to say good bye to the six paq…

Not all Fro-​yo places are created equally. This one focus’ on their toppings and doesn’t pay much attention to the quality of their yogurt. I don’t do toppings so the assortment didn’t impress me. The yogurt flavors were a little weak and was partially melted as it came out of the machines. The peanut butter was bitter, the red velvet was just gross and the chocolate was barely chocolate, this is barely Hometown Buffet quality.
The guy working was friendly and the seating area is comfortable. Overall, a pleasant enough spot to grab a treat.

If endorphins are released after consuming food, the only thing released when I ate Frozo’s yogurt is anger. almost 40 cents per oz for yogurt that tastes like whipped cream mixed with a bit of non-​frozen yogurt. The yogurt wasn’t even frozen, it was watery and came out so quickly that I got more than I wanted. It was a bit annoying that Frozo’s doesn’t let you get your own samples! Everywhere else trusts its customers! The Red Velvet yogurt tasted like chocolate with tons of red food coloring. The Original tart was the worst. I thought it was supposed to be ICY? Their yogurts weren’t even very cold.
Worst of all the, their fruit looked like it had been sitting out for a long time. They were jelly-​like and weren’t very solid. The mangoes weren’t ripe nor sweet. I guess since they’ve switched owners the new owner didn’t get the old recipe. I guess I’ll have to go to the Frozo’s in Santa Clara.

Back for more Frozo’s Frozen Yogurt. It’s a few doors away from New Hwong Kok & I had a coupon so we went.
Sign said opened at 12noon, but the guy was early and waved us inside.
Ask the guy for samples — he came out & served me 2 samples. I got tart original & cookies & crème. I liked them both.
I made up a cup w/​strawberry, raspberry I think, & cookies & crème. M. got strawberry. Filled up w/​mochi & strawberries & some candy. Bring to cashier who weighs each cup. Our total was $ 5 something. Tasted just ok to me.
It’s .39c an ounce and the cup by itself weighs 0.2 oz. I think mind cost a bit over $ 3.
Ask for coupons — he gave us more for next time. Also, got a card to get sampled. After buying 10 cups (6oz or more), get 1 FREE (6oz cup).
Credit cards accepted.

Not bad. They have three machines, with three spouts each, the middle spout providing the swirl option. Flavors included country vanilla, chocolate, plain tart (icy), original tart (creamy), cookies and cream, red velvet, strawberry, and kiwi strawberry.
I sampled the original tart, which had great creaminess, but didn’t fare too well in taste. It had a tartness, but there wasn’t much sweetness to it… making it taste more like sour cream. It also made for a weird mouth feel, because it had a slight fizziness. The lone worker didn’t stick around for me to ask for another sample, so I blindly went with a cup of strawberry and a little bit of vanilla. Surprisingly, these flavors were creamy and tasty, albeit rather boring.
Having went with safe, boring flavors, I had more fun with my toppings than usual. The topping selection is pretty impressive, consisting of all kinds of dessert sauces/​syrups, candies, nuts, cereal, and fruit among other things. I topped my yogurt with chocolate fudge, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Rice Krispies Treats, graham cracker, mochi, and cheesecake bits.
My creation costs me three bucks and some change, which isn’t bad for the amount I got, but at $.39/​oz, the yogurt here is a little more expensive than I’m used to. This isn’t cheap, runny froyo though, so the price is fair in my opinion.
Overall, a 3. I wasn’t as amazed with the flavors as I was the creaminess and wide topping selection, but they rotate regularly anyway. Would I come back? Maybe if I’m in the area, but I wouldn’t venture out here.

FINALLY… a frozen yogurt place in Milpitas!!! I was on a mission to be the first few to try this place out on grand opening day.
This place only had four different flavors but a ton of nuts and other toppings (probably to entice customers to make their cup weigh more). I got the original tart and orange.
It was GROSSSSSS. Taste like cough medicine. I literally had two bites and threw all of it away. I looked at my friend and guess what. we drove all the way to Cupertino and got Yogurtland to compensate for this FALSE HOPE.

If it were not for my crazy Frozo friend who came with me… I would have never found this place!
I love their location in Santa Clara and the nice thing about this place is that it’s not overcrowded with college kids. We came here on a Friday night at about 9pm and it was dead!
Still great yogurt and great toppings… I’d come back if I was in the area!

What sets this Frozen Yogurt place apart from the other ones is that you get to choose whatever the hell you want on your frozen yogurt. From fruits, to cereals, to candies. They charge you based on weight, though, so be careful as to how much you put on yours.
Lotas teeny boppers here, though. So be wary if you are an age snob.

Great self-​service desert-​place!
It is simple and quick!
I came here on a Saturday night. There were lots of people (kids) but the way this place is setup things move quickly.
Grab a cup and fill’er up! Just be careful because these are deep and you can easily drop $ 15 if you get carried away.

Then you decide which toppings you want. Once you are satisfied just walk up to the register and pay.

Back when I wasn’t on my diet, I would come to this place at least twice a week. But after my new year’s resolution to eat a little better, I probably won’t be back here in awhile. Just think of this place as like a salad bar but instead of salad stuff, you find things you would top delicious yogurt with.
The flavors change up I think monthly and you can find yummy flavors like peanut butter supreme or the original tart yogurt which combines well with mochi balls and very tart fruits like strawberry and razzberry.
This place has almost every topping imaginable, including fresh fruits and delectable sauces like condensed milk. They charge by the ounce which is cool by my book because you can have a little or the Van The Man sized to which I need 2 of their large cups ;)
Overall, I recommend this place and they also have a buy 10, get one free card so make sure you pick one of those up if you’re a fan of Frozo because you will be hooked after the first one.
Van The Man Must Try: Super Chocolate with every nut they have and then drizzle a little condensed milk

Upon arriving, my first thought was, «It’s like a mini Frozo’s!»
It’s definitely smaller than the Santa Clara location, and there are less toppings. Although, there weren’t really any that I missed.
The yogurt tasted the same to me, and the selection of toppings was definitely sufficient.
My major complaint was the music. Actually the volume of the music was what my problem with it was.
Whenever my friends and I go for yogurt, we tend to hang out and chat a bit. Even if we don’t stay that long, we like to actually be able to hear each other speak. The volume of the music in this location made conversation a bit challenging.
Since the other Frozo’s is much closer to my house, I’ll be frequenting that one.
Although, to be fair, the only time I’d be coming back here is when I’m hanging with friends in the area, and let’s be honest, we need our Frozo’s!

Once again I have to say that I am a fan of «non confrontational» yogurt spots and this one is just that!
I love how I have the freedom to chose what I want to make and how much toppings to put and all that. Last night I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go chocolately or fruity — so I went both ways. Half passion fruit with mochi and mango and half irish mint with oreo cookies. YUM.
I was pretty surprised how much it cost me. I paid for 2 (my bfs’ and mine). In my eyes, his looked «heavy» so I thought for sure it would be like $ 4.50 for his alone. The two cost me $ 6.15. WTH! That’s pretty good.
In fact, there was pretty big crowd of us in there last night — probably like 13 of us and we all agreed the pricing was pretty good. Not that many tables in there but it was able to accomodate us.
oh, the two ladies working last night were friendly and helpful. :)
Also, I like how they have signs that say «creamy or icy» on the machines.
OH! Temperature in there was very comfortable. For some reason I thought I’d be freezing but they had the heater going. YEAH. Thank you!

I’ve been to the Santa Clara Frozo’s multiple times, so was really excited to learn that this one was nearby. I really wanted to like it, but I’m sorry to say that I like the Santa Clara location better.
Before going, my S.O. and I looked at this entry on Unilocal to see what the hours were, and Sunday was missing. It wasn’t there. At all. So he called them to see if they were open, and they said they were until 11:00. Once I got there, I told them I was glad they were open and that they needed to change the hours on Unilocal so people knew they were open on Sunday.
After I got my yogurt (which I’ll talk about in a minute), he told me that he spoke to the owner who said that Sunday has always been on the entry. I pulled out my iPhone to check, and, sure enough, Sunday was there. When I got home, I looked at the entry that was still open on my computer, and Sunday was missing. I reloaded the page, and Sunday appeared. I don’t understand why they would tell me it’s there when it wasn’t. For that reason, this location loses 1 star.
As for the yogurt and general atmosphere: I ended up getting a mix of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla, since their special flavor peanut butter didn’t taste like peanut butter at all. To me, it was diluted, and if someone didn’t put the label «peanut butter» on the sign, I never would have known what flavor I was eating. I know the flavors at the Santa Clara location tend to be stronger, so I was surprised not to be overwhelmed with peanut butter goodness on tasting this one.
The reason why I took off another star is because there weren’t enough tables, but there was a huge floor space. Also, luckily we were about to leave anyway when some loud music started blaring over the speakers. That just wasn’t for me.
If my Frozo craving takes over, I would probably return to this location, especially since it’s close to where I live. However, I’ll probably stick to the one in Santa Clara.

«Ewww whats wrong with mine?» was the first thing that popped out of my mouth after my initial bite. It tasted like NOTHING. And I don’t fill up with all that sweet sugary toppings so mine tasted like plain bland cold nothing. No flavor, no sweetness, no tartiness.
I’ve discoverd the Frozo Santa Clara (or is it San Jose?) location a year or so ago after all these wanna bes started popping up in the bay area and that location was my favorite until a place local to me that tastes pretty decent opened up some months back. I was happy they were opening this location (a mile or so away from me) and I finally got to try it the other night and it was plain nasty.
The other Frozo never disappointed so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming that this was a one-​off mistake bad yogurt blend.

Eating at New Hwong Kok, my mind was so consumed at trying to eat those giant dim-​sum that I had forgotten to get something to drink. What to do? How about heading over to Frozo’s just a few stores down to get hydrated?
I was suprised to see so many choices for add-​ons. From graham cracker crumbs to coconut, from mochi to kiwi, there is definitely a topping for everyone here. I found the yogurt here to be really creamy in texture, almost like it was ice cream. I really enjoyed it and I came up with a concoction of raspberry and strawberry yogurt with a dusting of cookie crumbs and piling on fruits like strawberries, pineapples, kiwis, and peaches. Even had to top it off with a segment of mandarin orange.
I throughly enjoyed my fro-​yo treat and will come here for any fro-​yo cravings. I’ve found a fro-​yo recipe I like so I hope they don’t change the flavors around too much. I would hate to end up with something like a coffee-​mango-​vanilla mish mash of flavors.

Self serve yogurt is the best! You get to take your pick of 6 different flavors, which do change, I dunno how frequently, and control how much you want. I also like that they have hugeass cups so you don’t have to worry about your toppings spilling over later.
There’s hellaaa toppings to pick from, but be careful of getting too greedy b/​c it might taste weird if you combine way too many toppings. Original tart yogurt with chocolate, cookies, fruit, gummy bears, cereal, and cheesecake do not mix. Don’t get M&M’s either if you don’t want your yogurt looking like ROYGBV.
In conclusion, you definitely get what you pay for since you pay by the ounce. One warning though, this is a dessert, not some kinda miracle worker. You will get fat from eating too much of it.

Conclusion:
Willow Glen doesn’t have as many flavors but their froyo tastes better.
Swirls chocolate froyo and tart original reigns supreme.
Penguin froyo is still my fave.

Serious Concerns:
I’m a girl allergic to the world. Survived Anaphylactic Shock twice. In my Kate Spade– you will find two Epi-​Pens and Benedryl dissolve strips. When ever I eat out I’m always careful of my food allergies.
The Problem:
When the Frozo’s Staff came back with an answer on the ingredients they said the ingredient listing only said: Hawaiian Delight. So it didn’t indicate the ingredients other than the name– so I had to skip it.
Overall, the place is clean and the staff is extremely friendly. I had a mixture of the chocolate & vanilla custard fro-​yo. The toppings bar was endless. I purchased fro-​yo for my BFF & I and without the Unilocal Discount it would have come out to $ 10.00. I don’t mind paying for good quality items but this was frozen yogurt was lacking in taste and quality. After a couple of bites I realized how bad the frozen yogurt tasted, so I tossed it because it was that bad.
My favorite are:
1. Café Delatti
2. Red Mango
3. Yoswirl
I didn’t like Fraiche in Palo Alto but I found it palatable enough to finish (I’m a fan of Valrhona and the way they use Valrhona didn’t do it justice, but props to their delish mochi!).

We sampled each of the flavors and I opted for Original Creamy Tart and Vanilla.
I liked the organized toppings bar. It resembled Sweet Factory and Hometown Buffet! =P
The yogurt itself was aiiight.
Earlene’s top Bay Area Fro-​Yo favorite is still Blush in Dublin for its perfect tartness and YoSwirl in Fremont for their variety of flavors.

Feeling Hot Hot Hot
Yes!!! The weather is hot, my body temp is hot, and a lot of hot heads are on the road today causing accidents on the freeway.
So, today I decided to check out this place… may be it will help cool my head before I get back on the freeway again. Reviewed by my Unilocal favorites and knowing that they don’t disappoint me, so here I am.
What I didn’t know is that this place is a Self Serve Yogurt place. Well, it is my first time… I do not want to look stupid so I acted cool by scoping the place… checking where the hell is the instruction on how to do this… yay! saw it!!! Ok… get a cup, which I did… then pick flavored yogurt… Cobber recommended the blueberry one and so I did… topping??? I had a hard time deciding so I have to KEEP IT SIMPLE… got some sugar free granola and lots of fresh blueberries and then it’s weighed (39 cents per oz. is not bad at all)… total cost for me: $ 3.25
Have it to go… too many teeny boppers hanging out here today. And I have to be on the road…
The yogurt that I’ve prepared myself (wink*) tasted sooo good (Thanks Cobber)…Whoa!!! It really help me keep my «cool» on the way home. Looking at the thermometer in my car that the outside temp is 88 degrees; It feels like I am in a Winter Wonderland inside…
I wish those Guys in the vehicle next to me is having this yogurt… coz they sure look Hot!!!
